  • See how to upgrade your car that does NOT have a cabin air filter slot or inlet to being able to have a car that provides cleaner air with a cabin air filter. Click on SHOW MORE for all tools 🛠️ and supplies you need. Please 👍👍👍 AND Subscribe 🔔 if this helps. This is being done on a Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, or a Dodge Magnum. #FixCarYourself
The old Cabin filter separator aka the black plastic thing does not have a slot and the old useless piece has to be removed. Then a new piece which is an actual cabin air filter inlet has to be installed. Expect this job to take 2 hours to do.
⚠️⚠️⚠️ Doing this job is at your own risk so do this carefully, and if not comfortable doing it yourself, then hire a mechanic 🧑‍🔧 which will probably charge you anywhere from $200 to $500 total.
Please mention in the COMMENTS what other car models this improvement works on. So far it has been verified that it works on the Charger, Magnum, and 300.
These are all the tools 🧰 and supplies you'll need:
    Power tool amzn.to/35VxnvN
    Flat head screwdriver amzn.to/3wbHuZd
Pry bar or trim stick amzn.to/3eiB9mG
    Ratchet Wrench 3/8" amzn.to/2JiEG9d
    Socket Set short 3/8" amzn.to/2THxwxi
    Torque Wrench 3/8": amzn.to/3jLg4CN
    OPTIONAL:
    Tape
    Garden Hose or cleaner
    Shop Vacuum
This is the Actual or UPGRADED part you need which is called the Engine Fresh Air Inlet Plenum, which contains the cabin air filter slot....the ONLY part you need other than the actual cabin filter.
    The part model number is:
    4806294AD 👉 www.ebay.com/itm/325279146814
    OR part model number 4806294AB 👉 amzn.to/32xxk84
    OR part model number 4806294AA 👉 amzn.to/3aoaQLs
    OR part model number 4806294AC
ℹ️ You may be able to find it on Ebay or Amazon from the links above but they are expensive if they become available. Click above ⬆️ to hopefully grab the slot or inlet, and then install if interested, then later you can buy the actual cabin air filter which varies in brands and prices.
    Here are some below:
Types of Cabin Air Filter's to choose from:
PG Cabin Air Filter PC5677 amzn.to/3bIOxR7

This video was made to show a better solution to fixing this problem all because of all those who commented and said how many vehicles didn't come equipped with this cabin filter slot. It's because of people like you 🙂 a solution was found, so for ALL of those people, THANKS 👏 for making a difference to others!!! and hopefully this new video provides a little bit of comfort knowing that a solution does exist for some models.
Hopefully you found this video to be valuable and that future OEM's will think about your health and safety. The world must quickly adapt to be more more health conscious so this seems like something other car company's should focus on.

Oh brother, I know i'm 2 years late on this video... We had a check-up on our old 2006 Chrysler 300 AWD Touring at our local tire shop today; they ran a test and said we just needed to replace our old cabin air filter. They wanted to charge us $70 to replace our old filter. But, we decided to buy our own filter and do it ourselves.... ha ha! The jokes on us....... there is no Cabin air filter housing! I sure they knew this... and would have called us later to say "it's gunna cost way more money". I think we will just clean out the blank space and vacuum really well and call it a day. 215,000 miles on this old gal and we've sunk a lot of cash into her ailing parts. Engine still strong, trans still strong. We have to put fuel injector cleaner in every other gas fill to keep all her throat/cats clean. Crazy how these 300's can just keep going and going. Fantastic video for those who have a lot health issues/asthma/allergies!

I agree. I only did this because lot of people were looking for a solution, and I realized Chrysler had a solution and apparently they just didn't want others to know about...that and because they were penny-pinching and didn't care about their customers health and come standard with these cabin filter slots.
Anyway it took me a couple hours to do. Not hard, but time-consuming.

Glad this helped and its a shame the early 2000 models didn't think to include it to benefit their customers health. Also you might want to hold off on upgrading with your Dodge Caravan or any Jeep vehicle, as it can not be upgraded at least I haven't been told of a solution yet. So far only the Charger, 300, & Magnum have been officially confirmed to be upgradeable.
I'll definitely add the Caravan to the list on the other video for all those vehicles that don't come with a cabin filter. Hoping others complain to Dodge about this and that they make an update to help older car models, but don't hold your breath.

However, I actually did try to get it behind and had a lot of difficulty to the point where it really didn't matter because the cabin filter was doing its job to help capture any particulates. Thanks! The inside does not have any form of cabin air filter on the inside other than what you see in the video. BUT that would be a great idea to have a 2nd filter (or multiple) at each heated air vent to capture the other particles that may get through. At the same time, this would cost the manufacturer a lot of money adding mini filters at each heated vent...so unlikely they will do that. Hopefully future car models will think like Tesla and design a cabin filter that is just as great at capturing the pollutants that enter into the car.

Can’t you just stuff the filter inside there without changing it out?

    • @FixCarYourself
      @FixCarYourself  Před 2 lety

It depends. If you live in an area where it rains a lot or you leave your car parked outside, then probably not as the filter could get wet. Also if the cabin filter is pushed/stuffed in...its not really tight on the area where the outside particles or leaves, etc., can enter into the car. So it would be mostly ineffective.
I thought about doing this as well, but the main problem is if the filter is not tight, then leaves will also get in between. Still better than nothing and probably ok to do if long if you don't have health problems. If so then it might just make more sense to buy the cabin filter housing unit.
