Lol you lost the argument when you picked injured riddle cp3
u can't compare John to Chris because John is 100% better
@@chumchumlol Why not??He is by far better in playoff then Stockton..And 80 era wass faster pace general so Cp3 is better..
@@dragondragon5437 lol CP3 had to join the rockets just to make it to the WCF. They may have made it to the finals... Oh that's right cp3 was hurt again. Actually where is CP3 right now? Oh hurt again.
CP3 is better than John Stockton at collecting a paycheck from sitting on the bench in street clothes.

ML10040311 yeah i was just thinking about this and started looking for this comment
Scrolled down for this. Left happy.
7:13 HAHAHA
Just one if the many fuck ups this idiot makes: Stockton js the better player. End if story. If he had jumped around to better teams like CP3, he would have actually won a few rings. Stats are everything in this debate since they play in different era’s. Stockton has two records that will not be broken for at least another 15 years, and thats only if a player comes ariound that mimics his entire play style. Stockton is the better player, period end of story. Anyone that says otherwise is being biased against the unpopular Jazz player.
The best ability is availability.. so i am going with John Stockton
Samuel Robles lol
This might be the best point in comment section. How could you not pick a player that played so hard, yet could not be injured.
God WestBrick CP3 > Lurry
Correct. Even though CP3 is great, he got injured many times and in the playoff too. So, if you're not on the court, you can't help the team.
Arson Hakobyan, game 7 of the western finals.
I just realized Chris Paul and Blake Griffin are the weak versions of Stockton and Malone. lol
Lord Penguin good one lol
Foreal tho and there even more athletic and didn't do shit.. I'll choose stockton
Lord Penguin the poor man's version
fatdudeswag404 except stockton and malone has more iq and chemistry 😂
Or a better version of Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp...

Magic said himself that every point guard should watch John Stockton and try and be like him. Enough said.
You mean don't dribble with your off hand?
I think it’s insulting to make the comparison. John Stockton easily. No contest or debate.
Trent Irwin Making the comparison isn't the problem. It's just making it into an argument of who's better that makes it a problem. Stockton was as pure as a point guard gets, but CP3 is the last of the dying breed for pass first playmakers and ran a lot of plays from the mid-range, so I can see where comparisons arise.
Trent Irwin it’s not embarrassing stop it kid.
Trent Irwin it’s not insulting. It’s more insulting of your part to devaluate a legend like Chris Paul like that
@@alejandromarmolejo13 Chris Paul doesnt even come close to John Stockton. Like there is no comparison. John Stockton is clearly the better point guard.
John Stockton had no handles
Gary Payton said Stock was harder to guard than Michael Jordan. cp3 is a beast, but he'll never touch John Stockton
Its hard to guard because no one wants to help def because of Malone and the pick roll almost all ways leaves him open
@@Coldskin1 No, because Stockton can litteraly make everything. A great pass or a shoot if you don't pay attention or drive to the bucket.

John led his team in 19 playoffs appearances and 2 finals appearance. Also Stockton is NBA all time assist and steals leader by a mile.
Rex Giacomo Guianan by 100 miles
Arson Hakobyan have you seen how many games Stockton missed in his career. The answer is 22. He was 1502/1524. You don’t even want to know how many games CP3 has missed. Also I assume you’re saying he’d beat Stockton 1 v 1 and not 5 v 5, because every hall of famer would pick Stockton over CP3 at PG 9/10 times.
G Money How’d you know they’d pick Stockton? You asked them 1 by 1? CP3 isn’t bad himself, with what he shown in his career he can be put into the debate of the GOAT PGs that ever played. I personally think Stockton is better, but it’d be better to construct your arguments without bringing down the other. You’re disrespecting what Paul has done in the league as if you really know who every HOF would pick. And if ever they did ofc more would pick Stockton since some played with him.
he is also one of the most efficient players in history, due to efficiency ratings on nba alltime stats. just for comparison, bryant is one of the worst efficient, like westbrook
He was overall a better defender better passer and better shooter you can argue he’s just as efficient as Chris Paul
Chris Paul isn't worthy of being mentioned when it comes to John Stockton. John Stockton is the best point guard to ever play basketball ever. John Stockton's records will never be broken.
False
Stockton isn’t better then
Magic Johnson
Steph Curry
Oscar Robertson
Jerry West

That's hilarious.... John Stockton any day of the week that ends in the letter y. All-Time career record in assists AND steals! He has also found way more success in the Playoffs, reaching the NBA Finals TWICE! Stockton is way too underrated, if he played somewhere besides Utah, he would be known as the greatest point guard ever!
Zeke said Stockton would've been even better in a more free form offense than the pick and role heavy Utah offense. Granted Isaiah hates Karl Malone and that might be a dig on Karl but Isaiah doesn't give out praise lightly (if at all). One other thing is CP3 is considered a bit of an asshole in the league (just ask Rondo). Plus he's wound so tight he fails in the clutch too often for my taste
Stockton has a reserved personality, just about that, the people doesn't consider him as one of the all time greats.
Stockton have a losing record in the Playoffs you Know that
1. Stockton played in the handchecking era when it was easier to get steals.
2. CP3 never had Karl Malone for almost 20 years. At best he had Blake Griffin who is nothing compared to the mailman.
3. CP3 has one of the most sauce of all time and Stockton has trash skills. Stockton never finishes with his left hand, even when going left. Find me a clip of him using his left hand and I'll give a $100.
