  • How To Check Brake Fluid - ALWAYS clean the cap first! As useful as brake fluid is, it still requires regular maintenance, just like your other automotive fluids such as coolant or motor oil. For most vehicles, it's recommended to change your brake fluid every 1 to 2 years. To check your fluid level, you'll need to let your car cool down if it's been running. Next, locate the brake fluid reservoir. The owner's manual should tell you the specific location for your particular vehicle, but in most vehicles you can find it on the driver's side near the firewall.

    I Would also recommend:
Hydraulic Jack Release Valve - let it down slowly!

I had a mechanic put brake fluid in above the max line. Can I just take some out until I reach the max line?

Yes - use a syringe. It’s easy, safe and fast with a syringe.

I had lost my brake cap (dot 4) when I was checking the color it fell in the the engine and didn’t show up on the ground so put a dot 3 brake cap and it was tight and secure doesn’t it matter that I put a differnt brake cap ?

If it’s a secure fit, then it will be fine. Many lose those caps or replace them with after market ones - so it’s not an issue. Just remember to always use the correct fluid regardless of what is on the replacement cap.
