  • Re-priming the self oiling system on a Mercury2 stroke. The model is a 2004 XR6 150 carbureted outboard. I had some issues when I ran out of oil in the big tank, and did not fully re-prime the top tank. This is from a cold start-up start to finish.

Agreed. The bottom tank had a buildup on the strainer. Cleaned it and hope all is well now.

I bought a boat with a150 XL 2 stroke with the oiling removed. So I mix oil in my gas...lovely deal. Actually used it lot. Now rewiring the whole boat. Don't think I am going to reinstall the oiling system.

Great point! I just liked the convenience of not having to mix the gas and oil so i kept it installed.

I pulled the cap off on my Mercury xr6 to the 2cycle oil reserve and the alarm is not going off. Do you know if there is a delay? Yours seems to work instantly.

There should not be a delay, I would guess the buzzer is bad or the float is bad. Do you hear a beep when you move the ignition switch to start it?

did it loose power and go into limp mode?

No, this motor does not have an ECU. If you miss it, they run until they blow while the alarm is going off!
