I'm naming mine, DIRTY 30
The original ones can be upgraded by taking them apart and replacing the bearings with a better quality bearing. I did mine two years ago and still going strong.
Great idea! It is a great overall machine. I was always a fan of the side discharging with it. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I have been very fortunate, my stock pulleys on my 21199 model still are in great shape after 2 yrs and my timing belt still looks new. The only two things I have had to replace which I fixed yesturday is the pto belt and the blade engagment cable.
You’re a unicorn! 🦄 I’ve had a TurfMaster and Commercial 30, and I still like the handle bar / controls more on the Timemaster. Cut quality seemed just as good as well. The commerical models are not the most comfortable to use on your hands! Thanks for watching!
@@theSuburbiaDad I prefere the personal pace. Being diabetic with neurapathy I can set the pace I want, basically better for me. Don't know what the unicorn stuff is about but to each their own I suppose.
@mrgreen2769 a unicorn object is something no one ever finds or is hard to find. Your stock pulleys going strong, it’s a unicorn find! Love the personal pace. I wish that was in the commerical line!!!
Pimping that Toro up.. awesome!
I’m the Xzibit of lawn care! 😆
I bought my 30 Timemaster last season, and have changed belts twice and 1 pulley once. I believe I will upgrade mine also. Good video and info thanks.
Thanks! I’ve had zero issues with the upgrade. It has mowed great! Thanks for watching!
I was shocked when one of my idler pulleys went out just a couple years into having my Timemaster. Not something I was expecting on a 2 year old mower but ended up replacing both of them with the normal Toro part…Commercial parts seem nice, but I think a big part of the problem is the belt being over-tensioned. But hopefully these will last the life of the mower!
With the price of the time master it should already have these parts
I got mine before the spike, but totally agree! I’ve yet to have any issues. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Great video! I just upgraded mine. Also it was weird putting on the 2nd pulley because without the tensioner, it was too tight to go on. I loosened everything back up and after 3 failed attempts it’s like the belt was loose enough to slip the pulley into place. Not sure it the teeth where not in the correct slot but it worked great. Thanks for sharing this info!
Nice work! It went pretty smooth for me.
Make sure to use a feeler gauge to set the space (0.25mm) on the spring / clip per manual. It ensures the tension is correct on the belt.
It’s cut great so far! Great machine. Thanks for watching!
nice bud! Mr. 30 ready to go for the season
Mr. 52’s little bro is ready to go! I’m ready to mow. I am almost there! Thanks for watching!
Dude when you get through with that machine It will definitely be a High Performance Sport Mower!✔ Love the shop!
I’m trying to have fun waiting to mow. Today I’ll probably work on Mr. 52 some… greasing, deck leveling, and fresh blades. At least that is my thought right now. 😆 Thanks for watching!
@@theSuburbiaDad 💪🏽
Good video 📹. You are gonna pull a hammy lifting it up on the sawhorses now.
While the bottom is so clean I think they make a spray to keep the grass from sticking. It really packs it in. I always used mine with the side discharge on.
🪚🐴 🥵 😆
Side discharge is my current plan when I use it. I still haven’t mowed yet. I did get a Big League for it. I need to unbox and install. Anyways, thanks for watching!
there are holes on both blade pulleys to line up the blades. I use a drift punch to hold them in place whaile put the belt on and the check for the T blade position
Great idea! Thanks for sharing, watching, and commenting.
Use a .25mm feeler gauge to adjust the tension on the belt to spec. One of my stock pulleys just failed and my blades collided and basically ruined them. I'm replacing both pulleys with this kit. The mower is pretty good but each year when I've scalped Bermuda at the beginning of the season I've had a major failure. Last year a belt broke. This year a pulley failed.
Yep! I got the feeler gauge. Set it perfecto. I’ve had zero issues since I upgraded. Thanks for watching!
It's always a good idea to buy a new mower and start replacing parts before they brake.
