The first thing I noticed when he mentioned car seats
Congratulations Zack
I wonder how a disabled woman can give birth cus like she doesnt feel anything under her legs
I was trying to hold my laughter when you were changing the tire and giving the truck a whole runabout better than any commercial at the same time. Of all the people to get a flat in the middle of nowhere, you were definitely the best one to handle and capitalize on it.
They used a spike strip you can see in the video at 6:59
@@normiv you are beyond stupid lmao you can clearly see it hits the side of the rock and by the way they showed the hole was on the sidewall of the tire not the bottom are your serious?
@@normiv what you actually see is that the sidewall punctured on a rock, and that there was a piece of metal in the trail, likely the result of some previous rock crawler
@@Brisingr750 Yeah, they just happened to have the camera mounted there for the left front tyre XD But anyway, it is what it is. This video is for showing of the car, right?!
She's a beauty lad , I just wish someone would do a interview with the design team who created her. To discuss the various design decisions and rational behind decisions . They absolutely aced so many areas . Would be also cool to see what they wanted to do but decided to leave out . Ace job Rivian.
At this point I'm cheering any new competitor in the EV market. As a consumer, more competition = more products that fill different niches, as well as lower costs to all parties involved. Now if only power generation can have a similar revolution as EVs.
It did. Nuclear powerwas displacing coal and gas everywhere in the 50s 60s and 70s. Then 3 mile and chernobyl happened, one of which was a control success story and the other was a cleanup success story. Still, to calm public fears regulations were tightened to the point of stifling any further investment and increasing lead times for construction to ridiculous degrees. Some of those regulations were neccesary but in order to get back on track we need to adopt the french model of approving one plant design and buildi g it in many places.
Are you still cheering now the Chinese have entered the competition?
As a Rivian employee working where these trucks were produced, this makes me extremely happy to see this! I've also been a long time viewer of JRE so this is the best of both worlds! Glad to see our hard work paying off!
Joe rogan experience? Or Jerry rigg everything ?
Y'all should be proud of what you've built here - a truly incredible, American truck!
It's been a very long time coming! Even longer from inside the company than outside, where it's still been 3 years.
Great work, the truck is beautiful 👏🏽
Looking at this from the perspective of a truck owner, there are some things that would be real good to implement for a fleet/utility version:
1: Metal roof with optional roofrack. Glass is prone to breaking from sharp concentrated force blows from things like pipe or board ends. For applications where a skylight is useful, have a conventional design skylight option with a metal cover.
2: Air compressor fitting and controls under a panel on the outside of the bed. Same with the 120V receptacles. Where they are as is, they would be prone to damage from cargo and are inaccessible when the bed is full. Also, any truck mounted compressor should have the balls for some pneumatic tool use, even if it requires designing in some air tanks. Impact wrenches are an obvious example.
3: 8ft bed. If you have to ask why, you don't own a truck. Depending on crumple zone design/requirements, you could make up for the extra length penalty with a shortened nose or even a flat front. This would also improve front visibility without the need for a front camera. The loss of the frunk can be made up for with a bed box.
4: Integrated MPPT algorithm in the charger and PV direct charging port so it can charge direct from a string or paralleled strings of 5 to 12 or so standard 60 cell PV modules (around 150V to 370V). This would allow for charging out in the bush at a good few kW.
5: Cloth or real leather seat options. Naugacow and hot vehicle interiors in tradie conditions don't mix.
6: When and where possible, actual switches and buttons for common use things instead of a touchscreen. Likewise, actual gauges and indicator lights instead of a screen for the instrument cluster. Less glare at night and would net a small power savings, since daylight visible TFT LCDs need bright and thus power hungry backlights.
7: Since you would still have a center console LCD for things like the backup camera, integrated diagnostics and troubleshooting. Customer fleet mechanics will thank you.
Really made me grin with joy when Zack said he’ll have to use the passenger seats pretty soon❤️❤️
Yeah, will he be a dad?
God bless you Zack, congratulations!

