Easy way to repurpose an old tool box into a functional kitchen cooking kit.
Mordoum Compact Burners amzn.to/3wS4927 - Jak na to + styl
What are the measurements of this tool box?
23 1/2 wide. 10 1/2 deep. 13 1/4 height
What is the name brand?@@Tiny-Campers
I think I got it from target many many years ago.
@@Tiny-Campers thank you!!
Stop at Walmart, grab a magnetic towel holder to attach to the side ofvyour tool box and you have a place to hang a dish towel or a roll of paper towels.
Great idea. Lots you can add with magnetic mounts.
@@Tiny-Campersthat very same magnetic paper towel holder can also be used in the side of your vehicle
A plastic hanger can be snipped in the middle of the long part and wear a roll of paper towels like earphones. Then hang the whole thing anywhere by the hook.
The wisdom of simplicity. The luxury of efficiency.
Considering you can find these tool boxes for practically nothing at garage sales or other places is actually a genius ideal going to have to definitely save this and remember it it will definitely work for my needs
Neat idea... I've seen people use the big rolling tool chests as kitchen cabinets in skoolies... this is great for smaller campers. A minor suggestion... use a circular saw to cut a groove in the back side of those cutting board pieces that match up with the lip at the front and back where the lid closes, It will make them less likely to slide around while cooking.
Thanks!
No built. Pure.
Great idea I would do a few things differently like get some magnetic hooks to hang utensils on and would cut the chopping boards differently to make a better fit also cut grooves in the underside to stop them sliding you could use some S hooks to hang stuff on too but a great concept
Can you send link to that video I’m currently building out a skoolie and that would help out a lot
@@DavidOrtiz-ne6mn Sorry. I didn't save any of the links.
Dude you're a flipping genius I love your idea
I use those gray silicone rubber hot mats from IKEA to stop plates and whatever from constantly sliding around on hard surfaces.
great idea
I would line the bottom of the drawers and maybe the sides of the inside with that grippie type drawer liners , maybe a little spray adhesive on the side ones. It will help alot with sound deadening. Just my thoughts.
Now THIS kitchen box recycling a toolbox we all likely have makes sense to me! Most box ideas I see are so cumbersome or takes too much room from the vehicle space. Thx for sharing! ✌🏾
I use an old military feild desk as a kitchen, It holds everything I need. I love it!
I have looked everywhere for something like this and you are the best I have seen
Pop the bubbles in the liner paper with a pin prick. Smooths out. 😁
You can gently use a credit card to push out the bubbles, also.
I love the simplicity and design of this camping box. Awesome job!
I too, have my kitchen in a metal toolbox! My toolbox stands 2 1/2 feet × 2 ft wide. It doesn't have drawers, but the door swings open and has a little shelf inside. I took off the small wheels, put toolbox on its side and the door opens flat so that I can it use as a prep space/cutting board. The stove area is wide enough inside, and I can cook in all kinds of wind. I don't take it out of the back of my suv. I open the hatch door, stand up, and cook. No one walking by would know what I was doing back there if it didn't smell like a restaurant (so I've been told😊).
nice!
I'll keep that in mind as I look for a tool box. Good idea.
This has been my biggest hold up setting up a Van is my kitchen and I think this has done it for me❤
Thats a great idea, I love to see stuff repurposed and camp kitchens are a bear to organize in the first place. Great video
You come up with some really great ideas!!!!I like that the butane or propane would be secured in a metal box.
😮 oh my gosh I'm so glad this came up in my feed because I saw, I believe my first one of his videos last night where he only had a few hours to travel to San Diego to help out that 85 year old woman by making her a bed. I'm only a few seconds into this video and I am in total awe with the toolbox idea.
Buy a plastic toolbox. You can buy any sizes and quality. No rattles, no wearing of paint and kitchenware's. My son uses one for years, good idea.
Where did he get it
Id caution against using the stoves on top of loose cutting boards....but LOVE the rest of this. 👍😎🇨🇦
Yes. Why not use the heat safe top as the cook surface?
THAT is brilliant!
Love this idea of repurposing a tool box.so easy to use & can be used inside or out.Only thing I would have to do is shorten the large cutting board to the same size as the small one as I would be worried about knocking the overhang whilst I was using the stove, which could be dangerous
And hinge the two smaller cutting board pieces together. (Fold to store)
@FidoHouse that is a great idea!
I was thinking that too. So you don't accidentally hit the cutting board while cooking and flip the stove.
