  • I cook some hotdogs using Walmart's Ozark Trail 7'' Stainless Steel Integrated Wood-burning Camp Firepit, The Pellet Man's Charcoal Pellets and a Turbokey 7" Round Cooling Rack from Amazon. The stove is awesome and puts out good flame and heat for its size. The Pellet Man's Charcoal Pellets were created by @DutchyOutdoorCookingBBQare were used simply to provide some charcoal flavor along with the small amount of wood I used. Adding the 7" rack allows me to cook over the stove in addition to cooking with a pot or pan on the stove.
    Overall the stove/firepit is great, the pellets gave the taste I hoped for and the 7" rack fit perfectly.
    I would strongly suggest all three.

    FYI, when a plane is flying over you stop the video and say, Take two. In your case you messed up nine times so I don't know what to say.

    This is excellent for emergency. Power outages when you need to cook for the family.

    Make your own charcoal pellets. Just put wood Pellets in a close metal container, and put it in your.campfire. Make sure you have a small hole in the end of can. As soon as the gases burn off remove from fire, let it cool down and then remove pellets.

    Thanks for sharing this video, like a lot of the other people I was considering trying to build one but now I think I'll just give Walmart some money

      Every once in a while Walmart gets something right. Especially in the camping/outdoor section. Thanks for checking my video out and commenting.👍

    I have tried building my own small wood stove similar to this. Why bother? For $40 you have a great little heater/cooker here. I was experimenting around for use with charcoal briquets, as well as wood. With my experimentation, I have found that 10-15 briquets are usually more than adequate for cooking a meal. My guess is this would work for briquets much better than any of my scratch built junk. I get the feeling this would cook much better with charcoal instead of wood.

      I found this through a review video while researching making my own. It was exactly what I wanted and at $40 made it not worth saving a dollar or two to make one. They also have a bigger one for $97 (still 1/3 a solo) but wasn't right for what I wanted. You can use any fuel you have on hand. I'm sure briquets would burn a little longer. I just tried the pellets because Steve is a long time YT buddy and I wanted to try them as well as support him. Thanks for checking out the video and commenting!👍

    Very cool. How did you start the fire? Ever use just smoker pellets in it? Was thinking it would be very easy to pack just pellets when overlanding. Plus there’s restrictions about hauling wood, it prevents transportation of pine Beatles

      I started the fire with paper towel under the wood and dropped a match. Not very hi tech! It lights very quick and easy. I have not tried just pellets...yet! Will be doing that and charcoal briquettes soon. Thanks for checking out the video!👍

    Are these accessories compatible with the real solo stoves?

    • @robertcrowjr
      @robertcrowjr  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Never actually seen a solo stove in person but I assume you could find a rack to fit. I like this stove because it comes with the ability to put a pot or pan on it without buying anything extra. It was a bonus that I found a round rack and the 7" fit perfectly. Thanks for checking it out.👍

      All good! I’ve been searching for an accessory that’ll hold a pot, or rack, on the mesa for a while with no luck. May just need to grab one of these guys at that price.

    I'm a little concerned about the warping of that rack. Should true stainless steel do that?

    • @robertcrowjr
      @robertcrowjr  Před měsícem +1

      For $12 off Amazon, I'm surprised it didn't burn up! It's a thin warming rack that I imagine is not designed for the heat that pit/stove puts out. It seems to work fine the few times I've used it. Thanks for checking out the video and the comment!👍

    Have successfully cobbled together numerous "wood gas" Solo type stoves from juice & soup cans over the years, because the price of "wood gas", Solo stoves has been prohibitivly high (between $100 & $200), in most cases. This Wal-Mart knock off, for about $40 is something that is much more reasonable. Could never understand how, and why retailers will have a product made in a 3rd world, low wage country, yet expect to be able to charge the same price as if it were made in the U.S. with American labour costs?

    • @robertcrowjr
      @robertcrowjr  Před 18 dny

      I agree. I looked at making my own the saw how "cheap" they were on Amazon. I saw a video on the Walmart version and decided it looked better than the Amazon stoves at half the price of the Solos. Thanks for checking out my video and the comment.👍