The best thing to me is this is a perfect example of the importance of startups in an economy. The design choices, the features, etc. go far beyond the appeal of just an electric vehicle. Such an exciting time to be a fan of this industry.
Jerry: "As you can see, Tires scratch at level 7, most of the tires will scratch at level 5 or 6"
Great video!
Hey profe!
Fun fact: his name isn’t Jerry.
Lowkey, the tire changing was the best promotion video for the truck itself.
A problem that very likely could have been avoided if Rivian didn't offer (relatively low profile) 20 inch tyres as the only off-road tyre option.
Typically 17 inch tyres are the maximum you want to have on a proper off-road vehicle. 18 or more inches easily get punctured.
The alternative being 32, 35, 37 or larger inch tyres, but those are not as practical for daily use on asphalt.
@@hi9580 that's because they don't outfit terror truck based on fringe use cases. You outfit your truck based on order of importance. Off roading is something that will be done somewhere between never at the low end, and once a week at the high end. 90% of the Bell curve will be perfectly fine with 20s. The people at the top 5% will put new rims and tires, regardless of whether it came with 17" or 20" wheels. The bottom 5% will buy 22-24" wheels and 30 series tires.
@@littlejackalo5326 I agree. As an alternative, you can always buy the cheapest optioned tires, and then replace them with whatever tires you like. I don't see how a bigger tyre could've whitstand that puncture?
@@hi9580 Maybe to make room for the big brakes?
@@littlejackalo5326 They still should have the option... no point buying tires you not gonna use.
Fun fact: The moment Zack pushed the key to lock unlock the Rivian and this bird sound happened... my canary just responded and started signing...🤣lol

The air compressor got me. That is so cool. So useful. Either in emergency or the fact it gives you the ability to use air tools way out in the middle of no where.
This has to be the coolest truck ive ever seen. The self lifting tire change mode, the compressor, the electrical outlets, not to mention the display plus everything else was cool as hell. Good job guys at Rivian. Big win.

Didn't he mention that months ago?