I would like to see electric version of this for solar cooling. I like burners but i would leave them with out using cutting boards. You are very good at making things work and practical. Thank you. I have watched this couple times to come up with more ideas
You could put your cutting boards underneath your stoves, which would leave some more space to put other important kitchen stuff in that 2nd drawer you had the cutting boards in. Just a thought!
Great minds think a like. Tried that. Two boards made it too tall to close :)
I liked this idea too. But no contact paper! It looks pretty, but adds to the fire hazard.
But metal storage box. Brilliant! Thanks for sharing 😊
I have the same thing in my 6x12 cargo trailer except it is the much larger one (floor to counter height) and is built in under the counter. It's my favorite part of the build because it's so functional, holds a lot, is durable, easy to keep organized, and has one lock to keep all the drawers closed when moving. If I did another build, I would use one again.
Agreed. If you have the space , these are great
Absolutely always appreciate your solution based thinking in all your builds
Thanks!
2:01 now you’re gonna have me looking for the right toolbox in a yard sale
Best place to get them
That is a great idea! I like the reuse of the tool box. Thanks for sharing.
superb tidy kitchen! but, if I may, a piece of advice, you should return one of the 2 fires, so that the gas bottle is not near the flames👍
I thought those cans were supposed to be stored standing up
@kimdagnillo8246 ..mine arent..I have several in a backpack stacked..also isobutane cannister and a couple coleman propane. Been fine for 3 years..even in florida heat and cold
Can you please do something unique with the Stanley lunch box? Most people make a portable coffee station with it. I bet you can do better 😉
That's what I did and a small kuksa bowl for eating from..jet boil type stove..
1:20 this is an absolutely amazing idea. I’m constantly looking for ways of improving my car camper. Thanks for sharing.
You are welcome
Nice, makes for a great chuck box. Ya forgot one item. Small bottle of Dawn dish soap 😃👍
You cook with dish soap dodo bird 🦤? And no sink? Most people have the "dawn dish soap" near the collapsible sink or water source. AND Who is using DAWN SOAP in the wilderness 😂. It's. It biodegradable and hating to the environment
@@solovantravel yes I cook with it my dodo egg.🥚 It's the best, you never knew? Maybe you should stay with ya mama dodo egg. She could wash the dishes and cook for you. No worries about the silly environmental dodo egg cause ya no longer exist. See there! 🍳🖕😄🤣
I told my wife years ago to use roll around toolboxes for her kitchen cabinets. That way you can move wbpverything to clean , relocate, etc. plus the drawer slides can withstand heavy loads and they run smooth. Tops can be made out of whatever material you desire, wood, tile, marble. She thought I was crazy. Then she said you would do it if you were a bachelor. I said yes I would.👍👍👍✌🏻🇺🇸🙏🏽😎
Wow tool box cooking station 😮🎉
I definitely doing this !
Thanks for such a great idea 😊🫶
You’re welcome 😊
Love this! I'm OCD though, I'd of cut the bigger cutting board to match the length of the smaller one too. And glue that extra piece to the small one. 😂 That's not considered 'building' on a no-build, is it?
haha, I didn't want to go buy another cutting board just to be the same.
My OCD/Perfectionist brain was screaming at the video...but the boards don't match up!!...lol.
Great job and savvy too. Might just get me a toolbox just for cooking!
@@Christine112359 haha. make one just to satisfy the matching board itch!
I’m so sorry for people that say they have OCD. It’s such a disabling and life interrupting disease of the mind. My mother has a severe form and It’s terrible. Has serious childhood rooted causes that are often embarrassing so I am always shocked when people announce to the world they have it
This is genius!
Love this idea!
Thank you! 😊
Nicely done! I love your idea.
Genius’s idea!! Thanks so much!!!!
That's very cool!!!
Never thought the kitchen equipment is so easy to set up, then can cook wherever you would like!!!
Thanks for sharing, I think this is a brilliant way of re-using of an old tool box!
Absolutely enjoyed your episode, what a great idea perfect for limited space so much that I'm going to adopt this, thanks keep up the great work.
Genius. I would never have thought of this
I love this idea; it’s small and compact. I have one on my channel but it’s a much heavier tool box with wheels however I’ll be looking for one like yours for more compact use. Thanks for sharing this.
I like your setup. I'd put your napkins in a Ziploc bag. Thanks for sharing 🤘
Yes..keeps them clean and they don't blow away!!
Fabulous idea!! I’m doing this!! Thank you-you’re a genius!!!
I saw someone at a Ren Faire use a Snap On Tool Box as his kitchen many years ago - THIS is nice and compact! LOVE this and thank you!
