  • Ford has taken Electric Vehicles to the next level. Lets hope everyone else can keep up. The new F-150 lightning can power an average home in the USA for THREE WHOLE DAYS. The massive battery pack and electric motors are a beast off road, can tow up to 10,000lbs, while still coming home at night to keep your entire house safe from power outages. Mind blowing. Nice work Ford!

      We have to give credit to Ford. All those years of building and selling trucks does give them some idea as to what the consumer wants. At the end of the day, you still have to sell a product that is also desirable and affordable. Otherwise, it doesn't do you any good if you can only offer it to just a select portion of the market.

      Electric trucks are terrible. The battery will die sooner then later if you put it in a work truck. Pulling, payload, off road. All of that will strain the battery faster. Lose your charge quicker and the battery wont hold charge because of, the excess heating from over use and charging.

    If you had told me 5 years ago that Ford would be making such smart decisions and helping to pave the way for the future of EV, I would have laughed in your face. The smartest thing they have done was to make it just look like a traditional pickup truck. If they drop the same power plant into a Ranger Lightning, it might just outsell the Tacoma in the mid-sized category.

    Like you said, I think THIS truck is a game changer for electric vehicles! It serves an already well establish market segment, and can move many people over to electric with ease. The range, carrying capacity, and towing package are excellent. (RANGE!!!!) The fact that in addition to the large center screen (on the higher trim models), they still also kept all the physical buttons everywhere else that you'd expect is top notch understanding of their buyers! NO ONE wants to have to navigate through on-screen tabs and menus to accomplish something that used to be a no-look single button push!!! (glaring at Tesla) The front trunk storage is awesome! (I wonder if someone will make front trunk tool bins that replace bed tool boxes?) The outlets all around the vehicle, including 240v in the bed are sweet, and the ability to send power back to the home during an outage via the charging cable with some extra hardware installed in the home is a major leap forward!!! Oh, and the charging rate that this truck is capable of is incredible, and nicely future proofed since it exceeds what most charging stations currently offer. Lastly, the Ford Charge Station Pro... WOW, 80 AMPs... (needing a 100 AMP circuit from the panel) that just makes me giddy. (100 AMPs is my whole service panel currently.)

Thats also why Rivian is having hard time. As ev conversion progresses probably EV trucks are going to be split to few Ford models and Cybertuck. Love everything about this, except for 2 things that have no place in an electric vehicle.
    1) Why have a start/stop button when there is keyless operation and there is no danger from asphyxiation of a running engine’s exhaust?
    2) Why have a bulky shifter when there is no transmission? The fact that there is another button to articulate the shifter out the way highlights the silliness of that design. Just use small buttons to select P, D, N and R as well as to offer motor braking adjustment to maximize interior space and simplify the design. Each drive you spend about 1 second selecting selecting ‘gears’.

And competitively priced. well done ford.

      Why? Over 70% of the initial reservations are from non Ford or f series owner's. That means it's selling because it's a full size ev truck and NOT because it's a full size ev truck that also looks just like the current f-150s do. 🤔
      I compare this to my 2019 f-150 and wish it had more to differentiate it visually tbh. Maybe once the next gen ground up lightning coming in 2025 from the new blue oval city in TN arrives(farley claimed that one could be considered as controversial in appearance.
      That one could be the 15th new Ford I've owned since 2010 and my first ever Ford ev. I want a regular cab rwd with 250+miles of range for around 35k with a 6.5' bed please Ford. 😁

    Yes, Ford can ramp up production of the truck. But what remains to be seen for Ford, GM, Rivian, etc. Is whether they can ramp battery production. This would include raw material availability. As I understand it, Tesla has a lock on much of the raw materials and they are fully manufacturing their new cells in-house. There is a lot of catch up to do, I'm afraid.

We'll see if they hit those numbers but if they do they should be in great shape

      No. They can't. These complainace "trucks" use 1,700 chips (while a proper ICE F-150 uses about 200). Ford is already parking these fake Lightnings at the Dearborn test track because of lack of chips.