His wife is pregnant and due soon. He featured her in the recent robot vacuum cleaner video
You did miss the announcement!
It's in the robo vacuum cleaner vid.
I first heard of it on the what's inside channel, and then Zach mentioned it in his robot vacuum cleaner video.
For a moment I thought him mentioning that you can mount 3 car seats they were expecting triplets :p
I noticed this too. Congrats Zack and Cambry!
I remembered seeing the concepts for this truck a couple of years ago and I thought it was cool but I didn't know if it would ever surface. Yesterday I saw one of these at my church and was just astonished then the videos started uploading. Looks like a great truck, the coolest thing (maybe not the most important) is the gear tunnel. Great video by the way Jerry!
That was a fantastic review! It really covered everything I was interested in. Ive been waiting for this vehicle for a long time and am excited to see it roll out. Ive seen it on the road near Rivian headquarters in Irvine, CA and can’t wait for mine to be ready.
The tire change was awesome for reasons unusual. Yes it was just a regular tire change. But notice how the crew did not change the tire. JerryRigEverthing changed the tire, this shows me that the crew has confidence in the product just working as intended. They have confidence in him snooping around. And to me it shows that with these bad roads Rivian truly believes their product is great and can withstand these environments.
Interesting point. Well said.
Also the tire blowout wasn't even the car's fault, every tire has a good chance to blow when pinched that hard.
This is what sold me, and when he showed us the built in air compressor I was beyond impressed.
I was surprised that the jack and lug wrench were not electric!
Or the crew are lazy millennials that literally don't know how to change a tire.
it didn't scratch at level 6 but was able to make a hole in the tire driving at 4mph speed😋
Well it does weigh like 7500lbs.
Sir naj ano gawa mo dito !!! Hahahhaha rs!!!
I mean it’s tires were aired up all the way on a sharp rock
Lol I can hear this in his calm voice 😁
Oi, sir Naj napadaan ahh 😂
Thank you for all the videos the past few months.
Really helps with a car you can’t just go down and see.
Got invited to the R1T store last night and picked out a nice Blue
Thanks!
Having to change the tire showed a really cool segment of the vehicle. Great creativity from rivian to use that spare tire cover as a riser block
OK, really wasn't crazy about this until I saw this video. Incredible design. The interior is insanely nice. Very impressed.
Going into the woods with a 300 mile stock in the battery. Very impressed. Very smart concept🤦
Seeing you change the tyres is really interesting, something you don't often see in a lot of previews! That plastic cover to give the jack more reach is super clever!
The plastic part is not a good idea though it will be horribly scratched after the first use and that is at least what I see as the biggest downside of the Rivian.
It my has a lot of things that a good offroader hast but it also has everything in plastic, carbon fiber or otherwise very weak against scratches.
So it feels way more than a lifestyle truck for people that never drive further than the next town but always talk about what their car could do if they would go offroad.
20 year old cars have this...
@@Ismalith
I think because it's a heavy truck and everything modern is made with plastic.
Still using scissor jacks? That's were you stopped innovating and went with 100y old tech. Surely you could have done better Rivian
@@Ismalith Horribly scratched? It's a foot for a jack. Notice they didn't make it a masterpiece to look at because it's got a specific job.
Thank you for the review. Amazing job
Good overview of the R1T. I have followed Rivian since 2009 and have waited with great anticipation, like you, for the R1T. I had an 1988 4Runner, then a 2014 Taco (that once the bed is loaded along with 4 passengers, the truck exceeded the max weight), traded in for a 2017 Tundra; which I put $26K into. Yet, the Tundra is big. I just attended the Rivian 1st Mile view & ride in Sonoma CA at the Sonoma Raceway. The truck IS impressive and the 0-60 in 3 secs puts your head squarely slammed onto the headrest like a rocket. Our driver (Kabari) had the truck at 75 mph on a gravel road swerving back and forth and the R1T remained level, no significant lean. I was disappointed that staff could not answer some of my basic questions, specifically around towing, and there was more emphasis on a booth for apparel and travel bags, another for charging stations, and several trucks decked out with rack tents. I touch on this more. Meanwhile, the R1T is impressive and the styling inside was spot on. The roof, seriously, I'd be looking at stars all night. Agree with your assessment on larger than Taco, but smaller than fulls size; and a great compromise size range. Some additional features not shown in your video include; the rear seats flip up towards the driver with a nice cargo hold under the 60% seat. The middle of the 60% section of the rear seat folds down with cup holders and another compartment. The cargo pass-thru door covers pop open for small cargo items. If I recall, the R1T has 8 cameras as we toggled between front and rear during our drive; LOVE THE CAMS! The R1T system is equipped with sensors that no driving/movement occurs if a door, tailgate or hood is open. You've covered much of the other features. Now, my Rivian Staff peeve; Towing. No one could answer my questions around the Tow Assist; most new trucks have Tow Assist (set the brake type of trailer, Gain levels, etc.). The Tundra gain range is not good as it limits to 10 and should go to 12. I off-road and pull a 19' Airstream. At the showing, not booth regarding towing. No data regarding towing. No staff versed in towing. I asked, while it has Tow Assist, can we set the Gain (or modify it) on the control panel or does the R1T system auto determine based on trailer specs? For anyone not familiar with towing, when you get a new trailer, Gain allows you to ensure the towing vehicle and trailer brake evenly as a single unit. You set the Gain by driving to 30 mph while towing and hit the brakes. Once the trailer tires lock and skid, you set the Gain. For a Tacoma/Airstream, my gain was 12. My Tundra, sadly it maxes at 10 and it's not good enough. Thus, can we set the Gain. No one could answer this, let alone show me the Towing features. There was no R1T there for the ride along with a trailer attached. Further, my trailer, as my prior ones, I have a cam on the back. Not just for backing up, but active to see behind me while driving. Current cams have the old cigarette lighter type adapter you plug in and when trailer lights are on, the cam goes on. This was another question for Rivian; how will my trailer cam integrate into the Rivian dash panel? Therefore, if you have a chance to review the R1T again, be great to know more about towing. Thanks.
Once Zack completes his hummer , we want him to do this kind of offroading .
His hummer while pretty impressive does not have the horsepower and all the features that this one has. However probably it can do some light off roading.
@@its_argho Horsepower isn’t important as torque when it comes to off-roading since electric cars have instant torque I’m pretty sure he can do this kind of off-roading
This didn’t hard off-roading lol.
@@pantenegamereviewer8195 Yeah, this was very easy track work, selected by Rimac because they know it's easy. The Hummer is too wide for these tracks. You need the right vehicle for the terrain you're dealing with. Electric 4WD are not taking over everything because of range problems.
@@andoletube yeah, but range problems will be fixed soon, as this is just a _first_ generation truck

@@Random_dud31 Exactly. It's kind of why I've stopped watching videos from Influencers like JerryRig and Marques Brownlee. They aren't actually "reviewing" anything.
They were given a product to test out for free, and told what to say and what not to say. They've pretty much become salesmen at this point.