@@billiondollarbull ur a hack lol

LOL
Not to discredit John but what u think chris paul would of did with that jazz team
JD C lmao imagine putting CP3 in the 90s. He would average 25 and 15. 90s west doesn’t nowhere NEAR CLOSE to the west today.
@@bcuno Stockton played in their primes at one point or another - Magic Johnson, Gary Payton, Jason Kidd, Kevin Johnson, Tim Hardaway in the West. Penny Hardaway, Mark Price, Allen Iverson, Isiah Thomas, Dennis Johnson in the East. The player he played the most games against in his career was Hakeem Olajuwon - the All-Time Leader In Blocked Shots. Chris Paul would be crying for his mama every night.
Newmans_Own you gotta remember that everyone today is better. A lot of what Chris Paul does today would’ve been an anomaly back then, as bball said the point guards weren’t as developed in moves and roles as they were today. Chris proves ly would’ve done better since the importance of centers and point guards switched between the 2 eras, as well as the skill levels required
Just to note John stockton wasnt even an allstar when they made it to the final by 34 he was out of his prime. Just think if malone had chris paul from this year
Stockton's longevity and lack of injuries is amazing.
that's another thing that makes stockton better than paul which i didnt think about stockton always played like 80 or 81 or 82 games every year whereas paul never played 82 games pretty much.
@@lukejbarnett1bro he didn’t do anything but pass how could he get hurt. CP3 was a scorer AND passer it’s no debate.

Google 80's basketball. In fact, google basketball.
Malone tells the story of when a trainer refused to set Stockton's broken leg, so he did it himself. Tough as nails.
Stockton easily. Great passer and had a solid 3pt shot. His defense was top notch and he played hard every single minute. No attitude, just wanted to win.
He was hard to play against. Guys around the league hated him. Cp3 is nice but Stockton is better.
CP3 defence is better, he's already made way more all defensive teams but gotta go with John because CP3 never been to Conference finals
Ujjal Ray Defensive teams are overrated. Based more on popularity most of the time.
Paul won't match Stocktons assists numbers or steals.
Ujjal Ray cp3 is overrated trash
CP3 a better defender than stockton, also is right up with him in passing and 3pt, while taking better care of the ball
All of those things could describe cp3 too.
There's absolutely no way anyone can be compared to Stockton. he is by far the best point guard of all time. his assists total will never be broken. his steals, maybe. but no one will come close to assists. Stockton played 19 years and only missed a handful of games. his toughness cannot be challenged and knowing how long he played, in a league that had more physical contact allowed back then, being the size he was and going up against arguably the best era of basketball players the NBA has ever seen, he is by far the greatest point guard to ever play the game.
that's what also sets Stockton apart: his toughness. He can screen mammoth players and just shut them down. And if he falls, he never complains. He bounces right back up and continues with the game. I even think he's the GOAT.
CP3 is really good, but Stockton get's my vote
Shawn Bradley what?
1738647 agreed
John Stockton is much better. Chris Paul likes to keep the ball in hands for 18s and do a solo play then. John was more like a commander. He always knew what to do and was so effective.
"Chris Paul likes to keep the ball in hands for 18s and do a solo play then."
Glad you brought this up. Give me Stockton.
This is not true.
Gas you had fun watching CP3 highlights.
You clearly have 0 clue or idea of what you're talking about. This is false, and you are stupid.
That's BS man u dont have to diss CP3 to justify Stockton greatness CP3 feeds his team also that's y he averaged almost 10assist n his career per game.
Stockton no doubt, go watch the vid " The most underrated career in NBA history" by SWISHOUT

What a joke....Stockton is so much better
Dominic dominic Chill out stockton was good but co3 bette
Dominic dominic he relied on the whole team! He was a point gaurd. Weak players he went up against Gary Payton, Vernon maxwell, Kevin Johnson, Kenny Smith,Tim hardaway, terry porter, all in the West! Rock solid my dude. Sure the game has evolved, but for people to say players was weak in the 90’s is bullshit. I believe the this generation says it because they heard somewhere else, but they really don’t know for themselves.
John Stockton really is clearly ahead.
If you say otherwise.....then you are either 12, or just have no knowledge of Basketball outside of the current era.
Dominic dominic and who did Paul face? 90’s are better than 00’s. Chris Paul’s career is almost over and he doesn’t lead assists
Lem dude stfu stockton leads in steals and assist he's better than Chris paul
Stockton>CP3. The only reason Stockton doesn't have a ring is because he ran into the GOAT for 2 straight NBA Finals. I love CP3 but he choked in 3 straight years in the playoffs. in 2013 the clippers were up 2-0 against the grizzlies and lost the next 4 games. in 2014 in game 5 against the thunder, the clippers were up 7 with 49 seconds left and CP3 had 2 straight turnovers before fouling Westbrook on a 3 that cost them the game and the series. in 2015 the clippers were up 3-1 against the rockets and blew the series. Now the warriors are too good and his chance to get to the finals are over but he had his chances and he blew them.
