10. Hammer-Headed Bat
In 2018, images surfaced online of a seemingly humongous bat with a distinctive strangely-shaped head, leading internet users the world over to wonder if it was even a real creature in the first place. The question became so pervasive, it even gained the attention of Snopes and earned a place in the fact-checking siteâs official archives.
9. A New Mosasaur
While this big guy hasnât been around for a very long time, we didnât know that it ever existed until recently! So it is new to US! Gavialimimus almaghri-bensis is a new genus and species of mosasaur or marine reptile, that scientists discovered in Morocco, in a phosphate mine known for its abundance of mosasaur fossils and occasionally a dinosaur or two.
8. âJokerâ Spider
Earlier this year, researchers discovered a new velvet spider species in Iran! They took one look and said it reminded them of the face paint of the Joker from the iconic Batman series. Spider researchers Alireza Zamani and Yuri Marusik described the âJoker spiderâ (Loureedia phoenixi) in a recently published paper in the journal Arthropoda Selecta.
7. An Early Sea Creature
Last year, a team led by Virginia Tech paleontologist Shuhai Xiao formally described Yilingia spiciformis, the first known species to roam the seafloor and to have a segmented body. Additionally, it was the first creature to have identifiable front and back ends to its body, and symmetrical left and right sides -- features that nearly all of todayâs animals possess.
6. Wakanda Fish
In mid-2019, scuba divers discovered a new fish species, which they named Cirrhilabrus wakanda after the fictional kingdom in Marvelâs Black Panther movie, according to New Scientist. The fish, measuring just 2.4 inches (6 cm) long, has dark purple fins and a yellow head.
5. Dragon Snakeheads
In a recent, rare discovery, scientists have identified a new family of fish called dragon snakeheads, which live in the underground waters of the Western Ghats, a biodiversity hotspot in southern India. Known as âliving fossils,â these creatures are thought to have existed for at least 100 million years, since they diverged from their closest relative.
4. A Millipede
When Tess Moody, a staff member at Caw Caw Interpretive Center in Ravenel, South Carolina, noticed a millipede specimen that she couldnât identify in 2018, she photographed it and took to the internet for help.
3. A New Wasp Species
Scott Egan, an evolutionary biologist and associate professor of biosciences at Rice University, discovered a new gall wasp species that may be a âparasite of a parasite.â He found the creature near his lab in the Houston, Texas area and first hatched the species in 2014.
2. African Wading Mice
African wading mice are swamp- and river-dwelling rodents found in the tropical forests of East Africa that are much larger than average mice. Equipped with long feet and whiskers, they hunt for prey in the shallow waters of their habitat. Basically they are mice that crawl around the water!
1. Two-Fingered Dinosaur
Paleontologists working in Mongolia recently discovered the fossilized remains of a previously unknown Oviraptorosaur genus and species. Officially named Oksoko avarsan, the long-extinct omnivorous dinosaur roamed the Earth approximately 68 million years ago, during the Late Cretaceous period.

That hammerhead bat looks like a genetic experiment gone wrong...
True
"my name is batty"
Look up the flying fox, it's much bigger than the hammer head bat, and its also found in Africa. It's one of my favorite mega bats, and is the biggest bat in the world

The answer to the dragon snake fish not changing much in evolution is, "If it's not broken, don't fix it"
The answer is evoloution is not a fact nor proven
@@faithlycan2004 it Has Been proven
Over and over it Is a fact
Evolution is a scientific theory. (look it up). Besides although many people contest macroevolution, microevolution is generally accepted by many communities.
@@faithlycan2004 even if it wasn't, it wouldn't be an answer

Why did you show Morocco in the center (and east edge) of Africa. That isnât where Morocco is.
That's clearly nigeria which is the west edge....left is west right is east
Poor bats. I saved one from the pool at my work. It was swimming around trying to figure out how to get out. When it seen me it swam right over and I scooped it out and put it on a tree. It was actually cute
Your a good man, I would never hurt a bat but I am terrified of touching them.
You should make sure to wear gloves when doing so as many bat species carry diseases that can infect humans. In fact, I often think gloves are appropriate when handling most wildlife to protect the both of you, sometimes even the oils produced by your skin can hurt other living things.
It's good that you saved them though. I do the same for field mice in my area, although they can be a pest there are a lot of cats in my area. They are competing for the same food source as the owls we have locally and I would like to see the owls be able to eat.
@@thehowlingjoker ya. I thought of some of those things but didn't have time to do anything about it. The poor thing was trying so hard to live. And when I walked over to the water it swam right over to me like help me pls.
You saying bats in general or are you saying you living in africa...since this video is about african bats, only reason you should share is if you're in africa and the bat in question is the same one from the video.
@@ravinraven6913 wtf does that have to do with anything. Bats are bats. And if you're not apart of the conversation then don't say anything and stay out of it.
That Moroccan placement tho hahah waay off by half a continent lol
XD maybe morocco expanded its borders to the new moroccan empire without the worlds notice.XD

It was misspelled too
They move away
I said the same in my comment, as well as mentioning the spelling. I think the spot is over Nigeria. This type of misinformation is ubiquitous on CZcams. What pisses me off is how most of them ignore the comment section when they're corrected. I'd respect them more if they added a text edit on the screen, which can be done quite easily. Ignorance is cannibalising it on CZcams.
Could the Jersey Devil actually be a hammer head bat?
Probably, why you think people mistaken komodo dragons as dragons?
Yeah my first thoughts exactly
No
No absolutely not u fool
That Hammerhead Bat totally looks like pplâs descriptions of the Jersey Devil đ
Your right, thought the same thing when i saw it..
Was really worried this was going to be clickbait. It wasnât and now I love this video.
Yes I like hearing about newly discovered species
You're in the wrong place. Unless hearing about a species for the first time that the world has known about for hundreds of years is what you want
Lmfaoo this sounded creepy
Who else thinks the face of that bat in the thumbnail looks like the Jersey Devil?
So the poeple mistaken the mothman as hammer-headed bat i guess.
its actually theorized that the original mothman sighting was actually a large snowy owl
Mother Nature never ceases to amaze me. She has so much to give and educate, it breaks my heart how we treat her. I get so excited when new species are discovered, there's so much out there that we haven't found yet. The answers are out there! We've just gotta find it!

Really like your videos, hope you continue to evolve in topics you present, you are getting SO good at it!!!đ
It was a good video besides the part that she stated a millipede was an insect.
Dragon snakehead or Dragon Fish is very common in aquariums here in Malaysia. I had a pair that grew to almost 12". They are hardy and can live in extreme conditions. I l kept them for almost 2.5 years. Fed them tiny fish and bread worm. I had to leave them in a river as I had to relocate temporarily at that time. When I left them inside the water, both resurfaced for a while and went in. I took it as them thanking me. This was in 2005 during one of my lowest point in life. Regretted letting them go.
One fact that they got wrong: the hammer head bat is not the largest bat in Africa.... That would be the flying fox with wing pans of up to 5.5 feet with a head and body length of 16 inches, and its said they are the biggest bat in the world.
if i discovered a new insect spiecies i would name it after someone i hate
and what if the person you hate loves insects and other crawlers?? E.g. like me. I am keeping millipedes, isopods, mantises, scorpions and tarantulas as pets.
Love your videos! Iâm always learning new things from your videos.