After taking such a huge gamble on "long way up" I'm super impressed by the folks at Rivian. They deserve to win big in the market.
Well it is an expensive product for a niche clientele. RIVIAN's biggest output will be their delivery vans for Amazon etc.
I'm sure the more successful they become, the sooner they'll get bought out by someone else. Ford and Amazon already own a piece of Rivian, so it's only a matter of time before they're gobbled up like all the other startups
No they don't. This will be a toy with limited range and huge charge times; it will not be a practical truck some one can use for work unless you barely go anywhere, let alone go out in the sticks where there are no fancy 40 amp chargers. Even then It takes 26 hours to charge on a 40 amp circuit. So you run out of power underestimating the loss in range in mountains and freezing weather with a load. You have to hike to a phone and try and find a tow truck that can "carry"a wide 8000 lb pickup. It can't be rope towed or pushed because that will damage the electric motors; it must be fully carried. Very handy; I will just run out and get one.
@@BlondieSuperdog damn when range goes up and charge time goes down this comment will not age well. just sounds like you hate electric vehicles
@@Cptrq not at all I hate people who try to mislead other people. No EVs live up to their mileage claims; not Tesla no one, but this is a truck; it will be needed to carry a load and tow - it will need to drive in rough terrain and in bad weather conditions all these cut deeply into battery power and reduce range. This is a very heavy truck weighing well over 7000 lbs. so to say one is doing a review and forget to mention charging times or how badly the range will be depleted in tough conditions will mislead trusting people who may buy one and find out they have a dog for their purposes. Lying by omission is still lying and I don't like liars.
What an absolutely gorgeous truck👌🏾. Thank you for such a comprehensive video. Loved it🙌🏾
Beautiful video mate! Also learned something about changing tires.
I've never been a truck guy - at all. But this is one fine vehicle I'd be happy to own: well engineered, inventive, great exterior and interior design, not too big, not too small, functional... Long time since a vehicle impressed me like that.
Great interior and exterior design? Its the ugliest fucking truck I’ve ever seen!
@@rosen0662 maybe you should stop fucking trucks then...
thats exactly why youd want to buy one, because you know nothing about actual trucks lol
@@visceraeyes525 That's why I referred to it as a 'vehicle'. I don't really care about trucks, because I'm not interested in the hauling, towing or off road capabilities (as probably many truck buyers). But as a vehicle in a 'truck' shape, it seems well made, well finished, good materials... When I compare it with the trucks I often see in reviews, on those points it stands out for me. But if you are a thorough truck user/off roader, I can image it not being exactly your cup of tea.
Guys let the guy have an opinion lol, it’s a well engineered vehicle, even if it isn’t built to be the worlds most effective truck.

As someone with a Cybertruck in reserve, I have to say this was rather impressive! I especially like that stowed-away full spare tire and the thoughtful amenities they put into the R1T.
Well sure, the R1T is impressive. But when you have a look at the price of the R1T, you will be "impressed" too. I believe the price of the R1T starts where the Cybertruck pricing ends. Didn't have a look at that for a long time so my memory might fail me, corrections are encouraged.

