    Just picked this model up about 2 weeks ago, and I love it. Great sound, and it's a lot of fun to scan through AM and shortwave bands. Less than $30.00, Canadian. An excellent little radio.

    Nice little radio without a big investment. I totally forgot about the wire on the antenna thing. Kinda like tin foil on the TV rabbit ears.

    I ordered that. Is long time from my radio era with cheap radios and great enthusiasm. I had used that wire antenna to get FM reception to better. It works.

      I think (If I remember right) its 25 feet. It was just a spool of wire I got from radio shack years ago, I did not cut it or alter it just put the alligator clip on the end to attach to the antenna. It works very well if you can get it up in the air.

    It's tough to argue with good performance at that price...I could have one in every room of the house plus cellar lab and garage for the cost of one Grundig YB-400, and they wouldn't go through batteries like the YB does. Sure, it doesn't have presets, a groovy readout, memories, or a BFO, but who needs 'em?...and I wouldn't cry if it got sat upon either...next time I have a twenty burning a hole in my pocket, I'll have to get one and see how it works for me. Glad to hear your wife is doing good! I've been watching videos from people living by the fires in California and one guy was talking about the importance of having a good scanner or radio to find out what's going on with law enforcement and updates about emergency situations. I realized im not prepared enough in this area. I dont want a ham license but was thinking about something like this radio you just reviewed. Perfect timing! Im putting this one on my Christmas list! Thanks George! Is there anythong else i should look for, a scanner or something?

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  Před 5 lety +1

      Sadly after people posted audio of the Oct 1 shooting online, the sheriff in Vegas encrypted the scanners so no one can listen. However I can still hear Henderson, and other areas, just not metro. If you want to do it, you would need to get a decent digital scanner as all of this area of S Nevada has gone digital and they run around 300 to 400 bucks. I can show you how to set it up its not all that hard.

      У вас продаются специальные аварийные радиоприемники у которых короткие волны представлены на тех частотах на которых работают станции оповещения об опасности.

    Glade your wife is OK, wishing her a speedy recovery. What is the optimal wire size and
    length for shortwave antenna?

    • @Iridium242
      @Iridium242  Před 5 lety

      I would say any length of wire will do, as long as you get it up to a decent height, like 10 feet or so. Remember you are not cutting/tuning it to transmit on, just receive. Because the shortwave bands are spread over a wide area, it would be nearly impossible to cut it to the perfect length, as each band needs a certain length of antenna, so get it as long as you can reasonably and enjoy!