Chris Paul didn't lose in those series', the Clippers did. Basketball is team game if you didn't know
The Notorious G.T.M. Is it a team game when players negotiate their contracts??? I didn't think so. CP3 got paid max dollars to make a difference and the clippers still have never been to a conference finals. He deserves to be blamed.
Rob Tes so doesn't John Stockton need to be blamed by losing in the finals? And is everybody perfect? I see what you are saying bc you are right, Chris Paul should take the blame, but not all of it. Against the rockets, doc rivers drained the starters out and the bench could not provide anything. A quote by Isiah Thomas about game 6 of the finals when the jazz faced the bulls for the second straight year, "I believe that if John Stockton does not pass that ball to Karl Malone with 30 seconds left, they win that game." Many players believed that John Stockton passed too much to a fault bc John Stockton had the ability to score, but he would cost his teams by passing it too much. Both players share this characteristic that hinders their team.
+Rob Tes He did make a difference what the hell are you talking about. CP3 is the one who made the Clippers relevant again. And yes CP3 deserves blame but so does everybody else on the TEAM capisce?
Leon Tran No player is perfect but even if Stockton doesn't make that pass and they win Game 6 they would still need to win Game 7. My point about CP3 is that his teams were in position to win a series multiple times and he failed to capitalize. The responsibility and blame should primarily be on him.
John Stockton played against the greats and dominated... no mention to 24pts, 24assists and 5steals vs Lakers in 1988 playoffs at the forum? Chris Paul is said to be better because media needs audience... when he retires people will continue comparing the next big PG against Stockton not CP3...
Truth.
Forgiven Sinner 20/20/0
you could have easily said the first sentence with the starting two words to be "Chris Paul". And I also don't really believe in that people will compare upcoming PGs to Stockton like he's the first ever great PG. CP3 will be just as legendary when he retires and people will look back at this Point God.
Yeah do you realize how many of those assists were simple post entry passes? Stockton only had 3 years where he was winning a substantial amount of games in the playoffs for his team: and that was '96 through '98.
Daniel Alves You're an idiot
None of the stats you've used here account for pace. John Stockton's teams played at a relatively slow pace compared to Chris Paul's teams.
Per 100 possessions, Stockton scored 20+ points and had 17+ assists (peaking at 23 and 19.4, respectively) for 8 straight seasons. Chris Paul has never posted those numbers. Stockton did it for eight. straight. seasons.
Despite never getting a finals ring, Stockton saw more postseason success, while CP3 has never been out of the 2nd round of the playoffs.
lol what? you wanna talk about PER 100 POSSESIONS?
yeah CP3 ONLY had:
32ppg and 16apg in 2009
30ppg and 16apg in 2008
30ppg and 15apg in 2016
29ppg and 14 apg in 2017
27ppg and 15 apg in 2014
27ppg and 15apg in 2013
etc.
So what would people rather have?
32/16 or 23/19?? lmao the answer is clear
DONT TALK SHIT IF YOU DONT KNOW SHIT
32/16 IS BETTER THAN 23/19 IF YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT SHIT LIKE "PER 100 POSESSIONS" LOL
@@anakovacevic6755 Wanna talk about 20010-2012 and 2017-2022 lol? John Stockton put up his 20/17 up every single year of his career not just half of them
Is this even a question??? It's blasphemous to even compare Chris Paul to John Stockton. Paul is not even close. Stockton is the greatest point guard ever!
Not only is Chris Paul better but so is magic isiah Oscar curry, hell even kyrie won a ring as a second option. John is a ringless second option
Kyrie stats barely even better than an system like nash🤦 all he does is score but good enough for an superstar like AI not only that he been missing a hell lot of playoffs games lately iam take an hard pass. Should of said damian liilard

P
Stoked status: 100% Same.
What kind of total moron could put Paul over Stockton?
Because Chris Paul is very fucking good at basketball
Honestly he probably is. Isiah Thomas lucked onto being the centerpiece of his era's warriors. He was the best played on the best team for their chip runs and early in their formation. Paul's the more efficient player, the better defender, the better passer, and noticeably better at taking care off the rock.
They also drafted Kelly Tripuka who helped carry the scoring load. They traded for Vinnie Johnson and Bill Laimbeer by the next year because their old team had a bunch of solidish assets. (Essentially his team getting a Klay and Draymond before trading for an Iggy. Daly was hired after the new unit showed potential (hiring Kerr) and the team took off. They then jettisoned the solid wing they drafted for a multi-time scoring champion (Dantley/Durant). Except in his case his team kept adding more pieces building up a rotation that's comfortably 8-9 deep.
All time assist leader, all time leader in steals, John Stockton for sure!
I go with John Stockton, knowing you can count on him when the going gets tough and won't let emotion gets in the way.
Exactly. Some players have that something about them that you can trust when the time calls for it..... that's John Stockton. A mentally fragile player like Chris Paul will always choke come crunch time. You just know these sort of things if you are in-tuned with sporting competitions.

However, this arising belief that CP3 is overrated and people beginning to believe that CP is not an all time top 5 point guard is extremely ludicrous. Thank you, for bringing to light the overlooked aspects of CP3's game that the casual fan refuses to recognize. This was my favorite video ever.
