You really never know how things are going to shake out. When I chose my first agent, I had 2 offers, & I ended up going with the agent who had been in the business longer, & she left agenting after a few years. I didn't get handed on to somebody else in the agency & my book was basically dead in the water at that point, so I took a couple years to write a new book before querying & ended up with that other offering agent, now with more years under her belt & a lot more sales. I loved my first agent but I was happy for her to move on to what was right for her in her career (working elsewhere in publishing) & I love that I ended up getting the chance to take that "road not taken" with the other agent who offered on my first book after all. & ex-agent & now-agent have been friends all along, so that's nice!
You had quite the rollercoaster too. I'm so glad it worked out for you, really speaks to you resilience in this industry! ❤
Oh my god the mourning of the first line is such a moment! I rarely consider myself to be overly precious about my writing but when I was on a late draft of my novel and realized the first line (which had remained constant for many years) was going to change…I almost cried. Loved this vlog!
Yes, it's been the same line since 2018 😭 but, if it doesnt work gotta let it go for the stronger draft unfortunately. 😂
Hey...if the line doesn't work....cut it.....for a superior draft later on..... well..... ROCK ON!!!
I am so glad getting a new agent worked out for you. That would have been discouraging after the whole querying process. I know the feeling of completely hating your book, and having to put it down to refresh and come back to it. Always so many relatable Libra moments in your videos. ❤️ glad you felt good about the final edits.
How on earth do you have the energy for all this creative output after a full day at work? It’s seriously so impressive 😭 loved the vlog!
literally my exact thoughts every single time 😅
@@Jana-ln9tq right! Like it’s not even just the writing, it’s the filming and the editing too. When I finish work I wanna go lie down in a sensory deprivation chamber for 3-5 business days.
the sheer will to become traditionally published hahaha. the dream gets me through 😂
so many updates!! i hope you love your new first line even more than the original!!! excited to see your next writing vlog
It might take me getting use to it since the other one was from 2018 😭But, the first line lives on in the pitch letter my agent wrote!
@@gingerreadslainey thats good to hear!!
I am just so beyond excited to read your books. Literally all of them.
I also CANNOT get over the exposed brick walls in your unit. It's BEAUTIFUL
I really hope you come back to discuss your writing and submissions (no matter how it’s going)! I miss your vlogs so much!
When I read the title, my thoughts were "oh shit" - but I'm so glad that your new agent is excited about your work!! (Also funny that it came full circle from being rejected to being taken on). Hope you continue to feel better and can't wait to see how everything progresses!
Hahaha. Yes, it was definitely a full circle moment! So happy to have landed the way I did after the news my first agent was leaving.
When I saw the new agent news on insta I could only imagine how stressful that was! But I'm so glad you picked up another great agent right away.
When I got the email she was sadly leaving, I was logging into a zoom meeting 😂 had to go off camera for that one lolol
Finally getting around to watching this. I’m hoping to be back into my full writing mood all the time soon. I’m working on Draft 3 for my Cinderella retelling, but I’m not fully invested yet
As someone who went from one indie publisher to another (the first one closed 🤭) I know how you feel! I’m excited to see your journey with your new agent!
“As a Libra, we love gossip.”
I’m feeling very called out right now 🤣
Heehee ♎
Not me watching like “I wonder what that confession chapter is about? Is it like an interrogation?”
And then thought for two seconds and I was like 🤦🏾♀️ omg Liselle
Thanks for sharing your writing journey. Please share when you're book get published. I can't wait to read it.
So happy the agent change went smoothly for you! I can’t freaking wait to read this book! Just putting that out into the universe for you :) ps I put the everything bagel seasoning on avocado toast and it is next level!
I keep putting good energy out there for this book too! 😂 Lately when I make scrambled eggs, I'll put cream cheese in and the everything bagel seasoning on top and it's so good 😭
An air fryer was one of the best gifts I ever got. Love yours, it's so cute! The one I have is a monster! Also, congrats on getting through your edits!
I can't believe i've gone this long without one! it's so convenient and making stuff is so easy. and tasty!
This sounds like a nerve-wracking process to me! Hopefully everything with your new agent works out well!
It was the most stressful of weeks for sure haha. I have high hopes this will work out great--we meshed so well and both are on the same page with everything, so I couldn't have asked for a better second agent if this was how it was all supposed to shake out!
@@gingerreadslainey that is great! I'll have my fingers crossed too!
I can’t wait to read this book someday 😭
thanks max! i'm really hoping this is it!
hi! I loved your video! when you were querying, what did you happen to include in your query letter? hopefully, after I finish my third draft, I'm thinking of traditionally publishing my work?
Hi there! I suggest googling how to write a query letter because it'll definitely be more in depth and helpful than what I could say in a comment. Lots of great resources out there I suggest checking out Alexa Donne's videos on here and visiting the QueryShark website!
@@gingerreadslainey tysm! I'll look into them :)
Hey Lainey,
Same thing happened to me. My agent, who I loved, sold my first book on a pre-empt, woot woot, and then in the middle of working on a second book left the biz. I ended up signing with another agent at the agency, his boss, and while I love my new agent as a human, we have different ideas for my career trajectory. My first book straddled two genres, and her tastes want it pushed one way, while I'm heading in the other. So now I have some decisions to make :(
Ah, I'm so sorry to hear about this! Congrats on the pre-empt though, that's amazing! Career-decisions like that are never easy and feel so scary. I was so hoping Laura and I would mesh well when we chatted and felt so relieved when we did, because the thought of querying again made me want to hide. I wish you luck on whatever decision you make!
Love your glasses!
Thank you!
I really wanna try that chicken nugget recipe now
Not going to lie but when you were talking about going to another agent in your agency...I was a little bit worried but I'm really happy for you that she loves your book! Can't wait to read it! 💕❤
Yes! I was nervous too when it happened. I'm just so grateful Laura and I get along so well and we're on the same page with the book and future projects.
@@gingerreadslainey I definitely would have been nervous too! I think you handled everything really well! Wow, that's really good to hear!! Like, woah, that's awesome!!
*raises hand as a lover of the cooking b roll* that's me lmaoooo
I just got to the part where you said that it stresses you out omg that is totally fair and please don't feel the need to appeal to food b roll nerds like me asfgsdfgds
Post-vlog comment: the anxiety that slots in perfectly to replace a previous anxiety is very relatable. I hope working with your new agent continues to be fruitful and happy!!
i'll get the hang of showing it the more i use the instant pot and air fryer! the instant pot is so daunting, i'm triple reading recipes as i go and stressing out I'm going to mess something up lolol. so far everything i've made has turned out great though.
What happened to you??? Is your book published?
we would to collab with you kindly check your mail
