  • Many people in Illinois have specialized jobs that can only be done in a city, but they might not necessarily want to live in an urban area. So what to do? Move to a suburb! When looking for a place to live, one consideration that should be taken is how safe the area is. No one wants to be forced to put bars on their windows. So, in this video, we're taking a look at the 12 Chicago suburbs that have the lowest crime rates.

    Naperville, Homer Glen, and several others are great if you're upper-middle class, or far out (50 miles+) from Chicago. Taxes in Illinois are the second highest in the United States. Property taxes in Illinois, as well as sales taxes in Cook County (where Chicago is located) are almost obscene. They vary widely and can be lower or higher in other counties in the great Chicagoland area (DuPage, Lake, Kane, Will, Kendall, DuPage, McHenry, Grundy, LaSalle, Dekalb, Winnebago).

      Thanks! I've been working two jobs, so I haven't had as much time to work on videos as I would like, but I'm going to try to get back to releasing one every week.

    I saw one of your videos and there were small towns that were not expensive to live in, and most of them had little or no crime

    FYI if you do decide to check out Gilberts make sure you follow the speed limit to the T there. The police there love love love to write tickets and will do so for going even just 1mph over the limit. Oh and they love themselves some speed traps.

    If you like cemeteries, Justice is your town!!! Resurrection Cemetery has over 125,000 burials since its opening in 1904---10 times the current town population. It still has a lot more room for future burials. I have lots of relatives and friends who are buried there. There is also another large cemetery adjoining Resurrection, (Bethania Cemetery) as well as 4 other smaller cemeteries in the town. About 3 years ago the Tribune had a full one page article about the city and its cemeteries. Somewhere in my 'files' I still have that interesting article.

    Is the takeaway here that rich people can afford to sequester themselves from the rest of us? I do wonder, though, where their servants live?

    Like the Zoo, everything in Chicago is safe, but don't go inside the cage and look twice before you cross the street.

      Unfortunately, Lansing has been in a decline over the years. I was friends with an elderly couple whose home got broken in the early 2000s and they suffered physical attacks. They have since died. The criminal was never caught.

    At what point do you stop calling a town or village a Chicago suburb? I think they shouldn't be called suburbs if you have to drive more than 15 minutes outside city limits. Some of these towns are in other counties.

    • @StuckInTheKernfield
      @StuckInTheKernfield  Před rokem +3

      I'm using the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce's boundaries, which include several counties. It's not just Cook County. People commute from farther away than a 15-minute drive, which is what makes a suburb.

      @melodymaker396 Před 8 měsíci

      Agreed. I hate it when the news reports on a town/city 40 miles out of Chicago, a suburb. Of course Chicago runs the state don't you know.

    What about park forest Illinois?