U watched him in person in 2003 when he was trash
Chris Paul is slightly better individually, but if you are building a team of 8 to 12 players, you have to go with Stockton. He’ll make any team that much better. Steph Curry is a tier above both of them though.
grapplerke u could make that argument but i think in today’s game Stockton is gonna let it fly and get to the basket at any time as well as mid range shots it’s system because he fed it to Malone so much and point guards nowadays have more room to operate

Payton told Earl Watson to refer to him as "Mr. Stockton." He was also told him that he was privileged to play against the Jazz legend.
Since 2000, every Western Conference team has made the WCF except New Orleans and the Clippers. Do you still think CP3 is better?

In the end, I think Stockton's longevity wins out. If you have to pick player for a single game, you could take Paul, but for a career, it's Stockton by a long shot.
Hi, I'm Magic Johnson, the actual best point guard of all time. If you'd like to call me up to apologize, I'm at Laker headquarters, trying to fix Jimmy Buss's mess. Leave a message with Jeannie.
Magic was an all around player also...and point guard is the only position Stockton played. So Stockton is the best pure point guard.
"Yes Hello, Magic? In regard to your request we have declined your offer but what we can do is offer you a John Stockton play by play video tape on how your improve your game. Have a nice day"
this shouldn't even be a discussion... if it wasn't for MJ Bulls John Stockton would have at least 2 rings... Guy was on the dream team the greatest team ever assembled.. and in my opinion Cp3 wouldn't have made the team
Bruh whattt ???? Are u drunk
Dumbtard
Always Stockton. Both great players. But i would choose John Stockton every time.
This shouldn't even be a question, Stockton has the most assists and steals by a mile and has actually got out of the second round. Smh
Minirush35 Well Stockton also had a better team and had the mail man. CP3 has the fifth highest PER in NBA history behind only Jordan, lebron, mikan and Shaq. So don't say he doesn't show up in the playoffs because he actually elevates his game. He's also number 1 all time in offensive rating and win shares per game so he clearly knows how to run an offense and carry a team. CP3 never had the luxury of playing alongside Malone and had to always do it with underachieving teammates. Put Stockton on the teams that cp3 was on and he wouldn't even sniff the WCF because he would have to carry the load and score a lot more. I mean cp3 just averaged 27 and 10 on 50/40/90 shooting and they still lost ffs. What else can the man do?!!
xxman26utdxx I'm pretty sure CP3's Clippers team have a lot better squad on paper than the Jazz ever did. I mean Blake, DeAndre, Redick, Crawford etc is a lot better than Karl Malone, Brian Roberts and Jeff Hornacek. Plus Stockton was actually a good scorer, just watch the episode of Open Court where Isiah Thomas one of the greatest pgs ever says they preferred it when Stockton passed as he could score really well. At the end of the day Stockton performed in the big moments like when he hit the game winner against Houston in the WCF. CP3 simply hasn't, look at the 3-1 lead they blew against Houston a few years ago
Minirush35 Scoring really well while picking your spots isn't the same as scoring consistently all game long. Stockton couldn't go out and give you 25+ all series long.
What I'm saying is CP3 is the better player but Stockton has had the better career of the two.
The Clippers have been unlucky for sure, but you can't blame their failures just on luck. CP3 has to take some of the blame
Minirush35 Chris Paul would a ring if he had Karl Malone easy
WTF BRO!!!!!! CHRIS PAUL IM LAUGHING😂😂😂😂STOCKTON ALL THE WAY BRO
Stockton is better. No question about it, top 3 point guard of all time
Uneducated kids Will Say Paul...But People who really knows the NBA Stockton for sure

no contest by a wide margin: STOCKTON over CP3
Awesome video man. Only correction I feel obligated to point out is that the Stockton/Malone Jazz actually made it to 5 conference finals, not 3.
One word: Stockton. More steals and more assists all-time than any player in NBA History. One of the 50 all-time greatest players in the history of the game. 19 years with Jazz.
My two favorite PGs but I would choose Stockton over Paul simply because he was more durable and had a healthier career.
Is this actually a debate? Stockton. Hands down. No contest.
Stockton no question. CP3 is very good but Stockton was a legend through the end of his career. Hope CP3 gets healthy and finishes his career on the upswing though!
I think because of his lack of post season success people underestimate how good CP3's legacy is. As a Clipper fan I can tell you that outside of Game 5 Vs OKC he has never let us down. He's having maybe his best series ever against the Jazz right now. The people who have let us down have been DJ, Blake in the 4th quarter, Jamal and JJ.
I think his legacy is under rated but his skills as a player is. This is what happens when people make everything about a ring.
Spoke too soon. His 7th game performance was nothing to write home about.
he is a terrible playoff player
Great Value Bleach, is his regular season play terrible? It must be, given that his postseason numbers are much better in almost every way than his regular season numbers.
Diver, that wasn't a great performance but when you have no co-star (DJ showed up in fairness) it's easy for the defense to focus on Paul and dare somebody else to step up. Nobody else did. Nobody else is capable of doing so, either. JJ is a no-show come playoff time. Jamal as well.
If I had to try to construct the "perfect team" John Stockton would be my PG.
You ruined my night I hate how people don't understand that Stockton is actually REALLY good I mean he's the second best point guard ever
Who's the first then?
OBG Jay Magic Johnson
He's not better than Chris Paul
dan t Not better than CP3? I'm sorry but Stockton is better.