    It is cool to see this stuff coming out but there is deffinatly a lot of questions to be answered. Like what is the range when towing, or worse driving or towing in cold weather? I live in Canada and -20 c is a normal winter thing and towns 100 or more KM's apart is normal. Also where is the power to charge coming from? Solar works great in some places but not everywhere and I see substantial upgrades to our power infrastructure being required to make EV's a reality. And a 20k solar array to charge an 90k truck would buy a lot of gasoline for a regular truck. Also being capable of recycling batteries at end of life and being financially viable are two different things. I am not trying to discount the benefits or be a stick in the mud, like I said I really like the idea however I still see many questions to be really thoroughly answered still...

    • @JC-vy1bo
      @JC-vy1bo Před rokem

      I share your concerns. The range that is given by Ford is under optimum conditions with the biggest battery upgrade. The cold weather will really cut into the range without question. If you are regularly towing, usually a half ton isn't what you are going to need anyway, unless the trailer is smaller. In the long run, they are going to have to really increase the capacity of the electrical grid as well as public charging stations if these are going to be practical. That is for EVs in general. The one final red flag for this vehicle is the amount of energy it requires to charge. It is really cool that you could power your house for 3 days on a charge, but that also means it will require 3 days worth of household electricity use to charge this unit up! If you are driving a lot and require daily overnight charging, that is a lot of power! If half of the people on your block started to do this, there is no way the electrical grid could accommodate it. I don't doubt that this is an amazing machine, and would love to try one, but I just still see a lot of potential problems.

    • @DanielSmith-uy3yg
      @DanielSmith-uy3yg Před rokem

      @@JC-vy1bo Unfortunately these issues will start to become more prevalent as we move in this direction. Battery range, charging and cold weather performance will *probably* be resolved or at least vastly improved with new tech such as solid state batteries though in what timeframe is anyones guess. However infrastructure upgrades are a much more costly and long term. It is totally doable I just don't think on the timescale people are expecting (well not at any price they would be willing to pay anyway... almost anything is possible with enough money) And generating the electricity is another problem all on it's own especially when people want to get an electric car AND move to heat pumps in their house and electric hot water... That is a lot of demand especially in areas that already have problems with brown outs and black outs due to insufficient grid power available...

Pass thru window im back window , for a variety of uses , pets , long items , communication with passengers in the bed. Cool camera system for reversing , blended images . Fold down completely flat front seats cool for napping on overnight jobs/adventures/courting. Surround lights to illuminate the outside of the truck as you work around it preventing injury or the need to carry a torch. A simple thing but a super useful feature the powered tailgate up and down saving time and being convenient.

    I probably won’t buy an EV for another 5 years or so, due to living in an apartment with no chargers, but I absolutely LOVE this truck and want one so bad. The fact that this looks like a regular F150 makes it infinitely better than any other EV.
    Hopefully by the time I’m ready to buy one, they’ll figure out how to get more range and faster charging speeds for the battery. I actually have money for one saved up, and if I had a house that I could charge in my driveway, I’d no doubt have pre ordered one.
    I was gonna order a regular F150 with the hybrid engine, the max recline seats and the foldable work space to hold me over for a few years, but ford ridiculously omitted the max recline seats option for anything lower than the platinum/king ranch trims, which is trash.

    The one thing I see as an issue with the charge port location is that scrub rails will need to be, well, heavily modified or just not added. See quite a few here in Australia running Tuff 5 post bullbars and dual 3" scrub rails down the side.
    Edit: Spelling

    After watching your videos on all three trucks I have to say I like the Ford the best. The Rivian was a front runner until I saw what ford did. For me it's the fact that the Ford tier is still under the truck. That allows us to still mount a fifth wheel hook up. I also like that it looks like every other F-150. But the Final thing that made it my got to truck is that it is full size. I'm a large man and I no longer like compact vehicles.
