    So good to find someone who has genuine love for the Tomb Kings. I too am also building up my old army I made well over 20 years ago. With a huge Chariot unit. I remember painting them and fielding them for the first time in Bolton against a Vampire Counts army and getting absolutely destroyed but I was so proud of them. I will be following your army build. I'm painting mine in the colours of Numas. Can't wait to get my preorder soon. All the best.

    You can actually build the Necrosphinx / War Sphinx kit so you can use either at any time, it just requires a few pins and everything just clips together so you don't' actually waste any of the bits....

    I dug up my old Tomb Kings army from the past. I had compeletely forgot that I had used spare Skeleton Archer arms on some Skeleton Warriors. Trinkets and bits of bandage here and there may feel insignificant but they add to the overall look of the unit, as did using Chariot crew bits for command group. I had also converted unique hand weapons for my main unit using spare bits from Chaos Marauders and even some from 5th edition Saurus Warriors. Few warriors even had loincloths made from spare TK banners but I don't remember how I did the belts for them...
    I can't wait to build more of those silly skeletons.

    Hi, just found this vid by coincidence. Being around with Warhammer then more than 40 years ( 3rd Edition ) I am very pleased to see The Old World, as I missed the Warhammer world quite a lot. Age of Sigmar became a good game over the years but it can not replace our beloved rank and file game. Now on Tomb Kings : I have to say, they were the last on my list of Armies I wanted to possess over the course of many years, as their rules back then left a bit to desire compared to, say Skaven. Since I had already mass armies like O&G , Skaven , Empire, as well as some more elite ones like Warriors of Chaos, it took time until well into 8th. Edition until I was more deeply interested in TK. But I have to admit, being a lover of ancient egyptian history, the ( the TK ) nagged on my for some. So finally I decided to give it a try and bought a few characters, made mof metal back then, among others Callida and Settra. Ind when I was just about purchasing the rest of the Army, GW decided to pull the plug on WHFB....while I was not really totally happy with 8th. Edition, (liked 6th, but even more 7th.) I saw no reason to pull the plug on a 40 year old world full of lore, magic, wonders, just as and I think beyonf JRR Tolkiens Middleearth. Moreover, giving it up for what...Age of Sigmar ? a loveless conglomerate of unit-files with no history and , most probably back then, no future too. Very sad story. Anyways, now the old world is back. And TK got the most prominent seat in the new car, which was not to be expected. So I jumped in with both feet, ordered the TK Core box, the Tomb-Knights and the Necrosphinx. I got the box a week ago and I have to say, knowing the quality of 40k/AoS of late, I was positively surprised. Actually, I cannot confirm your experience with moldlines on the skellies. The plastic seems a bit different to what I am used to in AoS bit the casts look great and I can't waiti to assemble and paint them. Unfortunately, I still have a few other ongoing projicts which I need to finish first...among other partially rebasing some of my WHFB Armies to use them in TOW...and two larger armies of 4 divisions each for Hail Caesar....Late republican Romans and Gauls..about 300 minis each force....and I am half way through...so I will follow your vid-series closely . You got a sub and a like, of course...

    Have you considered using Tomb King Blood Bowl bits? The collars and cloth heads work really well with the infantry. If you feel a bit taboo, you could make your own moulds to make lots of these.
    I am in a similar position where I mix up my tomb guard bits into the skeleton warriors. Though I 'debling' them slightly by making them less fancy. Additionally if you trim the top of the Tomb Guard helmet it looks like one of the regular leather helms for the warriors.
    Having looked around for ideas online for years now I really like mixing a tomb guard with the warriors to make special champions for my base units. Usually giving them a TG shield, helmet and similar to the banner and musician. Much like you do yourself!
    Should you ever have spare Necropolish Knight riders (due to making the stalkers) then these make great riders for Tomb Guard chariots. You can then use the original chariot rider bodies to your basic units and also turn them into champions.

    Starting Tomb Kings for TOW here (haven't touched WHFB since like 1998!), so excited. Not that excited though that the TK models are the same from 2003 when they were released (and Im pretty sure those skeletons are the same as the older ones with a different accessories sprue for TK aesthetics, so even older) but the nostalgia is definitely there.

      Honestly, I thought I'd be bummed out that the kits hadn't even been looked at (same mould etc... lazy imo) but the grin as I was building the unit could not be hidden... I was buzzing haha

    Subscribed as someone who is re-joining the hobby 15 years after i left when I was 16. Very excited to start my tomb kings army when the box arrives, although it's daunting as I'm effectively starting from scratch. One thing I am thinking of is making my necrodragon more like a construct (so painting the bone as if it were the blackened stone on the ushabti). Sounds like a way to work around the "oldness" of the base kit as you say is to add in a little bit of variation using primarily the tomb guard kit. Are there any others you'd recommend?

    • @ChrisFrosin
      @ChrisFrosin  Před 6 měsíci +1

      The Necrosphinx kit has 4 skeletons with armour and cool weapons and heads that you can mix in, too. Especially if you build it like I have/am doing as a Necrosphinx and not the warsphinx with the howdah on top (I'm not a fan of that looking model)

  • @Alf_Hairy-arse
    @Alf_Hairy-arse Před 6 měsíci +1

    Super excited to get mine. I went for the box and books initially, but then went back later for necrosphinx and tomb guard so I could combine the parts. Very pleased to see you have done that so I know it will work.
    I was thinking about trying the sphinx howdah on the bone dragon instead of the silly floaty one. As you have both kits, do you think this would work, or is it too big?

  • @blastvader
    @blastvader Před 6 měsíci +1

    Would say that the two books released for ToW have a lot less in common with the 6th edition Ravening Hordes and much more to do with the 1st edition Forces of Fantasy and 2nd edition Ravening Hordes as they are not get-you-by lists but THE lists. They're not 40k style Indexes, they're HH2.0 Liber 'X' but for ToW.

    I remember as a kid going into a Games Workshop and looking at the models but wasn't in the hobby yet. I do love the models and plan to get a Tomb King box when I can, Lizardmen aren't getting full support, boooo, so second choice it is. Otherwise I'm hoping for new models soonish for things like Ushabti before I get any of them.
    edit: Am looking forward to your bronze metallic scheme as I was thinking along those lines to be more "realistic" for Egyptian style equipment.

    Can't you use skulls from the Citadel Skulls box to replace those oversized old heads? This box comes with like 100+ human skulls in different variations. These should be more to modern scale? Or (bit more expensive route), kitbash with the AoS Soulblight Gravelords?

    For the initial launch of the game I have to say I am really supprized GW cheaped out so much with reusing such old models. Does not look good for an inital launch. Was going to buy this set until I saw the poor state of the models.

      They have a charm, but selling 20+ year old models for 2024 prices is kinda ridiculous.
