The 'Return to Eden'-Tour in 2010 was Ultravox' best tour ever. I was there and the gig, the setlist, sound and visuals are amazing. Now it's 10 years ago. This was my first and i'm sure the last Ultravox concert with the original line up from the 80's (Midge Ure, Billy Currie, Warren Cann, Chris Cross) in my life. I wish it isn't so, but it's the reality. The first singer of the band and for me unforgotten is John Foxx. He left the band in 1979. His by much people unknowing solo songs 'Burning Car' and 'Underpass' are Milestones of the synth pop.
..my neighbours loved Ultravox, especially Mr X back in the 80s and Motorhead of course! I made sure all of the neighbours received quality entertainment.
True. I have Vienna, Rage In Eden, Quartet and Lament in CD, Vinyl and mp3. Midge Ure is a great guitarist and singer and Warren Cann is an great backing vocalist and drummer. Mr.X is his masterpiece since Midge Ure and Warren Cann write the lyrics and Chris Cross and Billie Currie write the music.
Absolutely brilliant. There best piece of work I think. Discovered that it was developed from another track called Touch & Go originally sung by John Foxx. Would love to hear the story about how one song became another like this.
Touch and Go was first showcased on the 1979 Tour of America after which John Foxx (Dennis Leigh) left to go solo and Robin Simon left to join Magazine. Touch and Go appears as a track on Metamatic (John Foxx's first solo album)... Mr X is probably a better rendition of the song imo...
Mr. X is definitely Kraftwerk influenced. One of the best songs from the 'Vienna' album. But still, to me Ultravox was the best with founding member and front man John Foxx, which I saw them (with guitarist Robin Simon) in March of 1979 at the Whiskey A Go-Go in West Hollywood, California. Unfortunately John Foxx quit the band before the end of that month, and he had his reasons to why he left Ultravox which is sad. Robin Simon left as well shortly afterwards.
Best Ultravox song ever😍. The ending part from 5.32 and forward is just hypnotizing

Yeah - he could surely have a lot of voiceover work if he wanted it.
