Thanks for taking the time to do this!
Awesome! I think I have this on old VHS tape lol. Seriously, thanks for the effort. This was awesome.
That time...that era...that music...I was lucky this guys were around during my teenage years...
When fat bobs wig got torn off.. I had a flashback! Totally forgot about that part! I always said this was the most epic concert they ever did! I haven't seen it in years.. thanks for the proper touch up.. it looks great..
I was front row at the wish tour in Williamsburg V.a.
When Robert was about to perform "Friday I'm in love" he said here's a stooped pop song! 😆
💯🖤
In 2023, 37 years later, Robert sings those tunes with the same powerful voice. Such an underrated singer.
I first saw the Cure in Sydney at the Horden Pavillion around 1984 and I will never forget it. Lucky enough to see them again in the 90’s…they are absolutely extraordinary live. THANK YOU for sharing this. I wish too it would be released in HD 💜
I use to rent the vhs of this concert at least once a month for like a year until the vcr broke. Thanks for this perfect quality upload.
Robert Smith: simply the light of my life since 1982❤❤❤
My favorite live concert of all time ♥️🏆
This has to be the coolest looking venue on Earth... and of course the greatest band ever is performing...
The old Roman Theatre was perfect for the bands voice moody, Atmospheric and a pagan feel the old times.
That voice is so iconic as is the entire ensemble. Some bands are timeless and will be enjoyed and marveled at for generations. This is one!
Legendary concert. Cure were always generous to their fans too.. Playing 24 songs flawlessly is no mean feat. Fantastic band. x
Playing 24 songs...two times! The concert was "replayed" the day after the event.
Saw them in Amsterdam a week ago. They started at 08:15 PM and ended their show at 11:00 PM! Amazing show!
Full agreed but let's not forget Porl!
still are!! saw them in birmingham and rob literally sang till his voice went and then still continued!! good 3 hour of cure stuff
@@francescoriccioli4326 I remember Robert saying that when they play a concert with 24-28 songs - they really have practised something like 70+ songs, as they will often change set lists based on the location. They put a ton of effort into these shows.
As a metal head, I discovered The Cure late and now I absolutely love their music, this concert is pure magic.
You could start almost every
opinion with: "As a Metalhead...."
and people would probably
really take it into consideration,
more critically than if you
didn't mention it. 🤘🏻🎶🖤
@@Sadtreesong Metaheads are elite music lovers, and great, socially-conscious people
@@Sadtreesong I was kind of just kidding. It’s great to have broad tastes. I hope I have that too 👌🏻
Ditto that
@@pnwozzy I saw them in Dec 2022 in Glasgow and London.
One of the few bands that sounds as good and better live. Forest is always a track that shines live. Faith is immense in this set.
It was shot on 35mm film at the Théâtre antique d'Orange in the French countryside (Orange, Vaucluse), on 8, 9, and 10 August 1986.
❤
I completely agree with you unfortunately, we never had a physical release of this legendary concert I had to take a laserdisc version and I tried to do the best but nothing will ever be better than a 35mm version
@@OscarGaitan-lk2dl Good point.
They had played at the same place for 3 nights in a row?
@@jimk8592 I guess so but not 100%sure.
Best band of all time! Robert Smith is a musical genius!
As someone who loved Punk and New Wave back in the 80's. I regret not giving The Cure more of a try. Many years later I have grown to enjoy their music. Thanks for posting this show.
This concert and Pink Floyd Live in Pompeii are the 2 defining live music films of my life.
For me, it's this film and Stop Making Sense.
@@diggydude5229 all fantastic choices. Depeche Mode Paris 2001 is pretty incredible also in terms of pure high energy.
Slightly different for me ,this Magnificence ,and The Cult Dreamtime live at the Lyceum👍
@@diggydude5229 Yes 👍And although I'm not that much of a hip hop fan, I also find the "Beastie Boys 1999 Glasgow" to be one of the best concerts out there. HipHop meets Punkrock. Unfortunately I can't find it in good quality.
@@AlexAlcyone is DM Paris on YT? Never seen it and can't find it.
NM my good man oh I found it!!
Professional af 👌
They are all legends but the impact of Boris Williams on this band can’t be understated. Perfect drummer for The Cure.
One of the best drummers in the history of Rock, period.
