- Hello! I am back with a writing vlog! And guess what? I MOVED! Over the weekend, I vlogged finishing up the outline on my new project to send to my agent and I am settling into my new apartment quite nicely! Having a lot of fun unpacking and decorating, and giving you guys a messy lil apartment tour.

as for writing, am trying to currently draft out the third act. it's been a difficult thing to do given some july * stuff * that was chronicled in the camp nano vlogs, BUT i think i finally cracked the code!!!!!!!

So happy to see you again, and I'm really looking forward to hearing more details about Project Crime. Your new place has so much character and the lighting is super cozy, I love the glow of lamps. I can't wait for autumn decorations, the fall colours will look great with the brick walls. I'm over summer too and want sweater weather, bring on the candles! I'm starting on my third draft of my mystery, and I'm hoping this one will get me close to query ready. Although every time I look at it I see more that needs to be done, LOL! Oh well. Can't wait for more videos, thank you for making so much awesome content, I know it's a lot of work!

Great to hear from you. The new apartment looks amazing. I love it! I started drafting a little while ago after a long break for illness, then I had to prioritise some day-job related stuff. 🤦♀️ Can’t wait ti get back to it though. It’s pulling at my awareness all the time, which is a really good sign, I think. 👍

Omg I totally feel you when it comes to being distracted by Sims. I've been doing the same exact thing this past month. Trying to write, but getting distracted by Sims. It's a struggle lol.

Your new apartment looks so cozy! That brick wall is amazing. Right now in my writing journey, I’m at the scene right before the aha! moment. Part of me thinks I should just keep going because I’m so close to the end, but part of me wants to take a step back and reevaluate my outline. I’m already seeing what changes I want to make and know it’ll affect the ending. Do you get this feeling too when you get closer to the end of a first draft?
Congrats on almost finishing! That's so exciting. I think at that point, I'm so close to the end that I just want to finish, even though I'm probably already thinking of future changes. My endings tend to change a lot anyway.

I had the same outlining feelings! I'm usually a pantser but I decided to outline this one. It's all bullet points and it's not long, maybe four pages. But I think it's good? 😂
I think that's great! The first book I completed the outline was half a page of bullet notes 😂 it worked for me at the time! It's all about finding what works for you and every project might be different as you learn more about the way you work. Anything that helps you complete the draft! Good luck with your writing ❤
Can you explain more about how you work with an underwritten draft? My biggest insecurity as a writer is I always underwrite my drafts, and you're one of the first people who I've heard that can see that as a positive! Any advice?
Yes, sure! I found that underwriting helped me expand and improve subplots and characterization in the subsequent drafts whereas when I wrote 100k+ first drafts, it was a lot of words to work with and was mostly finding ways to cut things and then always rewriting large swaths of the book because I'd be going in another direction with the revised plot and just resulted in, what I felt like, were wasted words. Underwriting my last book just felt like a natural build on what I already had and felt more organic and focused with every revision. My first draft was 60k, which might seem like a lot, but at the time, it was the shortest first draft I ever wrote.
Lainey writes 3k outlines. Then there is me with my 500 word outlines...
Hahahaha! 😂 in my defense though, this is definitely the longest outline I've done before starting a book!
Advice from someone who lived in California; don't put anything over your bed that you wouldn't want falling on your face in the middle of the night.

Scrivener is a writing software I use to write. It's like MS Word or GoogleDocs, but just a little more intuitive for writers. 😊