CP3 chokes in clutch moments, while Stockton carried his team at important events. End of discussion
I watched Stockton growing up. The game was much more physically demanding back then. He was a pit bull out there. Fundamentals and defense that few could match. CP3 is a very good player. But I’m sorry he doesn’t stack up to Stockton. If Stockton wanted to he could have scored much more than he did. I got to give it to Stockton.
@3:33 "dribbling skills hadn't evolved yet"
You mean players weren't allow to CARRY the ball like they do in modern nba. So it actually required MORE SKILLS to dribble the ball because it was more strict. I admit it's more enteirtaining today but not because players are more skilled. If anything, it's the opposite.
@5:23
More space to get to the hoop once you beat your defender in Stockton era??? You gotta be KIDDING!!! The paint was always CLOSED in Stockton era and it's always WIDE OPEN in modern nba.
The main difference in terms of scoring is that Stockton played long after his prime and it took him 3 years to become a great player. In terms of steals, CP3 numbers will also go down as the years go by. Same for his assist/TO ratio. It would have been more interresting to look at their numbers both in their prime.
Defensively, CP3 is great, no doubt about it but so was Stockton. The main difference is that there were many many more great defenders in Stockton era which makes him go unnoticed.
I love both players...so I won't say much. But one thing for sure, if the Jazz of Stockton had to face the Clippers of CP3, they would eat them alive.
great great points megadrive!!!! you know your basketball!
Didn't have zone in Stockton's era and defensive 3 second violations were actually called. A lot more open.
Back then there centres were used to control the paint, compared to today's who also have to focus on the perimeter
the game is so much different tho,nba teams realized how important the 3 pointer is,shooting 33% from 3 is the same as shooting 50% from inside and so the game opened up and players had to evolve, the defense is good at todays nba as well but its more team defense than individual one, remember that back then hand cheching was allowed
No, they didn't carry the ball back then. You have the impression that ball handling is better because in modern nba, players are allow to carry the ball. Which is a lot more easier to do than playing under the rules of the 90's. It started in the late 90's and early 2000's with Iverson, Kobe, Marbury and all those guys. That's the moment when the league started to allow players ta carry the ball.
Zone has always been used in the nba, it just wasn't official. Plus, today zone defense is almost never used. And on top of that zones today are not even true zones, thanks to the addition of the defensive 3 seconds rule. This prevents bigs from camping out in the lane to be an imposing defensive presence or rim protector like it used to be in Stockton era. Furthermore, zones in Stockton's days were still enhanced by handchecking and physical play. Not only did Stockton faced zones in his era, but the zones that he faced were more difficult, physical, and complex than the zones of today that are weakened by the multitude of rule changes and illegal 3 seconds rule.
But we don't have to complicate this subject. The fact is when you watch games of the 80's/90's, the paint is always PACKED. When you watch today's games, the paint is always WIDE OPEN and almost everybody can get into the paint AT WILL.
That's why Kobe Bryant hilmself said : " "The truth is, it makes the game [where] players have to be more skillful. Nowadays, literally anybody can get out there and get to the basket and you can't touch anybody. Back then, if guys put their hands on you, you had to have the skill to be able to go both ways, change direction, post up, you had to have a mid-range game because you didn't want to go all the way to the basket because you would get knocked ass over tea kettle. So I think playing the game back then required MUCH MORE SKILL."
the tittle says "BETTER POINT GUARD" a point guard is an a court leader, basically a coach on the floor. They're supposed to run the offensive not score like Curry or Westbrook. The question is who's a better Point Guard, that answer is Stockton but better player is Paul. I rather take Stockton and he is the better POINT GUARD
Stockton is by far a better player
John Stockton, without question.
Longevity/Health, records, Dream Team, toughness.
the ball handling skills have evolved over time....also the traveling violation
Body of work is all I can say. Stockton is first all time in assists and steals, and no one in the league is going to catch him anytime soon.
but was the western conference back then not a blood bath as well?
If you play 9 of 13 career playoff series in the first round (don't have to maintain stats for longer playoff runs) and never faced a Finals/Title caliber team (easier competition), you better have good playoff statistics at the bare minimum. Any top 15 PG of all-time will have similar or better playoff statistics in Chris Paul's shoes
*Rod Strickland 1994 - 1997 Playoffs*
21.7 ppg - 5.1 rpg - 9.5 apg
2.9 TOpg - 45% FG
*Chris Paul 2008 - 2017 Playoffs*
21.4 ppg - 4.7 rpg - 9.4 apg
2.7 TOpg - 48% FG
1994 - 1997 Strickland faced 2 championship teams to CP3's 0 Finals/Title teams. Averaged more PPG, RPG, APG on less efficiency and slightly more TOpg. Obviously CP3 maintained his stats for a longer time so he's better, but the point is the same that it's much easier to put up big playoff stats in CP3's ideal circumstances.

*Prime Stockton in playoffs that only lasted 1-2 rounds*
1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1995
18.2 PPG - 3.7 RPG - 13.4 APG
2.45 SPG - 0.29 BPG - 3.5 TOpg
49% FG - 83% FT
3.80 AST:TO ratio
Lost to 2 Title teams (88 Lakers, 95 Rockets)
Had Stockton had the statistical luxury that CP3 does, of playing only in 1-2 round playoffs in his prime, he'd have the highest playoff APG by a comfortable margin. 13.4 APG to Magic's 12.3 APG. Also would have the highest playoff SPG average, 2.45 to Baron Davis' 2.28.