To drum for The Cure you have to be in shape!
he's massively underrated, the man was as tight as a drum machine
Cannot believe I have not watched it in a long long time. This is the classic lineup in my opinion which I really loved because I grew up with this one. These guys are in a class all by themselves and hearing this once again in their absolute prime is special! Man they are good and the filming was HQ!
I totally agree. Boris added another element to the band and it made them so much better. My favorite Cure era was when he was with the band. Hands down the best drummer The Cure ever had and it's not even close.
I own this on VHS. Thanks for not making me have to drag out my VCR to play it. Excellent quality.
I remember in the late 90s, Lol played in 'Levinhurst' at a small venue in my hometown of Jacksonville, FL. I took many pictures of the show with my Sony Cybershot (floppy disk days), and Lol asked me to email him the photos. I was ever so happy about this, considering I had loved The Cure since I was merely a kid and learned quite a number of their songs on keys & guitar. He wound up using my live photos on the website for Levinhurst at that time, and it made my life gleeful for a moment. Thanks, Lol. You & your wife were sweethearts to me.
(P.S. I've seen The Cure 5 times in total, with my favorite being at The Beacon Theatre in NYC where they played only their first 3 albums. MAGICAL.)
Just saw them live and they played most of these songs just as well 37 years later, a testament to a great band.
They’re also playing much longer sets now, and added so many classics after this was recorded. Timeless band.
or they haven't done anything good since 1991 which is the reality
The very reasoning about
their name . . .
The Cure ❤
How brilliant and great for you. I couldn't afford tickets when they came to New Orleans this year. Great tickets were more than my monthly rent. But I saw them in 1987, so I am happy. They ROCKED!!
@The.Last.Guitar.Hero. Who cares? They are so many great songs from the start up until Disintegration. There are a couple from wish that are also great.
I had this on VHS when I was a teenager. Thank you so much for uploading it to You Tube.
Same. I wore out the tape
i have it on vhs as a 50+ idiot 😅 made cassette copies off the audio way back then and played it everywhere.
hope we get a dvd/blu-ray someday, but even if it doesn’t happen we still have this 😉
The first time I seen them was 3 years before this in Glasgow barrowlands in 84...it was my first gig.... amazing I will never forget it...the set was outstanding and at this time a prity dam good lineup...I met them a few years later at back of Edinburgh playhouse...and still got the pics ✌️🖤😸
My cousin who was also from glasgow loves the cure. I'm not sure if he saw them live though? He lives in Portugal.
@@Halfscotboy_39 thats cool. I hope hes seen them.
@@GutterHeartsTV I think maybe just from tv? He also liked Madness, Supergrass and The Stranglers (Golden Brown) was a particular fave of his I remember him telling me back in the day. 👍
wow, what an unforgettable experience, im so happy smiling at my screen reading that..I can’t imagine how amazing it must’ve been to be experience their peak years in real life..
@@ntz7358 ye I was so lucky, it was live on BBC at the time and I got a ticket for free that afternoon and still have it...That gig is actually on CZcams. 🖤
A Strange Day best version ever !!!! 🧘
Yes.
Si
i love simons enthusiasm here especially with the spinning and dancing 🤗
He still is today... well, okay, slightly less with age 🤫😊😜
Sorry, I'm stoned, and thought of something else. To think, this concert was almost 2 hours long, and these guys were in their early 30s. Now, in their 60s, they're playing 3+ hour long concerts!!
Being stoned listening to this music means you understand and appreciate the Goth sound which is Moody, Atmospheric and Otherwordly takes you to a previous time.
I was the right age, at 16 to have been there. If it weren't for the Atlantic ocean and being in high school. Long live The Cure. Long live the 80's.
Wow never thought they'd sound even better live than on recording
I think The Cure is one of those bands that always sounds better live than on recording.
@@wpleary2 I agree 100%
Ya dude.....check Robert Smith out live.....!!!! Bucket list.
I got to see them in concert about five years ago. They were phenomenal. I usually don't like live music, but they were great. I was amazed at how energetic Simon was; he stomped around the stage the whole thing.
Blown away when I heard this for the first time, how can live sound so much better? It just does
One of the reasons like the cure, they sound better in live than studio . Maybe just me, love watching live stuff
Boris Williams greatest drummer the Cure ever he was better than a Drum Machine his Patterns were outstanding for this band he had a feel that otherwordly perfect for the bands voice.
I was there and it is unbelievable to be able to see it now, after such a long time!!!!!!!
