About the "stare"... in Germany it is also considered a desplay of respect to make direkt eye contact when talking to someone. On the contrary, when you talk to someone without actually looking at them and/or making eye contact, it can be taken as "rude" or disrespectful. So... "the German stare" is - most of the time - really just a sign of curiosity about someone or, when in direct conversation it's just polite and respectful to make eye contact.
i hate being an autist in austria.....
it's not about eye contact while talking, but more about staring at someone in public places (like tram oder bus) without any further interaction
@@PandaManOkay Just look them in the eyes, most people look away after a few seconds of eyecontact
@@PandaManOkay People over here tend to look at interesting things, may the interest be positive or negative (both are possible). Just be interested in return, direct eye contact isn't necessary and stare back. This will dissolve the situation quite quickly. What I recognized about the stare is that everyone who complaines about it is a good looking and/or sort of famous people who would be stared at if they were white either. I rhink in James' case this isn't as much a thing since his looks are quite unique, but if you're more average looking people may stare a little bit longer to process who you are and to make sure they
- don't know you
- really don't know you
- hey that's some nice looking shirt
- don't even know someone who looks similar to you
- can't find anything relateable on you like maybe some pokémon badge
- if they find something relateable, if they should come talk to you
- really really really don't know you
- oh heck how long have I been looking at them!?
- that bag is cool
- damn it must be like hours!!!!
- look in the other... oh they are gone....
all this take some time. to shorten it up, check similar things and everything is just fine. As I said there could be negative interest as well but most of the time people do not mean harm.
About staring I still don't ge t it. Because we don't stare. Even if you sit in a tram in Cologne before or after work, ist's just looking around. Nothing more.
James, we want to adopt you! 😂 Germany needs people like you! You definitely have to visit more often! And I’m deeply impressed with your German skills! Your pronunciation is really good!
its true, he is a bit shy speaking german, but he has talent for pronunciation and I believe he has enough german vocabulary to try more. He needs to let fall the shyness for this, and he's gonna learn quite fast.
I'm glad that the German guys not only stuffed you with fast food, but also showed you "real" food. There's a lot more of it, go for it!!
If he would come to my house i would Cook real food like that everyday to him or anyone 😂😂
Too funny how the Japan Ramen turned James into a German speaker 🤣
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@JamesBray3 it was "german" ramen, therefore... 🤣
James whenever you try to talk in german i am sitting here like: "yes, you stumble a bid, but your prononciation is sooooo insane good"
Glad to see you enjoying the food here in germany :3
Hey James- a german saying is, when you had a great lunch: "nach dem Essen sollst du ruhen, oder 1000 Schritte tun" (after lunch you should rest, or do 1000steps) That´s meant when someone saying: "Verdauungsspaziergang"
How does it feel to be adopted by CZcams Germany? Im wondering what he thinks about getting so much love from everyone.
Glad to see Germany is everything you thought it would be. You just experienced the tip of the tip of the iceberg. I fell in love with this place on the second day I was here and 33 years later I’m still falling in love with it.

Your laughter cracks me up every time! It's so contagious...
There is something I really enjoy about watching you exploring different aspects of Germany. Nice video!

Hey Rob, Hi - "Society-James", hope you have real fun. James, you looked really good outside the restaurant eating oysters. 😁😁 A lot of fun to watch you. 👍 I really hope you already had a really good hangover, from the German beer? Don't make us wait so long for the next video. 😁😁 🍺 😅
It's so nice to see you enjoying all this experiences you made in Germany❣
James you are such a wholesome human being! Your laugh is so cute! Love watching your videos 😊💖

