Some people of this ethnicity consider it offensive and hateful to be called "Gypsy" while some don't mind it and even call themselves that.
*Please note that "Romani" and "Romanian" are not the same thing!! "Romani" is an ethnicity while "Romanian" is a person living in Romania. (For example I'm romanian but not romani).

I'm certain someone else has mentioned it but Travelers and Gypsies are two distinctly different groups of people. Travelers are of Gaelic Irish descent, whereas Gypsies are Romani. It's two different parts of the world. There are many Romani people who do not like being called gypsies, as it's now seen as a slur due to history.
Mostly due to perscustion from European nations who think they were a âlesser peopleâ. Hitler didnât just round up Jewish people, they were just the majority he also rounded up gypsys and a few other groups as well if I remember right
It's especially true in Europe, I remember like last year or something there was some controversy and a lot of European people were talking about Romani like they were literal rats. It seems American Romani folk turned it around into a sort of pride thing on the other hand and that's why a lot of Americans aren't aware + the cultural snowball
Is Romani the proper term, then?
@@caidalee1994 or Roma
This is not true. I am from the UK, and here we refer to what is formally known as 'Irish Travellers' as Gypsies. The community also refer to themselves as Gypsies. Please don't tell us what we do, and do not, call people from our own, and neighbouring, countries. In the UK and Ireland if you refer to someone as a 'Gyspy' you mean Irish Traveller. If you are referring to a Romany Gypsy, they will always be specified as a 'Romany Gypsy' instead of 'Gypsy'. Again - IRISH TRAVELLERS REFER TO THEMSELVES AS GYPSIES WHICH IS WHY THE TV SHOW IS CALLED BIG FAT GYPSY WEDDING. Don't assume you know everything about something in another country just because in YOUR country, you might to refer to them as something different. Be more aware that there are other cultures other than just the American perspective.

its always people not from minority groups being offended for them these days
I think it's when pasty blond white girls put on a flower crown and call themselves "such a gypsy" and use someone's actual way of living as an aesthetic that people get upset but I could be wrong đ€·đ»ââïž
"they live in mobile houses, how do they get $150 000 to throw up on a wedding?"
Is anyone going to tell Ken? Or should I do it?
Probably pass the wealth to the next generation to own a home one day?
I actually have no idea
They arent buying homes because they live in mobile homes.
@@carochan86My family lives in mobile home having 500k in their name (My parents)
3 years till we buy one, and for now we do trade/restate
Let's say, they are able to get that much money BECAUSE the have MOBILE homes.
With no smack down I'm lost đ€Żđ€Łâ€ïž
The "Teddy Experience!" LMFAO!! đ€Ł
I have always wondered what the families do to afford these lavish weddings. The bride in this episode was beautiful. Their customs are different from what I am accustomed to, but who am I to say?
Same
As they said, the money doesn't get loose because in most communities money goes to the family back. Like you as a traveller buy a shirt in a store but the store owner is part of your family.
I also assume that they cut money on many other things so that they can finance themselves. Like if they don't stay long in school, they start working early and earn money, no school or university costs ect and general family support I guess.
Reminds me of some people I knew that were definetely not rich at all but still could "affort" a luxury life as it seems from the outside but they cut down on other necessities for that
The travellers where Iâm from in England that can afford things like this have very few expenses- just think where a normal persons pay check goes to and how much money you would have if that wasnât taken away.
They donât pay rent, they donât pay taxes, many donât even pay utilities.
Most travellers work in trade industries- building, cars etc. almost all self employed.
It is a insult to call someone a Gypsy over there, theyâre treated like a second class citizen as well in my county âRomaniaâ
Yeah the correct term in Roma/Rom/Romani
In England the ones calling themselves gypsies tend to be terrible people.
Love your videos Ken and buffpro
I guess the cameras and the lady had to step out for the "I do"
Ripple effect rose đč quick.