Best Line up
Bruce Wayne (Batman) : Voice and Guitars
Wolverine: Bass Guitar
Barry (Bee Movie): Keyboards
Krusty Clown: Keyboards, Guitar and Sax
Count Dracula: Drums
sorry, but if robert is batman-simon has always got to be robin-the perfect sideman.
Ahhhh!!!! This brings me back to 1986 at 9 years old, riding my bike 10 miles to the only record store in town to buy this VHS tape. I left and I got it!!! I loved it so much then and I love it so much now!! I will always be a fan!!
Cool story!
@@silversaint Thank you so much!!! Makes me feel very OLD though!! 🤣🤣
I was 12 years old , and i saw this video all the time , now is the same sense.
@Cannon Baller2020 that is a nice story. I was in my late teens when I first watched this and was blown away. It inspired me so much that my brothers and I formed a band and covered A Forest, Boys don’t cry and killing an Arab. Not anywhere close to this but I have happy memories. I was hooked on The Cure and have been ever since. This gig also inspired me to get the same haircut as Smith had here and soon after I was in New York in a guitar shop and bought a black and white fender telecaster as well. All in all this VHS cost me a lotta cash lol
@@lukeoverthere1364 thank you so much!! Yeah, the VHS tape cost me a ton too, and I only had half of the money. My parents gave me the other $25 but loads of washing dishes, taking out garbage, cleaning my room, and other stuff, while my 3 brothers laughed at me, gave me the rest to get it. My 2nd oldest brother loved The Cure and asked me on numerous occasions to borrow it, and I smugly told him no way....or I made him clean my room, dirty socks and everything! 🤣🤣
That's awesome you started a band and did their song's. My friend's and I tried to start a band and I was going to be the bass player.....but sadly, I had and still have no instrument playing capabilities and was way better at sport's. They all got pissed at me for not learning in a month and stopped talking to me.....long story, but they were a-holes. That's a really cool story you told me and at least you tried and could play. The only instrument I ever played was the clarinet....and I sucked at that too!! 🤪🤣
Epic show. Not a cell phone on sight. Everyone is connected through the music as it should be
Incredible .. just incredible! Saw them in NYC in June 2023
Same voice !!❤❤❤
Man, would love a true 4K release of this....I can only imagine the cool stuff The Cure must have in the archives after 40+ yrs of playing.
one constant for 44 years of cure performing live - Bob says something completely unintelligible into the mic then perfectly innuciates the next song.
suhma-dahh.click.blehhhh,da..songgalled play for today.
Haha glad it's not just me thinking that all all this time!!
Everything he says has meaning and fits together, you must be not native english?
@@RobertMcDougall73 Probably a yank, they have trouble with any accent that isn't mid-western drawl.
@@thadtuiol1717water has a “t” in it.
This is just one of the best concert films of all times. The band - legends.
The definitive version of Sinking. They have never played it better since.
OMG. I love the first minute when Robert's wig is tossed away. The slo-mo smile and joy in his face. Made me all warm inside. F**king awesome.
Reading all these comments makes me so happy. Amazing how much The Cure has touched all our lives. I will be forever indebted to Robert for his creation.
I still can almost not listen to some Cure songs, in particular a Strange Day. It just transports me straight into the most painful time of my entire life. But absolutely brilliant that great music can do that.
In an alternate world The Cure released In Orange on Blu Ray and 4K. Renting this VHS on Blockbuster back in the 90’s got me into The Cure.
It even came out on Laser Disc! I had a player but not this concert.
I still have the VHS! (stolen from my sister, LOL)
I had no money as a kid back in Mexico....all I had was enough to get me a copy of Disintegration....that album was contagious and was the one that got me into The Cure, I was around 11 years....magic times and memories.....
This is probably my favourite live video of all time... Absolute perfection. I've learnt so much from this- both as a performer and as a spectator. Sublime stuff.
Never get tired of watching this...literally seen it hundreds upon hundreds of times over the last 30 plus years. Great Job !
SAME! Saw it in the theater. VHS. Bootleg DVD. Downloads. CZcams. I have a rip of the audio too. It’s basically my favorite Cure album.
Me to. My dad put this on the tv when I was a kid (VHS) and I remember really liking sinking. Now I’m 37 and still listen to this regularly. IMO this was their peek.

Hands down the best concert video ever.
