I think that's the coolest gun that has come out in a decade. Affordable, real blue with nice checkered wood grips...yeah...that is something we lost and needed back in a bad way. I'm getting one or two of those. I occasionally carry revolvers and know tons of people that do, both young and old...they make sense for a lot of people in a lot of parts of the country. And we like them. They're beautiful and reliable. And they are excellent for reloaders.
👍🏻
I was just about to say it’s actully cool and not tactiugly
The 3" is always in stock but the 2" snub nose is hard/out of stock a lot.
@@koDaffibe patient. Get the one you want.
It's Great!!!!🎉🎉🎉
Looks like that’s basically the old Taurus Model 85 with retro grips and no under lug. I want it.
My 85 has that style grips.
@@ricjona1069they all take the same grips, those are the old school style.
Agreed.
I was a police officer for 36 years and in 1988 I was promoted to detective which was about a year and a half before we switched to autos, so for that time period I was issued a 3" blued chief special. It was a cool little gun but I think I would have been happier with the model 15 I carried in uniform because I shot better with the 15 and it was a 6 shooter. I was happy when the autos were issued. I enjoyed your video. 👍
Thank you for watching Sir 🤠
I will allow for your young age but, seriously, saying that 5 rounds of 38 Special is not a serious self-defense gun is ridiculous. Especially with non-Plus P 158 special lead semi-wadcutters, it was the quintessential self-defense gun for a large portion of the previous century. I would take this over a pocket .380 in a heartbeat, which means that I'm going to head over the mountain tomorrow to my local gun shop and get an order in for one of these. It was a good review overall.
Well said. I feel the same way.
Its not a serious self-defense gun, considering you can get a more powerful 9mm that holds 3 times as many rounds for the same price. Can you use it for self-defense? Sure. You can also use a black powder revolver for self defense. Its still a cool gun and I will probably be buying one.
@@farklestaxbaum4945 it is absolutely a 'deadly' serious self defense weapon. More rounds are great, but not required to be an effective weapon. By your logic a single stack auto loader isn't "serious" either. And to use the same logic a double stack 9mm isn't serious, because an AR will have twice it's capacity and a lot more power and range. And that argument can be continued through the heat death of the universe. 38 special has been successful for over a century as a self defense cartridge. Can you have more power? Sure. More capacity? Absolutely. Are either necessary? Only in the most bizarre scenarios. I try not to take on whole mobs at once.
@@sinisterthoughts2896 Yes, a single stack auto loader isn't "serious" anymore, you can get a double stack autoloader in any size with little-to-no price increase over a comparable single stack. I would hope you're clever enough to understand we are talking about carry gun,s i.e. not ARs... As I commented previously, this gun can be pushed into a self defense role, but it is a replica for a reason. A 5-shot .38 is obsolete in todays self-defense marketplace. If you are looking a for a serious self-defense gun there are 100 better options. I still like the gun. I don't know why some people have such a hard time distinguishing between something that "can" be used for self defense and something that is GOOD for self defense.
I just want to caution you that my experience with this product was really bad. It completely broke in 5 rounds.
Heritage needs to come out with a top break, nine-shot, .22 revolver. If they do that with some of their other new offerings, they would have a huge market share.
I just handled an H&R 999 break-open 22 cal. revolver and one on the local gun shop yesterday. It was in good shape with no rust and the shop owner had a price tag of $599.00. I lusted over it for a minute or two but eventually the price tag was too large to take it home.
H&R made some great revolvers, Top break and others. I wish somebody to buy all their tooling with the intention of buildings some guns.
Heritage, at least used to not, use strong enough steel. Their rough riders are made of VERY soft metal, and top breaks are a inherently weak design(and super cool), so soft metal and weak design spell disaster.
These are made by Taurus in Brazil and just sold by Heritage. Taurus has improved drastically in the quality of steel they use now. They are not bad at all. I am serious when I say the BEST trigger of all my polymer pistols is my Taurus TX22. Sounds silly, but it is true.
That’s a great looking pistol, definitely retro!! I’m a sucker for the old nostalgia guns! Just something about them. But being that it’s new that’s pretty cool coming from the gun industry keeping the past still in the mix of our present times!! Thank you for sharing!!
That revolver is a remake of a pistol from my favorite era in firearms and American history. I always wondered why the police carried revolvers while the gangsters had 1911s and Tommy guns like the Military. That’s partially what lead to the .357 magnum cartridge and the .38 super. In my opinion, I think that society thought of the 1911 as “too much gun”.
A lot of police departments adopted the M1911 at the time, and Tommy Guns, just to find out the 45 ACP couldn't penetrate car bodies very well. There comes the need for the 357 Mag.
