TMJ Joint dysfunctions usually present as clicking, popping,
locking and pain when you open, close or bite with your mouth.
These symptoms can be caused by:
    1) Disc problem involving laxity of the TM ligament and the rehab is more complicated
    2) Alignment/ Tracking dysfunction - more common cause of TMJ Problems.
I would suggest you see a health care professional to provide the proper diagnosis and identify the problems.
In general, you want to maintain a good posture but squeezing your shoulder blades back and tuck back your chin ( Neck and scapular retractions).
    The exercises consist of:
    1) Setting a good posture and position for the TMJ
    2) Controlled tracking in opening and closing of your mouth by keeping the top and bottom teeth aligned while you keep the tongue at the back of your front teeth.
3)Isometric resistance to side shift ( lateral deviation) of your jaw. I would emphasize the muscles on the opposite side of your deviation. ( So if your jaw shifts to the right side when you open, then work harder on the left side of your jaw muscles by pushing with the left thumb towards the right side and resist this motion)
Remember to do these exercises gently and in a very controlled manner without excessive force. Quality of tracking and strengthening is very important.
Rocabado 6 x 6 Exercises are well known for TMJ dysfunctions. I have included them as a reference.
