    New to doing this type of thing. I have a new found respect for audio system folks. My ram has been a nightmare for me. But this video is the only one that makes perfect sense. (After watching and absorbing the info after 4 or 5 times lol) Thank you so much!

    THIS was exactly what I was going to try on my friend's 2000 Durango after I replaced the factory deck with a new Alpine head unit. In my 45+ years of installing car audio stuff (not full-time, just every car I've ever owned plus friends' and family members') this was the first one I had power at the new deck but no sound. That confirmed my power wires were correct and my ground was right, but no matter what I tried I could not get any sound from any speakers. Next, I disconnected all but the 2 powers and the ground, then started doing my "battery click test" learned 30 years ago to find each speaker (using any 1.5 volt battery, in my case a AA). I tried EVERY combination from the deck but got no clicks from any speaker, so I gave up for the day (it's winter here and it was getting COLD!). I then went home and googled it, only to find out it was SUPER COMMON. At least I could sleep better knowing it was nothing I screwed up! Next, I googled "2000 Dodge Durango stereo wiring" and found like 8 to 10 DIFFERENT versions, none of which had the same colors at the deck ends of the 2 harnesses! THAT really got me confused. So after finding out the reason nobody got any sound was because there was a factory amp, I new what I had to do next; bypass the factory amp! I was going to do your wire test at the amp to determine each speaker output, then just run new speaker wires from the Alpine to those 8 wires until I saw this video! Seems like a much neater connection method with less hassle of running new speaker wires. MY QUESTION NOW TO YOU IS THIS (PLEASE reply asap because I'm going back tomorrow to finish this job): regarding phase checking, if I don't have one of those fancy expensive phase-checking tools like you guys have, would reversing the AA battery also do the same thing? I mean, if the positive to one wire and the negative to another wire moved the speaker out one way, if I reversed those two wires on my AA battery and it moved the other way, that would give me my phase answer? Like if my cone moves IN when the 1.5v battery is touched one way, that would tell me which one is positive and negative? Or maybe I could just follow the same ones you guys found. Thanks for any help. This turned out to be a nightmare, and I told the Durango owner/friend this was going to be the LAST car stereo I replace for anyone buy myself! LOL! Probably not, but I was VERY frustrated that a simple head unit swap that only took a half hour ended up taking days and days of online research!!! OHHHH... ONE MORE QUESTION: if I decided to just run new speaker wires to the speaker outputs from the factory amp, would I need to unplug the other plug from the amp and remove the amp, or could I leave it there? THANKS FOR SUCH AN AWESOME VIDEO!

    I've been spending days trying to figure out why my 95 Explorer's speakers wouldn't work with my new deck, turns out it's all because of this premium sound amplifier in between the speakers and the wires in the dash now I know exactly 100% how to fix it. Nice video makes perfect sense now and know exactly how to bypass that crappy old amp.

If I was going to install a Kenwood DNX696S in my 07 Town and Country and I was happy with the factory Infinity sound system. I don't have to by pass the amp. I can wire the radio directly to the factory harnesses. Is the correct? Would the Metra 70-6504 be the correct harnesses to accomplish this installation?

    Super detailed videos and that's much appreciated by us DIY'ers of the world. I'm about to tackle an amp bypass in a 2006 Toyota Sequoia with the JBL system and need some pointers. Have y'all ever worked on this particular setup? I'm installing a new head unit and new door speakers. I'm told the factory amp bypass is imperative whether I choose to install another after market amp or not. Does that sound about right to you so far? Also that I'll need to run speaker wire to bypass the amp because there's a signal output that powers it from the factory head unit. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    • @FiveStarCarStereoInc
      @FiveStarCarStereoInc  Před 7 lety +1

      +Jeremy Mayle we bypass them all the time. There are 2 different systems depending on the year. One is a 2 amp system- amp 1 is below the radio and amp 2 is under the armrest. The dash amp is front, armrest is rear. The second system just has one amp under the cup holders. Remove the amps and tap the new radio into the old amps plugs.

      Five Star Car Stereo I’m in the middle of my install. My 2006 Sequoia is the single amp system. I have an Alpine 445U power pack amp and I’m assuming I can do the same - tap that amp into the old amps plugs, correct? Because even after installing a new head unit I now have no sound from any of the speakers - which I expected after learning more how the JBL digital signal works.

    If the factory speakers was components on the front doors. Looking at a diagram the tweeter is the first to receive the wire and than to the 2 way subwoofers. Predicting a resistor between the connection of the tweeters. If I was using the factory speaker lines but wanted to use the aftermarket crossover to utilize the adjustable settings . Do I use the line from the tweeter or from the subwoofers for the aftermarket crossover . Would that line that may or may not have the resistors affect performance of the aftermarket components if it diid use a resistor or some sort of crossover

The front speakers were powered by the HU (Pioneer AVH-1500) already.. so that was easy to get powered by the 4channel.. I tapped into the factory amp and spliced the left and right rear speaker wire then bridged those to the 4 channel.. For whatever reason I'm getting REALLY bad feedback from the rear speakers.. The front speakers are loud and crisp so I know it isn't the ground..and RCAs are all good..did I tap into the wrong wires? the only other wires that go to the speakers are input wires to the amp

    When you soldered the wires from the radio to the amp output, what did you end up doing with the power and ground that you left alone? How do they matter if no other wires are connected to them/the plug isnt going into an outlet? I don't want to confuse you, I'm just trying to figure this out because I am able to turn on my aftermarket radio and all of my amp connections for my two rear amps are unplugged, and there is only supposedly those two amps in the car in totality. What I did was I used a conversion harness that came with the head unit and matched them up with my speaker wires respectively (just in place of the old harness), and I spliced into the wires coming from the amp for the power and negative so that the radio would turn on. I didn't expect the radio to turn on once I unplugged and removed the amps from the car, though. Sorry for the long response!

    I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee Classic and I want to do this but whenever you skip over soldering the wires I get completely lost so I'm not able to do it. My Jeep has the exact same Chrysler Infinity amp.

    Hi guys, I love you videos. Hey, I've got a special problem with my 2004 tundra quad cab. I put in a new stereo-- Pioneer. And it'll work for a few days. And I'll shut down then it'll come back on. There's no rhyme a reason it just works whenever it freaking. Feels like it one guy told me how to change the front base speaker so I did that didn't help. Somebody said the rear amplifier is the problem. No one behind the back seat. I don't know what to do. I'm about ready to tear it out, put my original back in.?????? I have not done anything with the rear amp as of yet, please help.

    I have a 03 jaguar xj8 i tried to put in an aftermarket radio I got the unit to work but when I tried to turn the volume up I got nothing from my speakers .. I'm sure there's still a factory amp due to the factory radio but when I purchased the car I noticed the previous owner had an rca adapter tapped from the window sub & it was pre wired for subs so i just put my system in still using the factory radio and CD changer 🤣 ..it's gotten pretty boring listen to 3/6 CDs !!.. what does that plug go into thats left from the factory amp?

    Simpler way to find positive and negative on most speakers.... lay speaker face down with the terminals oriented to the 6 o'clock position..... 99% of speakers the positive terminal is on the right. To determine phase, use a AA cell, D cell, C, cell, or AAA cell battery in a single cell holder..... connect the positive and negative wires from battery holder to each wire. The speaker cone will move either in or out. If it moves in, reverse the wires .... When the POSITIVE terminal is connected to the positive speaker wire the cone will move outward, and then you know that you have identified the positive terminal, and repeating this for each speaker will assure that you have proper phasing. This does NOT work for tweeters, as you will not see the tweeters diaphragm move, and can also possibly damage the tweeter.
