Thanks for the video. I have been eyeballing this revolver for some time now. I recently purchased n advantage arms 22lr conversion for my polymer 80 and have been having a lot of fun with it at the range.
I have one with an American flag on the grips.my cylinder was a hair out of time and was shaving bullets on the right side. Took it back to my gun dealer and Heritage replaced the cylinder. Shoots fine now. I do keep an eye on the screws and pins on all my guns. The rear screws did back off about 1/2 a turn. Other than that, no problems whatsoever. They also have a lifetime warranty
The Rough Rider one I purchased brand new had a manufacturing defect in the positioning of the 22 lr cylinder ratchet so that doesn't it lock the cylinder in place when cocking the hammer (The 4th click never happens). The cylinder can easily be rotated out of battery enough to cause the bullet to impact the edge of the barrel, throwing some lead sideways and potentially breaking the frame. Taurus customer service has been giving me the runaround about honoring the 1 year manufacturing defect warranty despite having the receipt from the hardware store clearly showing what I purchased and when. Not honoring their warranty for a dangerously defective $30 retail part that is available for separate purchase on their website is a sign of a poorly managed company. If one of these blows up in your hand, this is potentially the reason, and they have been made aware.
You can purchase an all-metal ejector rod nowadays from aftermarket for $25, shipped, neatly eliminating the sole weak plastic point in the ejector rod tab.
Nice look at a fun gun. I just recently purchased the buffalo nickel 22Mag cylinder for my RR and already had the buffalo nickel grips, so most likely will use it in conjunction with my Ruger 10/22 collection as a combo system. 22lr out of a rifle has mostly the same velocity as 22Mag out of the 6" revolver. The only problem that I've have with mine concerns the ejector rod assembly. The screw that holds the housing to the barrel came loose. It was a simple fix with a drop of Locktite on the screw.
There is more than one screw that may need Loctite according to another channel. My 9 round model does not index properly to allow rod to eject case. I need to turn the cylinder an extra ~ 1/16th of an inch. Others have reported the issue with their 9 round. One CZcams channel host shows that his 9 round does index properly. One person responded that their 6 round does not index properly. One person said Heritage did not consider it to be a warranty issue.
I got the 6.5" barrel because I wanted to use primarily .22 WMR in it. Magnum ammo is not as effective out of a short barrel, at that point you may as well just use .22 LR. The extra energy is wasted out the barrel as noise instead of propelling the bullet.
There is a video here comparing different length barrel rough riders with a chronograph and both ammo types, results showed that actually the 4.something inch barrel gave just slightly higher velocity. Longer barrel added nothing but more resistance for the round to get out of the barrel, because of the cylinder gap extra barrel length doesn't help. 22wmr does give a benefit but not as much as in a rifle, because all the powder doesn't have a chance to ignite before the round leaves the barrel. Shoot something up close with it and you'll see unburnt power all over what you were shooting at with both ammo types.
Are you having an issue with the Heritage shooting left with the 22 mag cylinder? I ordered 2 mag and 1 LR. Both of the LR cylinders work perfectly and shoots true. Where both mag cylinders it shoots left about 6 inches at 10 yards. Not sure why but I am guessing the clocking is just a hair off. I could see or understand human error if it was random but every single shot goes left.
I love my RR pistol. I got the 22lr/22wmr combo recently. I couldnt wait to shoot it My biggest complaint is you have to aim 8 inches low to hit bulls eye from 15 ft.
This is the first of two dozen or more videos I have watched on the Heritage revolvers where someone said the ejector part broke. So I doubt it is a common problem for those that release it slowly. I wonder if a file is available for doing a 3D printout of the part.
Thanks for the video. I have stockpiled for my Mossberg 702 Plinkster .22 rifle about 1,100 rounds of .22 LR ammunition. I was thinking i need to get a pistol to help eat that ammo before it goes bad. How accurate would you say that revolver is? I like to target shoot to challenge myself. I wish there was a model with adjustable sights. I am not concerned about hysterical accuracy.
The ammo should stay good for quite some time with proper storage. But yes this would be a great addition to any persons gun collection. Cheap and fun for whatever you plan to do with it. For what the sights are, the gun is fairly accurate. Within 25 yards with a quick rest, I’ve had good results with mine even with the not non-adjustable sights. I’ve painted the front post white on mine which helps me pick up targets a bit easier. Go for it and thanks for watching!

You weren’t paying attention when he was talking about the ejector rod . They are plastic and the end that you push with your finger breaks off. 😉. Pretty common with that pistol if you let it snap back.