@donwyoming1936 another problem was penatration on the 357. City was worried about law suits from a mother being shot when the cops 357 bullet passed through the crook and hit mommy.
Earl8er autos weren't always as reliable, as well as ammunition being dodger. Revolvers are simple, will chew through any ammo, and at the time were much cheaper.
Another great video! Nice throw back revolver. Like the one grandpaw kept in the sock draw for things that went bump in the night.
Yeah! Isn’t funny how grandpa never felt “under gunned” with one of these in his nightstand whereas nowadays we are told we need a minimum of 50 rounds in our pistol or we will be killed in a gunfight. 🤠
@@wyominggunprojectbut, with today's criminals you'll probably need more firepower. Look at home invasions country wide.
It's like the S&W early 1900's Model. l-frame " Trooper " Model. I saw a guy's collection with several Models of this series, Police, Trooper, etc. Heritage Manufacturing did a nice job on this .
I have an old S&W 36 with 3in barrel that looks just like the Rosco. Cool video nice revolver
My cousin has the same pistol. Great shooter.
This is basically a clone. Ses like a 3 inch taurus 85.
Me too, I have the old SW that looks just like this. Has become my everyday carry. It just carries so well. I wish it would handle +P.
Just picked up a pre-model 80 taurus 5 screw frame made off of old S&W machines and its fantastic. The 70s certainly was a cooler time. Glad someone is making new old school revolvers. Might pick up the 2" if it's better than a charter arms.
Charters kinda throw me off, their fit and finish is usually atrocious. At least more modern ones. They are not really the same company many came to love in the 70's. If I recall correctly, basically it's just the name got purchased.
@@sinisterthoughts2896 I've handled one's from the 60s and 70s and they were fantastic. Sucks that charter is the only ones (besides the Smith 547) that do clipless semi auto carterage chambered revolvers. I'd really like a high quality hand ejector rimless carterage revolver but nobody does it. The Chiappa rhino would be perfect if they didn't need moon clips
That's a nice looking little revolver. I like the smaller frame revolvers with a 3" barrel rather than 2".
Agreed I owned a Smith model 36 with a blade rear sight. But I also had a Taurus small frame 5 shot ported .357 back when Taurus has a vast inventory (what happened) to choose from. Two guns I wish I still had in my collection.
I bought a 2” Roscoe two weeks ago, and it’s been in my pocket since then. I do generally carry a revolver, mostly a S&W 686+ with a 2.5” barrel. The Roscoe is a joy to carry in comparison, and also a joy to shoot. I installed Pachmayr Renegade wood stocks, and they work great with speed loaders. I carry speed strips 99.99% of the time. Nice shooting, and great video. 👍
Thanks man. The Roscoe is a cool little gun. 🤠
I love revolvers. To me they're art, and this i definitely something Id like
Hearing that the sights are “right on” is a huge relief considering they’re fixed sights and can never be adjusted! Haha
I know 🤣
My summer EDC is a Smith 38 J-Frame in a pocket holster. I'd have no problem carrying the Roscoe for self defense. I'm surprised by the quality of the bluing on a gun in that price range. Great video.👍
Thanks for watching man. 🤠
Got a 2 Wood Roscoe and took it to the range yesterday. Shot trouble free and consistent @15 yards through about 100 rounds. It’s fun.
Right On Man 🤠
Think Taurus revolvers have been good for awhile. Got a mod 82 that’s been great and only paid $275
There may have been some taurus revolvers that weren't up to snuff, but I've never seen one. Great dollar for dollar guns.
One of the only folks I've seen who is flinchless on that anticipated sixth shot. Nice.
Thanks man 🤠
Good review of the Roscoe and the scenery makes me want to move back to my Idaho home. That said, I will be adding the three inch version to my wheel gun collection because it does look cool and the price is right. Now , I have to find "L.A. Confidential" on the movie channel. Thanks!
Thanks for watching. L. A. Confidential is a fantastic movie 🤠
I want one! And I'll order an "It's all about the vibe" t-shirt, too...
I have a weak spot for their Roughrider and Barkeep series in .22LR. So far, I have the 2", 4.75", & 6.5" versions. Seems like every time I see one, it is on special for 99 beans, I can't pass it up if I don't have that length.🤷♂
I love some of the reviews of the gun. For 1940s Cosplayers. Dress up like your favorite detective, Sam Spade.
Simple, reliable. What's not to love?
Please do a "Thousand Round Review".
Great video buddy! Love the vibe!
