  • Quick vid on on how to disable oil injection with a block off kit. Demonstration is completed on a 1990 V6. During the video I Mercury Power Tune which did bring up the compression on all cylinders 10psi. Questions? Leave em in the comments... and as always, Thanks for watching!!!! Son

I just wanted to clear up a couple things about this process. After watching your video, which is excellent BTW, I went through this on my 1992 135HP Black Max. I ended up completely removing the oil warning module and throwing it away. Also, many (Including a Mercury Marine service bulletin) suggest disconnecting the Idle Stabilizer module as a failure of this component can cause extreme advance of the timing at high RPM which will toast the motor. Its not difficult to do and may or may not require re-timing the motor. Also, pay careful attention to seating the O-ring on the black plastic block off cover and orient the flat part towards the motor crank. Mine really had only one way that it would go in with the bolt holes lined up properly. When mine was done my idle was a little high but adjustment of the idle speed per the service manual helped that out. Thanks again for this awesome video!

Yet again an excellent video. AND timely as well. I just ended up with a 3 cylinder 80 to build. Want to first see what I have then ditch the oil injection. I also have a 90 inline 6, haven't figured what to do with it, needs an ignition I think. After market or fix the stock one...not sure. Acquired a later model inline sic with the later ignition, maybe see if I can blend the two...some many projects, so little time. One nice thing about being in the Finger Lakes...lots of old fresh water mercs to play with for cheap this time of year!

Yeah, nice job. Thanks for the video. I am still unclear on a couple of points. Looking at the service manual for my 92 Black Max 135 I see two wires ( a blue and a black) from the reserve oil tank and I guess you just left these disconnected with no alarm afterwards? And, the motion sensor module on top of the oil pump has 3 wires shown in my manual ( a black, a white and a blue-white) to tell the engine that the oil pump shaft is rotating. What did you do with these wires? Just left them disconnected also? Finally, there should have been a hose from the lower crankcase that provides pressure to the external main oil reservoir tank outside the motor. What did you do with that? Just cap it with a bolt and clamp? Just a few details that I'd like to have tied up before I start this job. Thanks for your help.

Thanks for posting this video. My pops and I came across an 1988 mag2. It has been messed with previously to us getting it. The oil injecting is removed already. Also someone was using an electric fuel pump for this engine before. I've removed that crap and rebuilt the mechanical one that was on the motor.

do you have a link for the block off kit? can you share what you did to modify the motor stand to hold an outboard? Thanks for taking the time to make these videos

Are mercury’s 2 different fuel line sizes? 3/8ths going to the engine 5/16ths from the pump?

What are you spraying into the throttle plates? And why? I’m pretty sure I have an idea, but I just want to be sure.

Hey i got a 1994 mariner oil injected. After i refilled my oil tank i took it out and it ran great no smoke. The last time i took it out just a couple weeks later the motor was smoking a lot. It sat all winter and it started right up this weekend. Still smokes a lot. Any reasons why? Thanks

Do you mix 50:1 after deleting the oil injection system? Mine is deleted and I use 50:1 ratio mixture but it smokes a lot only at idle really. Any idea what is going on with mine? Should I change the mixture ratio?

Why do away with the oil injection?? Is it a problem?? Me and my buddy both have early oil injection v6 motors. Is there a problem with certain years?

So do you have to do a block off kit? Or could you just not use your oil tank and premix ?

hey mercson im still having issues with my 71 1350. i have replaced the distributor, rotor, cap, and wires I have also tested the box and it is working like its supposed to. I'm still not getting spark to the plugs. is the coil the next thing to replace? the coil i can find online doesn't look like the one that is on my motor. does it matter if I use the newer type on my motor?

I think you had the block off 180 that's why it didn't line up probably rubbing on the crank drive that meshed with the old pump shaft. There's a Lil taper