The only problem that I've have with mine concerns the ejector rod assembly. The screw that holds the housing to the barrel came loose. It was a simple fix with a drop of Locktite on the screw.
Mine did the same thing. Very common problem with these revolvers.
That is a very nice leather holster. Where did you get it and does it come in
" The Duelist " size? Yes, I resemble that remark.
Great Guns Very Reliable at a Good Price
I love my RR pistol. I got the 22lr/22wmr combo recently. I couldnt wait to shoot it My
biggest complaint is you have to aim 8 inches low to hit bulls eye from 15 ft.
File your front sight down some.
I own 4 of them one Nickel Plated 6" pearl Handels! All shoot great! No difference in my single six. Contest shooting for for fun.
Where did you get that holster?
Is the receiver steel or aluminum?
Wow nice holster! What's it called! I got a colt an a ruger single action 22!
22 mag is always loud my thought
for the tL:DW folks it's at 4:38. ejector tab is fragile.
Mine came with a .22 mag cylinder (just bought it) 165
This is the first of two dozen or more videos I have watched on the Heritage revolvers where someone said the ejector part broke. So I doubt it is a common problem for those that release it slowly. I wonder if a file is available for doing a 3D printout of the part.
I can't see why it would be it's only pushing spent brass out there's not much pressure on it
It's common sence to check and show that you've made sure you're safe.
Thanks for the video. I have stockpiled for my Mossberg 702 Plinkster .22 rifle about 1,100 rounds
of .22 LR ammunition.
@@sconniewoodsmen3210 Thanks for the reply. I live in NC and local store called " Dunham Sports " has the Rough rider alone for $119.00. I am debating whether it is worth getting the winmag cylinder. Will all versions accept the wm cylinder?
Do you think with the short pistol barrel 6 1/2 " I think ) you get much more velocity from the WM round?
@@Bill23799 Yep Dunham Sports is where I picked up mine a few years ago on sale. Heritage will give you the coupon in the box to buy an extra cylinder. Should work with any of the rough rider models. I have the cylinder but rarely ever shoot 22wmr. For the small price it’s kinda a nice feature to be able to. I like convertible style revolvers. Being able to have options with one gun is a great feature.
@@sconniewoodsmen3210 Thanks for the input. I will probably just buy the revolver now and buy the WMR cylinder in another month or so. I live on a low disability income so there is not much left after paying bills.
I have been looking at reviews of the Rough Rider and it seems almost all is positive but there are a few who say they have had problems right out of the box with breaking springs or not firing all ammo.
I know that all .22LR is not created equal. All of my .22LR ammunition is either CCI Blazer or Federal. I have not had problems with any misfires using this ammo with my Mossberg 702 Plinkster.
Have you had any issues with your Rough Rider?
@@Bill23799 Bill it is a great little gun for the small price. Yes I would get the win mag cylinder because it gives you another option for a different round. they are interchangeable. I start new shooters out on it and then change out to the mag and then go to 9mm. They all enjoy the hell out of it and it is pretty accurate to.
I have one I love mine
Good review
Actually a 22 well it won't bounce around inside of a bear's skull like a pinball, causing Max damage. That's why they were a prime choice for Mafia hitmen.
My RR developed a timing issue out of nowhere! First shot always fires but after that it's hit and miss. I will shoot everytime if I manually seat the cylinder in place😢
just grabbed one here in ny for $100 cant wait to send some down range, where did you get the holster i like it
nvm you just said where you got it in the video haha
You can buy a ruger super six ejector rod for $6 bucks on midway USA and cut it down about a 1/4” and never have another problem breaking
I have one, excellent gun for the money, need to be cleaned and lubricated well, olso the hammer spring need adjusment went comfroting miss fires.
Purchase a 22mag cylinder and you can use both 22mag and 22lr rnds. Keep the 22mag in the revolver for both.
If you don't know, SHUT the F... mouth, it is DANGEROUS shooting 22lr with a 22wmr cylinder, revolver, the diameter is not exactly the same.
Going to say just make your own
Be sure to get a Dollar store broom to sweep up the screws that come undun.
All your screws and the gun ones on the floor, no good.
You should have higher quality hearing protection regardless. You only get one set of ears. I was stupid when I was young now I'm half def
Just wish they would make an all steel version…nothing really wrong with the alloy one…just because, and would be willing to pay more.
I think the only problem is it's not threaded for a suppressor, yet
Facts
Can't you Drill the LR cylinder out to fit the .22 Mags.?
Sure can if you got the precision equipment to do so and test it afterward!

Regarding Carrying it with a fully loaded cylinder,,,That is Heritage covering themselves from Boneheads who dont..You would be hard pressed to have a round detonate with that safety on..All you have to do is watch the countless CZcams videos of guys TRYING to fire this revolver with the safety engaged and then cussing the safety for not allowing it to fire..LOL
Not going to lie that happens to me almost every time I go plinking
Yep that safety has gotten me more than once
PSA Armory, on sale, $99 and mag cylinder free. For now. Act quick. Just got my mag cylinder. have a 6.5 inch on order and will order the free cylinder for it also before it runs out.
I'm so confused... I watched the whole video and I can't figure out what the one problem is... did I just totally miss it or did he never address what the one problem with the Heritage actually is... which is the title of the video... which is why I watched the whole thing... I feel a little upset.
You weren’t paying attention when he was talking about the ejector rod . They are plastic and the end that you push with your finger breaks off. 😉. Pretty common with that pistol if you let it snap back.
I really don't like the tiny gate loading and unloading.
I'd love if ut was open cylinder instead.
Damn. I got that same gun for 179. Still happy. But I could have waited haha
Mine came with both cylinders. Still. I could have saved 50 bucks if I had gotten the $99 6.5 barrel
The problem is, I don't have one.
How Many Times Did He Say, Ahh, Ahh, Ahh.
Good choice for someone that dose trapping I got a trap house sounds good to me
I tell you this either you locktite it or you carry a screwdriver (see video) with it. It may tighten up in time, I'm at about 300 rounds. I'm going to try just tightening it for a couple thousand rounds before I put some blue on it.
Mine came with the 22wmr cylinder no charge
My Heritage .22 doesn't have any riflings in the barrel, just a smooth bore. Never seen a comment on this on any videos. Is mine the only one?
Trappin out tha bando wit a 22 single action 3:04
u can get a aluminum ejector @ joes bench [on utube] 4 $25
have to trust uncle si
Fun cowboy guns... plinking..popping 22$ all day
I took white model paint, and put dot's on the sights. Easy to see them now.
I glued a fiber optic rod on the front sight.
Dunham Sports just had the Rough Rider on sale for $129.99.
Sign up for their flash sale email to receive coupons. They have them for $100 or under every year in November and December for that price after $25 rebate. This year one model they pushed was $90 after rebate.