Thanks man 🤠
I've heard gangsters in movies refer to their guns as "Roscoes" very cool
Great video. I liked the in-depth review. You have a lovely range to enjoy your hobby. Thanks for sharing
Thank you very much for watching 🤠
I'd buy it as a cheap range toy for use with wadcutters, and hope I got a good one. It would be fine in that role. I'd also try to find a Tyler T-Grip to fit it. Talk about cool nostalgia.
I agree with the commenter. If they did put out a .22 in a 9 or even a 6 round especially in. 22mag. That would be an easy sale for campers
The Heritage Manufacturing website has this listed as plus P. And all the videos that I've seen from shot show featuring the Taurus and Heritage Booths specifically speak about how it is a + P rated revolver.
It should be +P, because it's a steel-framed Model 85 under all that polish...
@@SEO122 also truth be told pretty much every gun post 1970 can handle plus P.
And the ones that cannot handle it typically state do not operate with plus P ammunition
Very cool , gonna put it on the list to get ! Nice video pard ..
Thank you sir 🤠
I took my Roscoe to the range earlier today and I did fire a cylinder of Underwood 125gr +p because if recall correctly a spokesperson for Heritage at a Gunshow said that it was +p rated. I personally wouldn’t recommend shooting a lot of cylinders full of them in a row because the cylinder seems to get hot very quickly.
I'm digging it.👍
Nice revolver, Taurus got this one right. No reason to beat up the gun with +P ammo. It will last indefinitely shooting standard pressure 38 Special ammo. I prefer it in 32 H&R mag.
Yeah definitely a bit of a days gone by vibe going on there. That gun has Humphrey Bogart and James Cagney written all over it. Also like when a decent quality firearm at a very affordable price shows up. Really good news for folks on a budget so they can at least protect themselves and their loved ones. Plus, well what can I say Matt. It's got a 3 inch barrel. Once again great video and totally enjoyed it!
We know you love the 3 inchers Big Mike. 🤣 Thanks for watching my friend. Miss hanging out with you guys.
I don't know. It looks a lot like the Rossi I'm holding. It looks to be a tad smaller and without a rear sight. I would absolutely put it on my side.
When it comes to size comparisons and dimensions for videos, a set of cheap dial calipers (Harbor Freight ones work great) can measure things like cylinder diameter and frame widths pretty easily and help visualize said measurements for your viewers. They're also handy to have around the shop, especially if you knock your small drill index in the floor lol. Loved the video, I'd like to get one of these myself soon.
This is a cool-looking gun and it performed well. Next time, I think you should be wearing spats, a fedora, and chomping on a cigar. Love the G-Man shooting position!
Great gun for the money, may pick one of these up if they go on sale below 300.
Fairly nice piece.
👌 awesome revolver ❤
It looks just like the Rossi Model 68, 5 shot .38 special made back in the 80's.
Totally agree, except I would call it a “heater” and I will be purchasing one!
Dam Right! 🤠
Beauty!!
Look like a good every day carry, conceal or in the farm., I love revolver style
I definitely want one.
The old Roscoe reintroduced, thats cool!.
Yes Sir 🤠
After seeing your pistol I went to the web site to checkout the 2in. Barrel mod. And it is rated for +P .I didn't checkout the 3in. Barrel but the 2in. Is +P rated . Thanks for the video.
I want the short barrel version. Love the retro look.
I want one .but I want every gun I see.lol I do love 38 special and blued guns .maybe if I got some extra money and my fav gun shop has one at a good price
I like the retro look...just wish they did the pencil tapered barrel
Keep up the good work !
Thanks man 🤠
I want one!!!
This looks like something from the TV show Kojack with Telly Savalas. Who loves ya baby? LOL
It does 🤣🤣🤣
Nice! Looks like a S&W model 36 3"
You don't have to worry about speed loaders, trigger weight, point of aim or any of that stuff. This guns main function is pistol whipping.
🤘🏻
Pretty sure that 856 is stainless and generally stronger
WGP, missed you in the chat. As usual a good video…I want one.
Heritage has a problem with the timing on their cheap 22 revolvers. I just wonder if this 38 special will be the same? I'm not downing heritage at all I'm just asking
They should make when in polished SS
Nice looking gun, wouldn't mind owing one.
Looks like a S&W model 36 that came out in the 50s.
It's a clone, I believe. Looks like a 3 inch taurus 85.
Like the model 10 from S&W but with a 3” barrel is pretty cool.
Looks like Taurus put the old Model 85 tooling back into service.
These are very similar to the old Rossi revolvers a little bit nicer in the day you could buy the Rossi's fairly cheap this gun is almost $400 you could buy a really nice semi-auto pistol for that money.
It is +P rated. All +P rated firearms recommend to use +P sparingly because the added pressure is going to cause more wear on any +P rated firearm. If you check your manual on your other +P rated revolver it also states that you should use +P sparingly.
