- Do We Need 'Em was a feature in which Karl would ask a scientist or an animal expert if the world really needs a particular animal, such as jellyfish or snails. Most of the experts, as well as Ricky and Steve, told Karl that every animal has a knock-on effect, that all creatures are integral to their particular ecosystem. This feature began as Pilkington, with the Parkinson theme tune, and with Karl interviewing someone who claimed to have been visited by a spirit.
Karl ended the feature after just a few weeks because he was convinced that scientists were conspiring against him and would never agree to rid the world of any animal.

Seen this episode at least once before but I'm a bit tired right now so I watched the entire video like a radio show with my eyes closed as usual, half smiling and just listening up until 9:29 and then I just burst out laughing out loud at the uselessness of the entire segment.

this is from the xfm radio shows. series 2, it is by far the best season. 50+ hours of greatness from these guys.

The smaller they are and the more numerous they are, the more important they tend to be in nature. By that logic, bacteria and plankton fit your description of "animals that could cause a global ecosystem collapse or mass extinction".
