I have upgraded to 64GB of Fury RAM and have it configured at 5200. Took some work however it's working just fine. Differences here is I did install 2 WD 2230 2 TB drives, and they work just fine as well I can confirm that either Raid 0 or Raid 1 will work. as well I installed 2 Corsair MP600 Core XT Gen 4x4 4 TB all of a gross total of 12 TB in the laptop. I was doubting between X16 and M18 to upgrade my alienware 15 r4 and went for the big boy thanks to your reviews. The cooling is always better on a bigger chassis, X16 speakers apparantly suck and X16 has soldered ram. Went for the 2K screen with the 4080, did not feel the 4k would run smooth on max settings even on 4090. 2K is the sweet spot. This thing is huge but don't regret it at all, who cares about portability once it is on your desk. Had to get a new backpack though (Everki EKP120).

All my drives work fine however the Kingston 64g Memory is having a problem. The m18 does see it as 5200 and things seem to work but as soon as I try to run a benchmark on the CPU or GPU I get the BSD. I tried everything I know and in the end put back the 32gs that came from dell. The system works fine now. I know this is a shot in the dark.. but do you think I got ahold of a bad 64g set. I used the diagnostic tool in bios and it said there was a problem with the memory and fixed it, however it didn't. So I am running the system with the stock 32g and 10 tb of HD. Any ideas?

    The instructions helped the process a lot but it didn't make it feel any less wrong.
    Snap snap snap... Urgghhh... i hated it!
    I was unable to confidently disconnect the battery since there was so little demonstration on that.
    Thankfully my fumbling attachment of the single M.2 didn't cause any problems and everything was ready to go once I booted up Disk Management and formatted the drive.
    May well do it again for a larger drive in the future now.
    However some clearer instructions on power supply disconnection would be very nice.
    I think I almost yanked out the wires trying to do it.

    Thank you for this review! I bought the Kingston Fury RAM chips today, and I will be watching this video again soon to make sure I install the chips correctly. Meantime, two questions please🤔
    1) This Kingston Fury RAM chip has 260 pins, but the RAM chip being replaced has 262 pins? It looks like your laptop has had no problems with the difference, though. Do pin numbers not matter?
    2) I also tried to research the CAS latency on these SK Hynix chips being replaced, but I couldn't find them anywhere. It is strange, because for most other RAM chips, they show the CL, but I cant find that info for these SK Hynix ones. Might you know?

    FYI I ordered the 7845HX with 4080 and even though the Dell website says that the 4080/4090 laptops have the 4 m.2 slots that is wrong. The AMD board has the 2x 2280 slots but only a single 2230 slot. Quite annoying to go with the fact the system has been a nightmare to accept the Crucial 5200 DDR5 upgrade. After 6 hours of trying various things read here and on Reddit it has posted twice... but then goes back to a continue BIOS failure loop. I install the factory ram and it boots up fine. Returning. This laptop nightmare is a headache I don't need. Just gonna keep rolling with the desktop.

    Ok man. Got a challenge for you. Hope you're doing well!
    So you approach these machines by doing a fresh install of Windows but what about those of us that want to 'prune' the Alienware stuff more selectively and just keep the general SSD factory image intact? So here's my question. The m18 I just picked up has Raid Mode enabled in the Bios. I want to clone the factory SSD to a new one, flip AHCI off ( to get it out of Raid Mode... ) and then boot off the new drive. What's the work around? Uninstall the Intel Optane s/w first before cloning?
    Seems rather odd to me that my single SSD system came from the factory with raid enabled in the Bios... But I've seen this before - a few years back - on a ROG Zephyrus and it drove me nuts!

    • @MashITTech
      @MashITTech  Před 11 měsíci

      I like to do a fresh install as it is actually quicker for me to clean install and install what I want rather than clone then uninstall loads of Dell bloat! But if you go the clone route personally I would just keep command centre and remove most of the rest. Also you can try and switch from RAID to AHCI, it may work just fine these days but used to blue screen, when I get a chance I will test it.

    • @TonyPombo
      @TonyPombo Před 8 měsíci

      RAID should not cause this.
      I replaced the Dell provided SSD with the SN850X 2Tb on my M16. It seems to work fine, but I get BSOD almost weekly when playing Diablo IV. It reboots so fast that I cannot see the code, and weirdly, the STOP is not written to the event log. And, after rebooting it boots to the white BIOS screen where it wants to boot from a web server. I have to turn it off again to get it to boot.
      I realize that these might be symptoms of the drive just "disappearing". That explains why Windows crashes, why it cannot save the event log, and why the system doesn't immediately reboot to the disk.
