    I just did this, thanks to your video and article you posted, and I cannot believe what a difference it made. I hadn't even realized that I was even missing out on anything. What ive learned with most car manufacturers is that it doesnt matter what features they put in your car the wireing is ussually there to plug into them so taking that into concideration if you find a truck without the bose sound system chances are there is a factory bypass plugged into the cross over plug and you wouldnt have to go threw this but its very interesting in case you cant find one in a junk yard you can still get it done

    As for those wanting to buy the harness O'Reillys sells the harnesses that will work. The harness is the same. But the pins inside are not. The one I bought didn't have enough pins in it so I bought two (2) harnesses so that I would have enough pins. And it worked beautifully.

    I know this is an old post so I may not get a reply, but im about to bypass the factory amp also and had a question. Did you have to use a 4 channel amp to send signals to the amp using the RCA and speed wire? As in RCA's to give the sub sound signal and speed wire for the door speakers? And if so do you have to splice the harness coming off the radio? thanks for the video!

    • @dabloesco
      @dabloesco Před rokem

      Sure you figured out by now but just in case LOL. If you are installing a sub only and have factory Hu you run a proper and that matches as close in rms not peak to you sub so sub handles 600 rms at 2 ohm then try and find a ame with a rms of 600 watts rms is steady power what it outputs like 1200 watt doesn't matter as much as rms in all speaker installs. Then your run the RCA and Renate wire which is what I assume your referencing as the speed wire. That goes into the back of Hu they make adapter for stuck headuncts called line convert out I think,, basically extra part I0 connect your rea and remote wire non of you already have aftermarket hardest which I wou ld get first for any upgrade you went need the loc it will have RCA and remote wire connect on radio harness already. Same goes for door speakers get a 4 channel run set of RCA and remote wire to headunit and then speaker wire goes from amp to each door speaker. You have a +/- wire going to each and that's how gu run aftermarket speakers and amp. You can also get a five channel amp, which will give you the same concept except you only have to run one set of RCA’s and remote wire(speed wire). There are other configurations and I’m pretty sure you can buy RCA wires to run directly in some head units and amplifiers. I’m sure there’s other tips in anyone will correct me if I’m wrong, but this is just a general explanation. Also, you will have to run your power wire and ground wire for the amp obviously but I didn’t mention that. Hopefully you were able to figure it out either way.

      Depends on the new head unit. I'd prob go with one or the other based on installation time/effort rather than performance if the difference is only trivial. You'd have to be more specific about your factory and new equipment if you wanted to get a specific answer though. Good luck on your project!

    Hello Steve my name is walter I love your video, question if I bypass my factor amp! Do I need to get a cross over so I can use my tweeters? Because I want to replace all my speakers also. What's the best way for me to do this, and get the best sound.

      there are mid-tweeter combo speakers that come with crossovers that you can plug and play.

    So..in response to one question you said yes your factory sub still works, then later you say it only powers the four door speakers. Which is it? I want to do this to keep the factory sub yet use the new head unit to power the four door speakers.

    • @TahoeSteve
      @TahoeSteve  Před 4 lety

      If done right, it can be reversed so the factory amp will work. However, once you apply the mod, the point is to use a better aftermarket amp.

  • @nateweiner8890

    • @Username-ng8jy
      @Username-ng8jy Před rokem

      My plan is to physically remove the amp. Maybe even go far as removing the wiring.
      I’m doing a full system in my 03 with Bose.
      I’m gonna trace and label each speaker wire. And tap in them thru the back of the radio. Or if not I’ll just tap into them from the factory amp location. I’m gonna put the amp under the passenger seat anyways. So I’ll need a short run from my speed wires to the harness at the amp. I’m not tryin to revert to stock anytime soon. Lol Bose is nice. But much nicer set ups out there. It is a bit dated. It’s time for an upgrade.

      @TahoeSteve  Před 7 lety +2

      @Edgar - In my situation, I have an aftermarket sub plugged DIRECTLY into the aftermarket amp. In this case, you do NOT need anything besides the Metra 70-2002. Keep in mind that the D Piller tweeters will not work though.
      IF you have an aftemarket amp and your sub is NOT wired directly to the amp, then you will need both harnesses as described on www.savagehomeautomation.com/projects/bypass-factory-ampcrossover-in-2002-chevy-tahoe.html.

    I’ve talked to you before. But now I’ve replaced all door speakers and they sound great but when I turn up volume high they start to distort and crackle. I imagine it’s because I had the Bose system so I’m thinking the Bose amp is putting two much power to the speakers. Because I have a 200 watt double din deck now not factory. If I disconnect the amp will that solve my problem at high volume? And if so can I just disconnect it totally or do I have to bypass like you did