*Chris Paul playoff career 2008 - 2017* (All Runs lasted only 1-2 rounds)
21.4 PPG - 4.7 RPG - 9.4 APG
2.21 SPG - 0.09 BPG - 2.7 TOpg
48% FG - 85% FT
3.45 AST:TO ratio
Lost to 0 Finals/Title teams
Stockton's assist advantage (+4.0) is much greater than any of CP3's advantages combined (+3.2 PPG, +1.0 RPG, -0.8 TOpg) since it accounts for at least an 8 PPG advantage
CP3 isn't even half as good as Kevin Johnson, so there's no chance of comparing him to John Stockton.
*Kevin Johnson's Playoff records*
1. NBA records for most playoff runs (ppg-apg) of
- 20-8 past the 1st Round (5)
- 21-8 past the 1st Round (5)
- 20-9 past the 1st Round (5)
- 21-9 past the 1st Round (5)

- 23-10 past the 1st Round (2)
- 22-11 past the 1st Round (2)
- 23-11 past the 1st Round (2)
2. Only player to average
- 22-12 or 23-12 in a playoff run past the 2nd round
3. 2nd all-time, behind Magic Johnson, in playoff runs (ppg-apg) of
- 20-10 past the 1st Round (3)
- 21-10 past the 1st Round (2)
- 21-11 past the 1st Round (2)
- 20-9 past the 2nd round (2) - Tied with Nash
- 21-9 past the 2nd round (2)
- 20-10 past the 2nd round (2) - Tied with Nash
- 21-10 past the 2nd round (2)
*Chris Paul's Playoff records*
1. Highest AST:TO ratio in a playoff run past the 1st round (min. 11 APG)
Other players have higher AST:TO ratios with less APG however
- Fat Lever - highest AST:TO ratio past 1st Rd (min. 3.5 APG)
- Johnny Moore - highest AST:TO ratio past 1st Rd (min. 8, 9, or 10 APG)
2. Tied-Most all-star teams (9) without passing the 2nd round with Dominique Wilkins
- however, Dominique lost to 2 championship teams (86 Celtics, 93 Bulls)
- CP3 has never faced a team that even made the Finals after beating him
3. Most playoff games (76) without reaching a Conference Finals
- despite the luxury of never having to face a Finals/Title team
Not only did KJ set a significantly higher number of playoff records than CP3, he did it against significantly better competition. KJ lost to 6 teams that either made the Finals or won it all. In each of KJ's playoff runs where he averaged those numbers under his list of records, he lost to either a Finals or Title team. CP3 faced 0 teams that even made the Finals after beating him, let alone win it all
KJ also played with lesser supporting casts than CP3 in his pre-Barkley years, and even when he had Barkley he played significantly better playoff competition regardless in 3 championship teams to CP3 facing 0 teams that even made the Finals.
Nobody Touches Jordan idk if you wrote this yourself or if you copied and paste but the whole cp3 hasn't played any championship teams or has all his stats against non competitive teams is BS. Just off the top of my head ( I'm sure there's PLENTY more that I'm forgetting) I know he played the reigning NBA champion Spurs team and beat them (and hit the game winner/series winner) in 2014 not only did he beat them he had amazing numbers in that run, also his series against a perennial championship CALIBER okc team he did the same, and he just played a Utah jazz team that was the number 2 rated defensive team in the entire league this year and still got his pretty easily he was almost at 50/40/90 with 25 ppg and 10 ast. Point being cp3 gets his numbers pretty easily which is a testament to him being a good player simple.
Playing a defending champion is not the same as facing an actual championship team. I am referring to facing a Finals/Title team in the same year that a player lost to them. The 2015 Spurs were the 6-seed and lost in the 1st round, then the Clippers lost to a Rockets team without Beverly that lost before making the Finals.
Only two seeds in history outside of the top 3 seeds have won a title, so the 2015 Spurs were not legitimate contenders regardless of their previous two seasons. as evidenced by losing to a Clippers team that lost to a non-Finals team
The 2014 Thunder also did not make the Finals that year they beat CP3, they lost before making the Finals. 2012 was the only year they made the Finals. So once again he lost to a non-Finals team
Utah was without Gobert for the first 3 games and Hayward was out for the last 3 quarters of Game 4 due to illness, so the Jazz were not at full strength for more than half the series. So Chris Paul only faced the Jazz's top ranked defense for less than half the series at full strength. And did nothing in the 2nd half of Game 7 when the stakes were highest.
John Wall is averaging 29-11 in these 2017 Playoffs on 50/36/83 shooting. Westbrook was previously the only player to average 26-11 in a playoffs past the 1st round, so Wall has a chance of setting a new record if he keeps up this play. His 2017 run thus far is way more impressive than anything CP3 has done in the playoffs.
Nobody Touches MJ I knew what you referring too I know the teams I mentioned didn't win chip I never said they did my point was that he did play championship CALIBER teams plenty of times throughout his career so my point still stands to have the notion that he never played anyone is stupid asf to me. Besides the whole basis of your argument seems stupid you know how many NBA players could have their stats "discredited" because they didn't play the champions that year???