Beautiful gun. On the website it does say +P, FYI.
Roscoe P. Coltrane's sidearm. 😀
Oh yeah 👌 😍 💯
Will have one soon
Do it 🤠
Looking to get the 2” soon, then the 3” not long after.
I have the 2” version, and have been carrying it for two weeks. 👍👍👍
Cool revolver. Thanks for the great video. Did Taurus just revive the Model 85 with this?
I think they did with a few subtle retro changes.
Weird that the gun is not marked +P, but the manual and website both say its rated for +P, although any modern 38 can fire +P without issue.
Yep. 👍🏻
IT’S A TAURUS/ROSSI, manufactured in the same quality control challenged factory in Brazil with the same industry high percentage of warranty return/repair issues, and if your one of unfortunate buyers of a firearm that escapes their factory with one or more defects, you’ll be forced to deal with the same abysmal customer service apparatus and pay return shipping charges for that privilege.
Ok. So don’t buy one.
@@wyominggunproject I won’t. Not after the time I bought a single shot .410 Rossi Tuffy thinking there’s no way to screw up a single shot .410. But I was wrong. The chamber bore was so out of tolerance that expanded fired shells would not eject and had to be driven out with a dowel rod. Then I had to deal with Shakneequah with BrazTech customer service who went down a checklist designed to dissuade warranty returns and stressed that I had to pay return shipping charges. Luckily I bought the piece of $#!+ from Academy and they took care of the warranty return and shipping charges. Lesson learned, if you’re dumb enough to buy Taurus/Rossi and don’t mind waiting 4-6 months for the warranty repair, be sure and buy it at Academy Outdoors.
I'm not much for firearms, but that's a pretty gun.
Very cool
A lot of likes for a new video
Eh, you can find a vintage Smith and Wesson Model 36 or Colt Detective Special for not that much more money. WGP - you need more vintage revolvers in your collection. Too many new production guns. There are so many great deals on vintage Colt Police Positives, Army Special, Official Police, Detective Specials, etc.
Where? Roscoe is only 300ish. You're not getting SW or Colt for that. Maybe 500-600 but you're not getting 1 that cheap unless you know someone selling it.
I've seen junk colt detectives going for 600.00.
Use speed strips.
No I know where the term Rocco came from. For the old guys.
Looks like eastern WY. I retired to south western WY.
Right outside Casper my friend. 🤠
@@wyominggunproject The REAL Windy City. Chicago has nothing on Casper.
I'm glad you compared it next to the Taurus, I'm debating on getting either or. I like the Taurus because it just looks cool, cheap, and a six shot. I also like the Rosco because it looks like a classic. How much did you spend on each? Here in Texas at academy the Taurus goes for about $350
They go about the same price here. The Roscoe was $310. 🤠
@wyominggunproject awesome I might just go with the Roscoe then, thanks! Keep up the good work, frome one 2A collector to another 👏
@@rubixfilms687 thanks man. Appreciate you watching 🤠
I detest 5 shot revolvers but then I thought maybe the hammer is drawn back further in DA because of the greater cylinder spacing, nope, my Charter Arms 5-shots are pathetic for light primer strikes in DA
Looks like my old Rossi.
is the heritage roscoe a rework of the out of production taurus 85?
Not even a rework. Taurus retired the Model 85 due to the 6-shot Model 856, but evidently the old tooling still has some revenue potential, so here we are...
Wondering if S&W grips are compatible, or maybe Taurus small frame.
How heavy is the trigger pull double action and how much felt recoil?
Would it be good to teach a first-time female shooter?
I see people doing videos on 38 Special +p, but no videos about +p+.
Looks like a lot of recoil with just standard 38s.
Just for fun , I want this and the Bad Lander in 12 gauge .
Hell Yeah! 🤠
Would doesn't love blue steel & wood just enough to make you feel like a '30's private detective
They will fly off the shelves
The Barney Fife gun!
All I need is one round 🤣
I wonder why they added the “e” if it’s meant to recall Rosco P Coltrane?
good video
Thanks 🤠
What speed loader are you using in this vid?
HKS
@@wyominggunproject thanks
Any chance they would come out with a 9mmm version?
Probably not
In my previous comment I forgot to include that the 4 22 revolvers I bought all had sites that were leaning to one side I will never buy another heritage pistol of any type regardless of how cheap they are nothing more than junk
Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane 😂
🤣
Man, you need to make the first shots one handed.
smith & wesson model 13 or model 10 is what it resembles
Kinda looks like a cross between a Model 10 and a old Charter Arms Bulldog