@@Robert-cu9bm that depends. Most gasoline and diesel powered vehicles see significant range penalties while towing, this is no different. The weight isn't the issue, wind and road resistance is. Man , this video review is all that RIVIAN needs to sale this Truck , so far the best ... Amazing Machine , im sold on it...Thanks.
That looks like one hell of a nice well-thought out truck.
The silence of the car is surreal. And Jerry is cracking me up "a car for mid life crisis, retirement is something that only our parents do"
That electric whine is by no means quiet 🤣
@@haydensalles - Relatively speaking.
Also from inside an electric car, the noise outside is generally going to completely drown out any electric noise.
Yes, perfect sound byte. I was out weeding the front yard by the road last spring when my new neighbor drove out of her garage, backed across the street, and pulled up next to me. Half-listening to the breeze through the trees and a bee or two wandering by, I never heard a sound until she rolled down the Prius window and yelled "HI, NEIGHBOR". Scared the =crap= out of me. Electric vehicles make almost no noise until they hit about 30mph, when the tires start their roar.
@@ljprep6250 - As electric cars become the standard, it would make living beside a busy road suddenly far more viable.
That would be one part of making cities far more liveable, too.
@@Siberius- Should start buying real estate along busy roads for bargain price now and get rich in 10 years! 😂
Have 1 pre ordered. Can't wait!
Best instructional video for changing a tire!
Rivian already proved themselves on the 'Long way up' series with Ewan Mcgregor. Worth a watch!
Congrats Jerry! You’ll be one heck of a dad. I got my first kid comming this Nov as well!
His name is Zach if not mistaken the term "Jerry rig" is a term used for diy but not in perfect way even though he doesn't half ass anything he literally goes whole ass
Beautiful video. Educative !
I’m getting one of these now, you have convinced me! I don’t car if it takes me a couple of years or more, I will have one!
Keeping the tire on the ground to break the lug nuts from their seat is the first thing my daddy taught me about changing tires. All three of us had to successfully change a tire on our own before he would even start to teach us how to drive. Looking back my father was a smart man, safely changing a tire should be the first thing anyone learns before getting behind a wheel.
same. my old man wasn't comfortable with us taking off unless we could competently drive a manual on top of that.
My dad even taught me how to ride a car like the Flintstones, with two legs on the ground running.... Yabba-Dabba-Doo!! 🤣 jk
The ONLY thing I'd say he did wrong was he loosened them too much. You break them loose then snug them back up.
Highly disagree. If you wanna do it, more power to you. But if I get a flat, I just deal with it and go to a tire shop and fix it or if my car cannot be driven, I just call a towtruck.
@@motorpolitan8884 So …I’m guessing you don’t know how to change your own oil either.
CONGRATULATIONS!! That was a great little announcement. So happy for you guys. My little girl just turned 15 months. Just a whole 'nother level of joy. The truck is pretty cool too I guess lol It would definitely be my pick for an electric vehicle. Seems very well thought out
Great review. Love the experience
The front and rear lights are stunning.
I do like the way these new companies actually make the production version look exactly like the futuristic concepts. The legacy manufacturers tease amazing looking vehicles in concept and then makes something totally different and massively compromised for the production version.
But even then, a lot of concept vehicles are super ugly imo. I think Rivian hit a really good sweet spot between "normal" looking and futuristic
@@dallenbaldwin3484 I like the cyber truck even more, can’t wait for that to come out!
Good observation. The legacy auto makers focus on millions of units (and also they're based on a platform shared with many cars!) and while optimizing for the best manufacturing process, some of the concept designs can't make it.
It would be interesting to see the future of these new companies, innovating in the manufacturing space.
Fore sure. This thing looks wild good!
@@noahderrington5156 Prepare for disappointment. The concept truck they showed off isn't even remotely street legal, so there will have to be major changes for the final version.
The tire change has lead me to need this truck. The weight dispersion jack block/ tire retainer, the air compressor, the inverter, the change tire mode, all of it leads to the coolest truck ever.
them tyres dont have thick tread so did well against them rocks
Most sidewalls don't
Loved this review bro
Very impressed and innovative; Great job fellows'
16:50 Congratulations Jerry! .. and .. welcome to the Dad club!
Hey Zack congrats man 👍🏽
This video has raised the expectations for Jerry's Electric Humvee offroad test!
love the vid jerry!
Brilliant, I would say it’s the best truck I have seen and the usability is outstanding.
Having to change the tire made it all the more real…a lovely coincidence for this review
"all we hear is nature and the rocks under our tires (constant high pitched squeal in background)" hahah. My old man has one of these on order, looking forward to giving it a try
As you get older, you lose the ability to hear high pitched noises. So for you and me we can hear it but he probably can't.
I couldn’t watch more than a few minutes because it got so loud
That was outside and it’s for blind people……
I think it might have gotten amplified by the shitty microphones they use though - it was probably still heard in real life but not as loud as it was on the video
It was actually not that high pitched - just about 5 kHz. A typical frequency where many bad microphones have large peaks in their sensitivity. The real high frequencies >10 kHz was badly attenuated instead - as clearly heard on the water splashes and gravel/rocks under the wheels (it sounds "muffled", like it was recorded thru a thick carpet, haha).
That noise is supposed to be there, it’s so people can hear the truck coming since electric vehicles are so silent
Nice presentation. Very informative with lots of details and VaRi scenarios. I like these trucks I looked at the video in wanting to see the interior and I got chance in seeing that interior. Very nice …
Amazing truck and actually looks really good in my opinion. However, one design flaw I can see is the air lines for the suspension seem to stick below the undercarriage protection plates. One rock/tree snag on that air line and that side of the suspension is going flat. I'm sure the hydraulic dampers will hold some of the weight, I can't see them holding it for very long.
I'm planning on upgrading my flashlight. This vehicle would be a great addition when I get that flashlight.
Lmao.
An electric vehicle I actually really want. So much thoughtful design in this

And proven to work by Ewan McGregor and the team.
It's the only electric vehicle I'd consider buying, hopefully they'll sell them in the UK too.
Except for the tiny bed. Put a toolbox in there and it's not even a truck anymore. Useless.
Damn I'm sold! Never saw a platform for a scissor jack . Makes good sense especially on a soft trail .
I’ve done some 4x4 off roading but I’ve never seen a stock truck climb like the R1T. Rivian has set the EV truck bar now it’s up to the rest to prove their better. Nice truck