Yea your right John wall has put up nice stats this post season slightly better than cp3s and for a larger amount of games but that has nothing to do with everything else I said above and doesn't change the similarly amazing stats cp has and has had.
And like I said those were only a couple I could think off of the top of my head I'm sure there are many more series we could discuss if I actually went and looked up the records and searched for the numbers
He's faced good teams, but never faced a true Finals/Title team so the point still stands. A Finals-caliber team is not the same as actually making the Finals or winning it all, with rare exceptions for weak conferences like the 2002 / 2003 Nets or 2007 Cavs.
"you know how many NBA players could have their stats "discredited" because they didn't play the champions that year??? "
But my point is not that CP3 did not face Finals/Title teams for one year, it's that he has never faced a Finals/Title team in his ENTIRE playoff career.
The only other notable player I can think of who faced 0 Finals/Title teams in his playoff career as a starter is Tracy McGrady. All the other notable players that made 0 Finals have lost to Finals/Title teams at least once.
Such as
- Nash
- Gervin
- English
- Gilmore
- Moncrief
- David Thompson
- Tim Hardaway
- Webber
- Bernard King - 0 ECF/WCF
- Dominque - 0 ECF/WCF
so CP3 and Tmac's cases are especially bad, because all the other non-Finals players played better competition (Finals/Title teams) and have more valid excuses. so once again, he deserves extra criticism for making 0 WCF (not even the Finals) while facing 0 Finals/Title teams in his entire career.
CP3's stats are not that amazing, because he's played 9 of 13 series in the 1st round and faced 0 Finals/Title teams. Rod Strickland from 1994-1997 put up better stats, with less help, and against better competition in 2 Title teams as posted in the first comment
Only thing Stockton does better than CP3 is staying injury free.
@Google Account that's a longevity stat, literally what I just said. Dude played with karl malone who averaged 30 for 20 years
@Google Account buddy played with karl malone, advanced stats show who's the superior talent and player. Stockton was never a top 10 player in the league or mvp candidate when he played. Keep mouthing off tho
@Google Account what are you on about, Stockton never finished top 7 in mvp voting. He was also the second option every year of his career. These are facts, using fancy adjectives like "historic" means shit all next to facts. You're such a bozo lmao, keep mouthing off, let's see what adjectives you'll use next.
@Google Account longevity? but who better at 36 cp3 or john stockton.
Stockton for now. CP3 can easily surpass him if he makes a career-changing move this off-season.
He should join Davis/Boogie !
Jack's Forehead hes gotta go to the spurs
that would be too easy of a move, he would never get enough credit for the spurs would-be success to grant him the status of being better than Stockton
or kawhi
Great idea
"Two words: Michael Jeffery Jordan".
I will say that if Chris Paul had a teammate who would go on to be 2nd all time in points scored he could probably be #1 in career assists. Unfortunately his assists have to come from difficult lobs to DeAndre Jordan or if he's lucky a healthy Blake Griffin.
Josh B this is a very good point. However, how do you know that it wasn't John Stockton that created Karl Malone's scoring. Because, in my opinion, Karl Malone benefited a lot from John Stockton. At the same time, I agree bc Chris Paul has never had that great of a player.
I mean, Karl Malone was a FANTASTIC post player and could score on anybody from the post. All it really took was a pass down low from Stockton and it was probably 2 points for Malone and an assist for John. Blake Griffin never developed a post game other than the occasional spin-move for a dunk, or a face-up jumper off the glass. However he usually eats clock when he's posted up with the ball and takes away assist credit for CP. And I think we all know how good DJ is as a post scorer... Lol.
Why do you think Malone got so many points?
Yes I agree that there is no denying how great of a post player and athlete Karl Malone was. However, he did have the benefit of playing with a john stockton like point guard. This means that Karl Malone does not have to use as much energy in possession. The Utah Jazz system was so dynamic with their pick and roll play. But in Chris Paul's situation, Chris Paul is everything for that team. People wouldn't usually say Doc Rivers is a great coach. Chris Paul makes other players look extremely better, just like John Stockton. The only difference I see between the two, is that Chris Paul could score whenever he wanted.
Josh B The reason Malone got his points is because of Stockton
Good video. I liked Stockton and now I remember why. Nice to see that comparison.
Who’s better?
Two words....John Houston Stockton.
Chris Paul is so underrated. I wasnt around when john played but Paul doesn't get enough credit for how great he truly is🔥💯
TR Elite Basketball who tf is stocken
Clamp God idk😭
cp3 is a point God.
atleast someone able to admit that he cant judge stockton because he wasnt around
Underrated? He's always praised as the best pure point guard in the league and as one of the best in history.
When in reality he never even reached the WCF despite having all the help he needed.
He is overrated if you ask me
karl malone was great because of john stockton
john stockton was great because of karl malone
Big Slatts John Stockton would have been equally as great without Karl Malone but you can’t say the same about Karl Malone without those assists from Stockton.
Stockton made Malone a superstar. No question.
Im going with John Stockton. Healthier, longevity, and can take it away on a consistent basis
How is this even a debate? CP3 Is not even a top 3 PG OF ALL TIME 🤔
Stockton too tho
Bruh
"2 words: Michael Jeffery Jordan"
Definitely Stockton. Stockton stood up for Malone during clutch moments when the Mailman was cold.
