  • In this video I’ll take you on the journey of repairing a Douchebag branded backpack I found at a thrift store for AUD15 (US11-12?) which would normally cost 300 in store. It was in great condition except for a ripped inner piece which I thought I could replace quite easily. It turned out to be more difficult than I expected but I was happy with the final result all the same!
Welcome to Slew Living. I'm Esther and I sew stuff to support a slow lifestyle.
If you’re starting to learn about sustainable and ethical fashion and how to curate a more mindful closet, a great step is to learn how to mend clothing and accessories and make them last longer. This way you can really invest in the key pieces of your wardrobe that you get the most wear out of, and in the long run save the planet from excess clothing that ends up in landfill.
You might be surprised to learn that most carbon emissions emitted from the fashion supply chain are from the end user (us!), that come from caring for the garment - things like washing, drying and disposing of it at the end of it’s life. Prolonging the life of a garment therefore decreases the emissions required to create new garments, and also the disposal of it to landfill. In the words of Vivienne Westwood, ‘Buy less, choose well and make it last!’

Thanks, you are the only person on CZcams talking about backpack restoration. I’ve got an old leather backpack I want to redo the straps on, and I’ll use this as a template.

You could have used the same fabric and sewed it instead going through a large process over removing all threads cut only part which was damage use a piece of long cloth tape to sew it by turning the bag upside down

I did it the way I believed would have the best long term outcome for strength and durability :)