… but the new parts won’t. 😆 You’d think they’d just do it, or at least use something better, since it is a know problem. Thanks for watching!
I never ever heard of blades hitting each other. I wish I never knew now. Now everytime I go work on my mower deck I'm going to be trying to make sure blades don't hit. Guess I've been super lucky all of these years.
Rebel! I like it. T those blades. They will touch if timing is right. 🍀 Thanks for watching and commenting!
Any difference in mowing with the upgraded pulleys? Cut any better in thicker grass? If not do you have any other upgrade recommendations
I don’t know that answer. I never mowed with originals. I assume it would be the same feel, just one won’t fail.
Nice video. You missed one step. Setting proper tension on the belt. You don’t completely crush the spring clip when setting the tension. There should be a small gap between the spring clip. Too tight and it can cause premature bearing failure from too much side load.
I’m trying to follow you… do you have a link to a picture?
Thanks for the feedback and watching!
@@theSuburbiaDad
I don’t have a picture. The best source of information on CZcams is Taryl Fixes All.
There are directions for setting blade tension in the original directions as well I think. I would have waited to upgrade myself.
Yes there are. I got the gauge to set the correct gap as well. I almost waited, but I’ve read / seen when they fail it could damage the blades or spindles. I figured the grass isn’t really ready for the mower yet, so why not take care of it ahead of time. Pretty simple process. Thanks for watching!
Just make sure you can slide a piece of paper in between and you’re good.
when mine failed, the blades crashed and broke about 3/4" of the blade. I did actually make it a point not to over tighten this belt but it failed anyway. Around 500 mows.
😮 That would freak me out! I bet it was sooo loud. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I just got a new timemaster. Will wait for the 3 year warranty to run out before I upgrade parts tho
It cuts beautifully! Enjoy!
One of my pulleys failed about a year ago. Damaged the timing belt and blades. Lasted a few years. Replaced with regular pulleys but thinking of upgrading, as you have. Smart move on your part. Good mower, though.
I’ve read a lot about those pulley’s failing. It seemed like a simple change to save me the headache later. Still waiting to mow with it! I did get a Big League for it. I need to install it sometime soon. Thanks for watching!
Amazon has sales commercial pulleys. It takes about 2or 3 days for delivery!
Nice!
never use a power drill when placing back those screws...u can strip the deck
Always do what you’re comfortable with. Drills for sure increase the risk for striping any thread. Thanks for watching!
Do you know if authorized dealer sales have upgraded pulleys vs big box store? Someone told me the dealer units are different but i don’t know if true and if so don’t know what’s different.
Dealers will more than likely have it. I got mine on eBay. You can find it on Amazon as well. Just search for “Exmark 126-7890 Pulley Kit”. I’ve noticed the price as gone up since I put mine on. Thanks for watching!
Hey, what's up? Was wondering where you got the commercial pulleys from along with the black wheels. Mind came with gray wheels. Thanks for the information.
I sprayed the wheels myself. Here is the video… czcams.com/video/GtWJtOfJR8s/video.html
The pulleys I got off eBay. But you can probably get off Amazon or other reputable site. Just search “Exmark 126- 7890 Pulley Idler Kit”.
Hope this helps! Thanks for watching.
I'm definitely going to make that change as well, where did you purchase the parts from? Because all I'm finding is the kit with the blades and extra belts, and I don't need those just yet. Thank you great DIY video. Please provide the part number as well.
I got mine on eBay. You can find it on Amazon as well. Just search for “Exmark 126-7890 Pulley Kit”. I’ve noticed the price as gone up since I put mine on. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
@@theSuburbiaDad Thanks, I'll check it out
Where do I purchase those pulleys looking to buy one of those time master for my back yard and small lawn
I got mine on eBay. You can find it on Amazon as well. Just search for “Exmark 126-7890 Pulley Kit”. I’ve noticed the price as gone up since I put mine on. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
My factory failed after 175 hours of use. I was pissed
😲 That’s why I changed it out right away. I bet it sounded horrible!
