I have been very fortunate, my stock pulleys on my 21199 model still are in great shape after 2 yrs and my timing belt still looks new. The only two things I have had to replace which I fixed yesturday is the pto belt and the blade engagment cable.

I was shocked when one of my idler pulleys went out just a couple years into having my Timemaster. Not something I was expecting on a 2 year old mower but ended up replacing both of them with the normal Toro part…Commercial parts seem nice, but I think a big part of the problem is the belt being over-tensioned. But hopefully these will last the life of the mower!

Great video! I just upgraded mine. Also it was weird putting on the 2nd pulley because without the tensioner, it was too tight to go on. I loosened everything back up and after 3 failed attempts it’s like the belt was loose enough to slip the pulley into place. Not sure it the teeth where not in the correct slot but it worked great. Thanks for sharing this info!

Make sure to use a feeler gauge to set the space (0.25mm) on the spring / clip per manual. It ensures the tension is correct on the belt.

Use a .25mm feeler gauge to adjust the tension on the belt to spec. One of my stock pulleys just failed and my blades collided and basically ruined them. I'm replacing both pulleys with this kit. The mower is pretty good but each year when I've scalped Bermuda at the beginning of the season I've had a major failure. Last year a belt broke. This year a pulley failed.

Nice video. You missed one step. Setting proper tension on the belt. You don’t completely crush the spring clip when setting the tension. There should be a small gap between the spring clip. Too tight and it can cause premature bearing failure from too much side load.

I did this as well. I also typically leave the belt cover off, even during use. I know some will object to that for safety reasons, but I have had no issues, especially since it has a blade clutch anyway. It allows the belts to run cooler, cleaner and I can keep an eye/ ear on them. I can also blow off the deck easier in between uses. Obviously, if you're going to mow near low hanging or taller vegetation you might want to put it back on for that.
