Saving Pavo Pico - FPV 1.15km Accident Unplanned One Way Trip (4K)

- In this episode, we are flying in Port Moody over the water and along the Shoreline trail. Taking the sub 100g quads for a medium range test while catching the tail end of summer. Wind was pretty intense at the water outside of Rocky Point park so the test started at the east shore.
The pico maintained a smooth flight path while circling the bay just outside of the Shoreline Trail. Both O3 and ELRS was solid. The little quad got knocked around a bit by wind so it was difficult to gap in tighter spaces. Maybe I will try flying faster next time.
The wind dialed down a bit after the first test and we moved on to the beach at the Old Orchard park. Didn't bother to check the map before sending it! First battery was no good and the second one carried on. Flight was surprisingly smooth and speedy and the trouble began on its way back...

The picture looks a little hazy most likely caused by the BC interior forest fire, did my best to improve clarity. - Věda a technologie
I was nervous, too. I'm glad you could find the drone. :)
Haha I almost wet my pants while looking for a safe crash site. Thanks for watching and your comment!
Thanks for sharing and your honest feelings during that moment. Those last minute decisions are actually very worthy and a good lesson. You did an excellent job not to Freak out and just loose it!
Thank you very much LarsEchterhoff! I couldn't afford to lose all the footages I including this very important journey so I had to be creative. Definitely a lesson learned!
Nice Flying!! Thanks For the Vid, I was freaking out myself being the Pavo Pivo pilot myself, Enjoy the Skies!!!
Lol thanks for watching! My legs were shaking badly hahaha
haha amazing rescue, and a chance you got it back
Thank you very much for watching! And thank you spiky bush!
What an epic trip!!!
Indeed! I should have brought another pair of pants
I can imagine one's heart racing at something crazy lol.
@@flyingpudding
@@JonFloFPV definitely worst than any races unless it's over water lol
Awesome, got my heart rate up just watching the video, nearly lost mine in the water when it had some kind of ‘freak out' fortunately recovered just in time. Been tempted to de case to gain an extra few seconds flight time. Great editing and thanks for sharing
Congrats on recovering your quad! Unless you have to stay below 100g, it is better to keep the O3 stock for heat dissipation performance and protection.
Thank you for watching and happy flying!
@@flyingpudding I added a buzzer to mine, very useful even if it adds a few grams.
What is de casing?
Whew!! That was a good video and a good save haha! But I really felt like you would of made it back across lake!
Thanks for watching and your comment! I am not too sure as it was headwind on the way back and you can tell it flew much slower with higher throttle. The Tattu 2s 450 HV dips very quickly after reaching 3.4v per cell and it could very likely end up in the water at some point. Anyway a big lesson learned and a great story to tell. Happy flying!
Oooh yea 2s against wind would have been trouble returning, I didn't think about the wind! 🤭@@flyingpudding
hahaha gotta account for wind for too! nice save
Thanks for watching! Lol yeah I was really lucky. FYI a new video is coming up soon, stay tuned!
I probably shouldn't say this, but it was fun🙆♂ nice vid as always
lol I was indeed terrifying and fun. Thanks for watching!
You're too brave🙌🏽🙌🏽. Nice video
I know I should have checked the map first lol.
Thank you very much for watching!
Oh man... Great recovery!!! 👍
Thank you very much for watching!
woww this is so well edited, what an experience for sure!!
Thank you for watching and your comment! Look forward to seeing you in the next episode 😉
Nice little story!
Thanks for watching and I am glad that you enjoyed it.
I would have never done it if I checked the map before sending...😂
Wow Epic Footage and Recovery !!!
Which Elrs settings did you use ? (mW and hz)
Thank you very much for watching! I was using the Betafpv TX 2.4 Nano ELRS module on 100mw and 250hz in the video. I have already switched to the SuperG Nano TX for a couple months and will do a review video later. Link in case you are interested: betafpv.com/products/superg-nano-transmitter?sca_ref=4876818.Cm1t8sbCQc
*Long range FPV tip : fly out against the wind, not with it*
Thanks for watching and you are so right 👍
Nice flight and beautiful scenery 👍🏼