Ordered the pulleys, waiting for the kit to show up. I have an unrelated question. I am having trouble with the rear height adjuster, it randomly pops out of the detent and drops the deck while I mow. Wondering if you have heard of this happening and if you know of a fix for it? Thanks in advance.
You probably have a worn part. I would just get a new part and see if that fixes it. Should’ve be too bad for the part. Hope this helps! There is also an awesome Toro Timemaster group on Facebook. There is lots of knowledge there. Thanks for watching and commenting!
The slotted part is clogged with grass not letting the pin go all the way down. You have to take the rear wheels off to clean the groove out.We have to do this once a season or it will jump down a notch and go to scalping without warning.
The OEM pulleys are under warranty if they fail. Just take it to a authorized service shop. I worked for a big repair brand and we would see these mowers come in for broken pulleys replacements at least once a month.
Yep! Warranty repair is nice. I rather not even worry about. The upgrade keeps me mowing and not dealing with the hassle of in and out of shops. Thanks for commenting.
@@theSuburbiaDad Thanks for uploading this video. I will recommend these pulleys to my customers as well.
You’d think by now Toro would just address the problem. It seems like a well documented and well known fail point. Maybe someday?
I did this as well. I also typically leave the belt cover off, even during use. I know some will object to that for safety reasons, but I have had no issues, especially since it has a blade clutch anyway. It allows the belts to run cooler, cleaner and I can keep an eye/ ear on them. I can also blow off the deck easier in between uses. Obviously, if you're going to mow near low hanging or taller vegetation you might want to put it back on for that.
I didn’t want to wait for pulley issues. It seemed, and was, simple enough to change. I’ve seen other people take the cover off for use. Thanks for watching and the input!
I leave mine off too. Doesn’t look the greatest but stays cleaner and cooler.
Thanks for the post, I'm going to take mine off. I'm tired of wondering how much grass is under there.
Great idea!
That synch belt looks too tight. These break constantly when they are. I would back that off just a bit more if you would like to not plan on changing them out all the time. Usually an inch and a quarter width is recommended.
I used a feeler gauge to set the space (0.25mm) on the spring / clip per manual prior to my first mow. It worked awesome! Thanks for watching and letting me know!
Just purchased a Toro time master, could send the info link for the pullys
I got mine on eBay. You can find it on Amazon as well. Just search for “Exmark 126-7890 Pulley Kit”. I’ve noticed the price as gone up since I put mine on. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
@@theSuburbiaDad Thank you.
Stripped out the threads on the bolt on the slide for the tensioner pulley. Any suggestions. bolt broke off drilled it out retapped and its not catching
I assume you figured this out already. What was the solution? Thanks for watching and commenting.
@theSuburbiaDad yep I drilled it out and put a bolt thru with a washer on , stainless, jb welded it so it does not move. No welder at home
@@robertevenson5686 If it works, it works! Sometimes you gotta be creative with what you have available.
Would have like to see him torque down all the small bolts and maybe inform people you have to take the drive belt off
@youamess5 got it! I appreciate the feedback. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Well, that’s kind of disappointing that you would need to upgrade the pulley’s before cutting the first blade of grass 👎🥺. Certainly appears to be a huge quality improvement 👍.
Agree. Just put the Exmark Pulley on it!
can you grease them or are they sealed
The top of the pulley comes off. So, I assume you can drop some grease in. Have you tried? Thanks for watching and commenting.
Is there a link to these commercial pulleys somewhere?

Hows has the pulley been working was there any issues after the fact?
I've reach out to the vendor on amazon for the link you provided but they stated that part doesn't fit.
The one I used fit perfect. I’ve had zero issues.

Does this void the warranty?
I don’t know. Probably. Everything seems to void a warranty.