Nice video, but I would edit out the comment about it being easier to get to the hoop after beating your opponent in Stockton's era (because of the illegal defense rule). Contemporary game is much more wide open to the basket because of the spacing, the (much more effective deterrent) fear of getting called for flagrants, the disappearance of the carry and travelling calls, and the rules that now all but rule out any physical contact with the ball handler. Watch a few of those games and notice how crowded the paint was and how the PG would get clawed and hammered on the way to the basket.
"...the only reason they couldn't win the whole thing was two words... Michael Jeffrey Jordan. "
Pauses video. Counts with fingers. Resumed video and continued eating popcorn.
john stockton is the perfect point guard he never switch team !
Paul was traded tho
What does that have to do with anything?
But he never carried a team to the Finals as the best player on his team like CP3 just did yesterday
The fact you are comparing the all time assist leader to Chris Paul is blasphemous
Stockton by a lot due to being able to pass efficiently with left and right handedness.
This question is like comparing Charles Barkley with Horace Grant
Stockton didnt have a selfish bone in his body on the court, and certainly wasn't driven by ego. Chris Pauls biggest issue is his ego.
Stockton over Paul any day of the year
Excellent timing. GG Utah!
I was a HUGE Chris Paul fan from 2007-2013 during his prime years...I personally thought watching Stockton during his prime years was not very entertaining for the fact that he really concentrated his game only on offense...but at their primes Stockton was better...Chris Paul is my favorite point guard in the modern era and I would have him running point in my fantasy starting 5
stockton is the best pg ever,
Chris paul is lucky to be in the top 10
if stockton had a the same quality players as chris paul, we dont even could compare them but as it its stockton is better
Yeah, Malone sucked
Stockton had future HOFer's around him, how the fuck do you think he made it to the finals twice? They couldn't beat the bulls.
Well Stockton did have a much better coach
Courage The Cowardly Dog yeah and he is one of them
Nathan Adeleye Lmao 😂😂😂
pick stockton = reach finals
The title should be "why Stockton is clearly better than Chris Paul"...
dribbling skills - that is why stockton is ahead of his time at that era. simple yet super effective.
with gun in my head -- hands down, its stockton. you chose chris paul because of his individual abilities, I choose stockton because he had proven that he can still play in the modern era of basketball using his own style and still be freaking effective. and he is not only great individually, he is also great on a team level. hence the reason that he has more success than paul in terms of bringing his team to the 3rd round more.
No contest, John Stockton is the greatest point guard of all time.
This is blasphemous I guess isiah Thomas didn’t play or magic Johnson
@@slayy51621 they b on that man nuts he not even close to top 3
@@russell9411 magic curry john
1. stockton
2. nash
3. paul
You forget magic
Luis Larios
And Jason Kidd
@@luislarios4654 glad someone pointed that out.
I don't care what anyone says, Stockton is the best true PG to ever play.
Chris Paul can't even lead a team to a conference finals despite having talent around him.
This aged well because CP3 just carried his team to the Finals yesterday
As much as I like Westbrook and acknowledge his growth he could learn a lot from Stockton. John had the goat turnover ratio.
"Two Words. Michael Jeffery Jordan." uhhh... LOL
John Stockton holds two records that are virtually untouchable. Both those records lend credit to him being the best PG of all time. This isn't even a debate, in my opinion.
I’m the biggest John Stockton fan ever, so of course I’ll say Stockton. That said, I think this would be a legit debate if CP3 had been more durable. I’m glad y’all are showing Stockton the love!
If CP3 can keep up his averages after 19 years, then him. If you took Stockton's first 12 years stats and compared them to Paul's current 12 years, Stockton BLOWS him away in every category but scoring.
excuse me?
Chris Paul first 12 seasons
18.7ppg, 9.9apg, 4.4rpg, 2.3spg, 47,7%fg, 37%3pt, 86.6%ft, 2.4TOVpg, 6.6FGM/13.9FGA
John Stockton first 12 seasons
13.6ppg, 11.5apg, 2.7rpg, 2.3spg, 51.7%fg, 37.8%3PT, 82.1%FT, 3.0tovPG, 4.8FGM/9.4FGA
In conclusion
CP3 - PTS, REBS, FT%, LESS TURNOVERS, MORE FGM
STOCKTON- AST, FG%, 3PT% (barely even tho he took a lot lesss threes)
So who is blowing out CP3s stats? CP3 is one of the best point guards of all time, and Stockton is also that.
Dont talk shit if you cant back it up with stats like i did, shut the fuck up and go to sleep kaay?
Ana Kovacevic one thing we gotta put into consideration tho when it comes to these comparisons: average usage rate for both players over the first 12 seasons applicable
bitch you shut the fuck up, rude ass
Ana Kovacevic dumbass ! Stockton wasn’t a starter his first few years, that’s why his numbers aren’t as good
Stockton easy. 2/3 point guard all time, but CP3 isn't top 5.
I'm glad you finally did a video on Stockton, probably don't remember but I suggested a video idea of the pick&roll in today's game vs (possibly best) Malone and Stocktons game. Even though I'm still highly interested in the change from then to now, considering back then bigs did not shoot from distance, this a great video. Thanks coach.
john stockton is a legend hall of famer . the greatest point guard of all time
high iq ball handling skills than curry and chris paul combined