It is a pleasure to see you having such an awesome time. I mean, your expectations must have been skyhigh before coming to Germany. And also: you seem to be looked after by some pretty awesome folks here… enjoy!
As a German, I can so much feel Robs joy to see you enjoy it... I also feel it. LOVE THIS VIDEO AND LOVE YOUR COMBINATION
One of the big food life hacks that's a secret to everybody: almost every dairy product can be enhanced by adding honey. And I only say "almost" because there's always an exception even if I can't think of one now. Cheese and honey are great and the stronger the cheese, the better the combo. Goat and blue cheese are a completely different experience with a bit of honey.
Hot milk and honey - a comfort beverage in winter. Joghurt with honey is a nice, somewhat healthy snack and actually pretty good for the digestive system, if consumed regularly. Cream cheese and honey, cottage cheese and honey, and one of the most underrated dairy products: quark and honey. It's all amazing, replaces sugar or other sweeteners (yeah, it's still sugar but at least not the worst of sugars), and can make for a simple, not-too-heavy dessert or as a base for salad dressings. Joghurt + honey + mustard + salt add up to a simple but very satisfying honey-mustard dressing.
Blend tuna, red onions, salt, and a bit of honey with creme cheese and you got a nice sandwich spread with just the right amount of honey-typical sweetness to make it more interesting.
Also, anything you do with yoghurt - replace half of it with quark and blend well for a low-fat, high-protein snack or base with a less boring texture than plain medium- or low-fat yoghurt.
I've watched many videos from US-Americans visiting Germany for the first time and I think the main takeaway/culture shocks can be summed up as followed: Being surprised at the freshness of our food, from high-end over street food to even fast food or cheap food in supermarkets (and that's why I think we got a lot of things to complain about in Germany but complaining about our strict food and health regulations is not justified).
And despite our love for personal space, dislike for small talk, and a clear distinction between friendliness and basic politeness, we seem to come across as kind of laid back in general since we don't turn anything related to nudity and alcohol in a dramatic "Think of the children!" thing and because of a general live and let live/don't bother me and I won't bother you attitude lol.
Who reads that whole thing, dang it

18:30 Most of the city center was destroyed in WW II. When you look at pictures you can see, that nearly all was ruined.
When people rebuilt the city, they did not have the money, to make it beautiful. So most buildings are just "usable".
But some Buildings and locations are very beautiful and I love the Town.

As a Coloniac i can say, Cologne is not typical German. It is a kind special. If you want, Cologne is the New Orleans of Germany 😅
And why is that ? I see no gastronomical differences between Hamburg , Berlin or Cologne besides of the typical region specific dishes that exist in every big region …
It's exceptionally ugly though haha
@@diggaderbeflashing4309 each city says they are unique
I mean, there is not a single town that is "typical german". There are obvious differences between east and west germany and also north/south. Or even small regions within the same Bundesland are culturally different.

Mein mann lives in brandenburg and watching your videos, as a fellow american to visit deutschland, makes me so happy ♥
Junge, dein Deutsch ist echt super gut 👍👍 Feier ich!
Germany isn't that much cheaper actually, because incomes are way lower than in the US.
Nobody will spend 1000 Euro a night for a hotel room, because for the majority of the people, this would be 1/2 or more of their monthly income
Thumbs up! You will even get 1 million for sure, because you deserve it !
I (and we Germans) love you. Stay blessed, brother.❤
You should totally do a „Brauhaustour“ and try all the different kinds of Beers! You’ve already tried a few in a previous video but it was only the tip of the iceberg :) there Kölsch Brands that are MUCH better (Schreckenskammer, Gaffel straight at the brewery, and the Päffgen that you’ve tried in this video) or taste very different (Gilden, Peters Kölsch); then you haven’t really tried different brands of Pils and then there’s also multiple Bavarian Brauhäuser in Cologne that you should try! I’d be really curious to see what brand you liked most after trying them all 😊 and I’ll bet on it, after trying Schreckenskammer, Päffgen and Gaffel you won’t find Bavarian beer to be generally superior anymore ^^
Even though i agree with everything else u said, i clearly have to disagree with u on your last sentence. The diversity and culture of beers, especially local brewerys, in bayern is a lot better then around Cologne, even compared to every other federal state. Im not talking about the typical bland brands like Paulaner and Co. For example brewery Schönram (Everything they do is good. Btw. the brewer who took charge is from the US), the Staffelsee Gold wheat beer of brewery Karg in Murnau at the Staffelsee, or the beer manufactury Riegel in Augsburg, just to name a few.
Imagine you’d meet with Lukas to go on a Vienna Food Tour that be so amazing ! Mega cooles Video
Köln was a good choice to pick for your first stay, it has a lot to offer. I would always recommend to stick to the local specialties - like when in Köln, you drink a Kölsch. But going for a Haxn in Köln is like … visiting New Orleans and getting New York style pan pizza „for the real deal“.

I am kinda suprised that you talked about the supermarket, since ours are usually way smaller and streets are narrow and more defined, close. I was expecting you to mind that a little, but I guess since you were in Asia already, I guess the spaces there are even tighter and smaller.