I love this kitchen. Such a great idea. I use the same burner and nesting pots; theyre the perfect size for solo camping ❤
Absolute genius!
That's a great idea!! I've got an old toolbox I might have to try something like this for my mini hotplates and cooking gear. Thanks for sharing!
It is easy once you have the tool box. Hope the guitar is working out for you.
Oh yes! I'm loving it!! @@Tiny-Campers
Great idea and works well. Just what you need. I made a chuck box out of correx/coroplast!
This is such a great idea! I can't believe how much fits inside the box.
Contact paper can be smoothed with a credit card. Scoot the bubbles to the edge. If you have a contrary bubble puncture it with a pin and flatten.
Very clever!! Love it❣️👏👏👏👏
Great idea tremendous video. This is how you think out of the box. Keep up the great work . 🤣👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🌴😎🌴
Thanks 👍
My 2 cents on top of the liner, get some of the silicone/ plastic liner to minimize the rattle on washboard roads.
When you get those bubbles after application, just use a razor blade to put a tiny slit on the bubble, then use a credit card or nylon squeegee to push the air out of the slit that you made. This will give you a smooth application.
We used tool cabinets in our class b for the kitchen and overhead cupboard. Works great so far
Great video. You packed that well!
Awesome idea! Thanks for sharing
Awesome set up and creativity! Love it.
Great idea and use of space 👍
Wow this is a Awesome 💡 & you can change Area around or take it outside to cook ! Everything in one place! 👍👌✌️🤞🙌🙏🌟🇺🇲🌻🤩
Excellent job and a great idea.
This is very cool. Thanks for sharing the idea!
NICE job... I've been car-camping since the 60's and this is a great option! I think I would rework the cutting board idea a bit, but again... GREAT idea/job!!!
Fantastic idea! Thank you.
Great video, great idea. Thanks for sharing!
Great, great idea fora galley! Enjoyed the video.
This is incredibly clever!
I took a free stainless steel grill with one burner on the side with lid closer. Burner still works so I keep it in. I had a marble slab cut ,added four brackets inside and placed the marble where the grill was. It has a double door cabinet under it. I placed a plywood on the bottom. I store my pots. I got tired of the stainless top / open and closed/ so I removed it and placed it out side ( making a fire oven. But I love my roll away cutting board island. This is a cool ideal with the tool cabinet.
Well, that is really something great. Will copy this for my pickup and sailboat... since it's so mobile. ❤
Really cool idea! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Brilliant, well done!
Awesome hack!
Well done. Such a great idea.
Great hack I love it. Thank you for sharing.
Love it!!
I'm going to do this. Great idea.
Great idea!
Awesome set up
Love it absolutely love it
Thank you for a great video. We ended up purchasing a Roto Cast Chuck Box that was similar to the old plywood Scout patrol kitchens, but weighed 1/3 what a patrol box weighs empty. It was pricey but going on 10 years old and it is still in near new shape. It is made by York now and still a US manufactured product so the carbon footprint is smaller for new. I like that it s plastic so it can be left outside on a table at camp and closed up it is water tight. Roto Cast plastic dose not get hell hot or frost bite cold either. This is not important to fair weather campers, but for me is important. My tool boxes all have tools in them... It is Called The Chuckbox Camp Kitchen. It has fit even in the Jeep Patriot camper setup. I love the portability of these types Kitchen boxes. I like that one person can take it to a picnic table at a rest area while cross country or state traveling. I love your setup because you reused an item you already had, and it takes up very little space. Thank you again for the video. Safe travels.
sounds like you have a nice setup
Great idea. Thank you
It would be cool to add in a sponge ,steel wool and some dish soap for cleanup
Great idea!!
😄👍Good Stuff, Great Tip for Game day Tailgate
You always come up with super good ideas. Thanks for posting this video.
You are welcome!
That is pretty awesome.
Love this!!
You are really thinking outside the box here. Good idea.
I am sure I have old tool box or find a thrift store or swap meet.
Brilliant!
Awesome idea! You can change things up as you go too👍🏻
Definitely! Add and remove stuff.
Nice idea!
Cool idea!
Brilliant!!
A perfect chuckbox!🙏👏
Thats pretty neat. Good effort. 👍
Awesome idea!
Take a box knife and put a small slit in the air bubbles to smooth them out.
Great idea. For me the cost of the butane is not efficient or price effective for long time spent in the backcountry for me. Utilize propane when I have too, but prefer open fire cooking. Doesn't cost anything but time and effort.
