  • A powerful film showing the true plight of victims forced into marriage. With unprecedented access to the Manchester Police Force, this documentary investigates the biggest cases of forced marriage in the UK. In June 2014 it became illegal for someone to force a person to get married, the problem is how difficult this is to police to track and investigate these cases.

      Just to clarify as someone experienced by dispatch: Police is already underway.
      They type more info for later investigation and try to keep the caller on the phone in case things happens.
      In the end the called had already dispatched - the second such call comes in so does the address.
      That is why the police never are dispatched AFTER the call - they are on their way lol but your comment was funny

    Arranged/forced marriage should be classified as human trafficking. What's the difference between a pimp or trafficker selling a human being in exchange for money or property?

    • @zagrizena
      @zagrizena Před měsícem +1

      Arranged marriage, however unusual in our culture, is not immoral in itself. As long as both parties participate voluntarily, are given a chance to "meet their match" and potentially refuse the union, it's not illegal.
      Problems start, when marriages are arranged without consent, through duplicity or sheer force. And especially, when young people are forced to travel abroad to get married there under a different law, which might severely limit their rights within the marriage and their options to leave.

    • @lisawentworth6831
      @lisawentworth6831 Před 15 dny +1

      @@zagrizena It IS Immoral...it is the forcing of someone AGAINST their will! It is an arrestable offence! It is forced rape and beating that go along with it, and death if they try to refuse. That's as immoral as you get. Based on your name, it sounds like it' OK in your culture, but Western civilizations that have to uphold the safety of ALL people have to make laws that may bend other's cultures...big difference. Safety...it's for everyone, despite culture!

      @zagrizena Před 14 dny +1

      @@lisawentworth6831 which culture do you think I come from? 😀
      I do agree *forced* marriage is immoral and illegal. Having somebody else *arrange/match* a partner for you to marry, is not, as long as both prospective spouses agree. I'm simply differentiating between a forced (which is always somehow arranged) and an arranged (which doesn't necessarily need to be forced without consent) marriage. Or to put it bluntly: marriage based on romantic infatuation is not the only acceptable and legitimate way of choosing a spouse, even in the west.

    • @pattymelt-go3fv
      @pattymelt-go3fv Před 20 dny

      Too many.
      For sure.
      Let's be honest about human social structures.
      Nothing is simply black and white....there are always gray areas.
      Like the cast system in India...it's illegal but still comes into play.
      Or the class system in England....very much a part of British life today, despite all the laws in the UK.
      Humans will ALWAYS take advantage of religious and cultural practice unless they are stopped by law.
      And the laws must be enforced.
      That's part of the reason for the very existence culture and religion...To CREATE hierarchies in order to CONTROL.
      There are many positive aspects of Pakistani culture...or any culture.
      BUT...patriarchy or male social preference,
      DOES do damage in almost every country.....NOT just Muslim countries.
      It's been a long struggle for groups of people to achieve equality under law where their persecution has become enshrined by religion and culture.
      But, once there are laws protecting people, often it's hit or miss.
      And PLEASE...please let's not say that men don't also suffer from domestic abuse or cohesive control
      It's like saying people of color can't be racist...to say that women can't abuse their partners.
      Look at the example of "TJ" in this series...."TJ" is a woman.....and was busy abusing another woman.

      That 'costume' is her decision to wear. Not yours. Perhaps she's wearing it for the documentary, so people cannot see her face. Or, she wants to!
      On another note, your narrow minded opinion about a woman's freedom, is based upon her dress sense.
      For example, some people will say, a woman in clubbing gear, is asking for a sexual assault!
      How utterly ridiculous you are!
      Go and re-think your silly notions about a 'costume.'

      The thing is, is that it’s not that easy, it’s not a child’s job to punish their parents, teach them that what they’re doing is wrong, in law and especially religious law that it’s extremely wrong, culture likes to twist things to its advantage so these people have been raised to think it’s okay when it isn’t. The kids don’t want their parents put behind bars or whatever bc they’ll have nobody if they do, they sacrifice a lot and they don’t want to make it worse

    I am a male victim of this crime but us males are not highlighted.
    My life was ruined; I was 17 in 1994 when they pretended to take me on a holiday to Pakistan; once there they took away my passport and said to me "you ain't returning until you marry this thing and get her pregnant" . I was in a remote village without money or means of contact. The police ignored me there. I was used as a bridge by my parents and dad's sister to help her daughter to climb in the UK over my happiness. Can you put someone else's happiness over your sons happiness. If I could, I would love for her British citizenship to be revoked and see her returned to Pakistan and banned from coming to the UK. I hate her with passion.
    The funny things is this documentary totally ignored that it happens to young men. Probably not as much, but it does happen.

Every time they would meat and hang out, they both felt like they had to get along because they had to spend all there lives together. They never really liked each other, but they didn't hate each other. To them that was enough. When he left home the marriage was called off. Also, the British built much of the Infrastructure in India where there was NONE . Highways , Railroads etc. SUre much of the Lanour used was Indian, but the British used plenty of their own resources .
      Tell me . The British turned the reins over to India in 1947 , yet after 70 years of self rule , India still remains an Imoverished drveloping Nation. Look at Germany and Japan . They were devesated and lay in ruins after WW2, and yet surpassed India by the Early 60s. India has a much larger advantage than a Germany. Geoghraphically , and by Size .

    This reminds me of when I was in highschool. There was a girl in my science class that was from the middle east.
    She migrated with her family years beforehand. We had a new male student who had only been in the states for about three months.
    One day he stood up in the middle of class and pointed at the girl yelling at her in his native language. We were all wind eyed and confused. Then he threw a rolled up paper at her and yelled "COVER YOURSELF! YOU SHAME!" My teacher briskly walked over to him and smacked him with her teaching binder. Yelling back at him "You're not at home! She can have her hair like that if she wants. Sit down and shut up before I make you!" Apparently she spoke the language. XD Coolest teacher I've ever had.
    -I want to add I'm from a CA town that had a lot of immigrants from the middle east & west asia and that is the only time I've witnessed wild or rude behavior.

    As someone with a lot of Muslim friends, there were many girls I knew that would tell me about how their parents would threaten them with forced marriages if they didn't do well in school or were hanging out with boys. My friend Nasima was really quiet and secluded. She was part of my circle of friends and wore the most religious clothing out of my Muslim friends. She attended my high school for three years before she just disappeared. None of my friends knew where she wentand she never spoke about her home life so I never expected this to happen. I still wonder today whether she was forced into marriage or if she just moved. These documentaries about forced marriages have really made me reflect on what happened back then and I'm only seeing now just how radically different western and eastern cultures are. I hope the girls in the documentary stay safe and I hope the same for Nasima.

One young woman was badly mistreated by her in-laws and husband and had to flee from them without letting us know. I was her boss. She left me a message and I totally understood. Later, she contacted me and I was so glad to see she had a happy and much better life. Right here in the US. And 2 boys who worked for me had arranged marriages. I doubt they worked well, as they grew up watching their dad physically and emotionally abuse their mom. Both mom and dad worked for us, and I wish I could have beat him senseless. No one whows what child they get or the world would be a perfect place and i know the world isnt perfect dut to wars and natural disater that comes out way. So when it comes to blaming on what kind of child they have it not really a good idea. If you want blam then blame it on the nature of life.