cool video, i will have to play around with my pavo20 to see the range before flying over water like that haha. I wonder if the videoTX 03 air system will go out first, or the transmitter signal at 1w, also given some kind of non-LOS/trees/buildings in between
Thanks for watching! I do have an O3 on the pico and both the video stream and RC link were OK even at beyond 1km, although mostly nothing but water in between. The only limiting factor is the battery 😅
Impressive range on the little guy! Especially when getting low coming in to land.
Indeed and that was unplanned! The rx performs much better than I expected.
@@flyingpudding I have the Mobula 8 O3, I wonder how that would compare on the elrs range 🤔
@@BMFPV only one way to find out... 😂 no just kidding. There are much better and safer ways.
@@flyingpudding Ha ha, maybe over dry land first 👍
I had a prop fly off or explode or something on a GepRC Cinelog20 over a river and never saw it again. Flying over water is a high-risk/high-reward endeavor. I don't think I'll ever get over watching on that crazy spin toward the water. It took me a little while to trust myself and gear to fly over water again but in the end, I'm in it for the experience and the footage and some of the more fun and best footage is over bodies of water. I've had many situations like yours where I wasn't sure until I found it that I'd ever see the quad again. It's a great feeling. I usually pack up after that and go home feeling like I won and lived to fly another day.
Totally! No pain no gain haha
I think pusher config is more resilient than traditional 😉
Awesome😀!
Thank you very much for watching!
Please, do not repeat the trip in that way 😂😂😂, nice video 👍 I'm thinking about pavopico now so tiny and so good.
My legs are still shaking when viewing the video lol. Thank you very much for watching and happy flying!
That was a good
Laugh nice video 😂👍🏻
Thanks for watching and I am happy that you enjoyed it ☺️
More build up tension than some shitty B-movies could achieve. Great job!
Thank you very much for watching and your comment!
amazing dude :)
Thank you very much for watching!
lucky to find back. As the device is very small.
Thank you for watching! Yes, I was really lucky 😊
Great job! I hate losing expensive quads like my fly woo explorer 03 in a lake/or an island. The latency still doesn’t reveal the crash site entirely accurate, even with the 03
Thanks for watching and i am sorry to hear about your loss. I thought the DVR should provide a fairly good idea? At least that's how i recovered mine.
That's the reason why you should activate the consumed mAh of the battery in the OSD.
Thanks for watching and good idea!
Nice Video, but i think you overrreacted a bit at 7.54 your lipo is still nearly have full :D
It is also measured under load so once landed it will go up quite a bit.
But i also understand it, i also once panicked flying over a lake, where i could not find my way back home :DDD
1000 thoughts come in your head at that time
Thanks for watching! The tattu 450 95C pack that i used in the video does not sag much until it reaches 3.4v per cell, after that it drops like a rock and that's what I worried about.
Great video, but that color grade... Someone discovered the Vibrance slider. :P
Thanks for watching! It was a hazy day and I was playingbwith grading a lot hopefully to get a clearer picture - might have overdone a bit haha
What batteries do you have because I have it and I get a little more than two minutes of flight time and with what station to have so much range, good video
Thanks for your comment! You will need very good lipo, preferably HV, for the pico. I have used Tattu 450 95C, Coddar 500 100C, and recently GNB 530. Its also best to use bi-prop to keep the current draw down. Happy flying!
@@flyingpudding Thank you for answering and what station do you have? I have the Master Zorro radio and I have never been able to go that far.
@@risketofpv2605 My TX is FrSky X-lite and it was connected to the Betafpv ELRS Nano TX. I have already migrated to their SuperG nano and will be reviewing the new Nano TX v2 later.
@@flyingpudding thank you so much
Ciao video molto bello quali eliche bipala usi ?👏👏👏
Grazie per la visione! Utilizzo le eliche bi-pala ufficiali di Gemfan. betafpv.com/products/gemfan-45mm-2-blade-3-blade-propellers-1-5mm-albero-4pcs
@@flyingpudding 👍grazie
Risky guy 😂 flying that tiny drone over that waters your glad got it back
Sometimes irrationality brings creativity and surprises lol
@@flyingpudding but that creativity sometimes could be very costly
@@Slv- True. This video would look very different if I remembered to check the map before sending it 😅
What receiver protocol are you using???
Thank you for watching! I use the built-in ELRS receiver on the Pavo Pico AIO board, thus Crossfire protocol in Betaflight.
Woohoo 🤣
Wheeeee lol! Thanks for watching.
Nice recover by any chance can you provide your pid tune , esc tune, rates, battery use and best fly time I love my pavo pico but Im having issues with fly time only 2 minutes no matter what battery i use from 450mah al way to 850mah still getting 2 minutes fly time and the quad always fly over 49% Throtlle to cruise for me it sound to high in rpm all the time in order to maintain a steady cruising. Maybe my esc tune is bad or the pid tune is off. If you can peovide your tune that will help a lot
Thanks for watching!
Fyi I am using default PIDs and you may check out my last video here czcams.com/video/1uxIVp36AEQ/video.html
Concerning flight time, 3-blade props pull a lot of amp for our 2s lipo so switch to bi-blade if you could. Another thing is the lipo itself. Try using lipos with high C rating such as the Tattu 2s 95C 450mah or Coddar 100C 500mah 2s while keeping the all up weight (AUW) in the envelope at around 100g or lower.
My take off and hover throttle level is at about 33% with the bi-blade props. Good luck and post your mileage here!
@@flyingpudding do you have a link to bi pal propellers? Is it with the stock engines? You gain a lot with the two blades? Thank you. I really love your video
@@helititan74 betafpv.com/products/gemfan-45mm-2-blade-3-blade-propellers-1-5mm-shaft-4pcs
I am very happy that you enjoyed my video, look forward to seeing you in the next video 😊
@@flyingpudding thanks so lot my friend . you get 3 minutes of freestyle flying? otherwise in cruising mode how many are you? you don't want to put the naked o3 on it with a 750 mah lipo, we manage to get between 5 and 6 minutes of flight, it's so cool.
@@helititan74 In a previous video czcams.com/video/bNtRDmL98XA/video.html I tested that close to 4 minutes is possible with a good lipo. But you need to be very careful with the hv because voltage would drop very rapidly when under 6.7-6.8v and you may not have time to fly back and land. 3:15-3:30 should be safe with some juice left.
hahahaha awesome!
Lol 😆 thanks for watching!
👍👍👍💪
Thank you very much for watching!
yours are made of brass and definitely not pudding
Lol thanks, brass pudding!