One of the best gigs they ever did.
El mejor concierto de Cure, de toda su carrera. El sonido , los temas , el lugar !!!!! . Tuve la suerte de conocer ese lugar.
Seeing this brings back so many memories. I waited in line all night to buy this on VHS when it released. I think i was 14/15 at the time. My best friend and I watched it until it wore out.
Bought this VHS day it was released, still got it. Had it converted to DVD, but this ...wow !
Many Thanks.
Here's (still) hoping for the Blu-ray !
J'y etais, par hasard, au premier rang. Je n'aurais jamais imaginé à l'époque regarder cette vidéo à l'âge de 60 ans...
Were you really????? Oh my God!!! I would've gone absolutely nuts! I was 12 when I watched this and fell in love with Simon. I wanted to have his children.... at 12 years old. I was a dumb kid, I know. 🤣🤣🤪🤪
What memories!!
Wonderful concert.. The Cure at its peak! great lind up.. Boris shines with his uncanny ability and great live sound.
When i saw them in 87..they did 3 encores!! Good luck getting bands to do that now.😮
Saw them on the 4th of July in San Jose CA I think in like '91. So great.
My absolute favorite version of a Forest ever
I cry every time I listen to this masterpiece, if only I could live one day back, that's where I'd want to be.
This is pure magic, pure joy, pure memories, this makes live worth living. My favorite band ever!❤️❤️❤️

the best band I have ever seen. sound and performance top notch
A Forest - A master at works 😊
A band is as good as its drummer. Hope Boris will come back one day even if for just one show.
Absolutely INCREDIBLE. Thanks so much for putting this here for us to enjoy. I was never lucky enough to get the VHS video and hope one day it will be on DVD. I could happily just watch this forever and never get bored. Simon mesmerises me, not going to lie!
One of the best gigs ever performed
Lot of really good songs here. And the sound quality is great.
My god...he absolutely nails the vocals in 'Push'. so great. especially at 45:51. makes the hair on my neck tingle.
I agree 100%. I love him and that song so much 🖤 it was one of the best moments when I saw them live last year. I'll keep it in my heart forever.
Fave song off HOTD
This is a such a classic, they keep promising this as a BluRay release, and it never happens. Such a shame. Thanks for the upload.
Robert always said that he did not like the way the concert was filmed. He said that it was not them. It's interesting because for their public, it is them. He is wrong here.

Werde ihn und The Cure immer lieben ❤❤❤
Bin 28 und Bands wie The Cure lassen mich davon träumen wie es wäre in den 80ern aufgewachsen zu sein. Schade dass es heute wenig vergleichbar gute Gruppen gibt!
To all you Cure fans, who obviously have profound depth and brilliant taste in music, hello! Its nice to see I'm not the only one still in awe and wonder, 35+ years later. They've changed music forever! Robert Smith, you genus! What a grand and permanent mark, no, gash, you've left in the music world- like Mozart. 😍 I hope i get to listen to The Cure still when I'm dead. Otherwise, I'd rather stay in this horrid place so i can!

Arguably the best ever Cure line-up in support of arguably one of the best ever Cure albums (yeah, I know Lol is essentially a spare part, but he's a founding member, so he gets a free pass).
LOL for sure will always be a founding member and family, he did so much in TC, just go and take a look around to Pornography and his Beats and drum patterns were Awesome.......
Such a shame about Tolhurst. He was definitely phoning it in when this was filmed.
Porl is frequently looking questioning into lols direction. I’m wondering if he’s thinking: mate will you still show up today or are you going to take the piss all evening long?
Maybe the best time to see the cure in concert. Robert smith was still young and full of energy. I've never been a fan of the happier songs but it makes a very good mix of sad and cheerful emotions.
I know some artists can still be very good later in their life but there's always something lost regarding attitude and charisma when youth is gone.
not always lost.... but you are right overall. Most people lose their edge. But to illustrate that it doesn't always go that way... one of the most high energy performers I ever saw was an African percussionist who played with Juno Reactor.. he was 70... guy was an absolute fireball...
Id go for 1989 as the best live era. The Prayer Tour shows are just amazing...........
Having said that, this was also an excellent time for Cure shows (85/86) !!!
Maybe people were not programmed to last beyond 35.
Have you seen him recently? I saw them in 1992 and 2019 and it was the same band performing a massive show. I did not notice any slowdown.
