agreed. It just speaks to the thing Matt and Trey spoke about with the whole Isaac Hayes situation. "How can you be offended by this one thing when we have done so much to offend everybody else?"Being offended is so subjective and arbitrary. And you literally cannot watch and like south park and be offended by some episodes and not other because that just makes you a huge hypocrite.

@@splinte111 I think it caused more criticism, because it was directed at the catholics believe in saints and wonders. Rather than a generalized attack on jesus. Like Christians are used to people making fun of jesus and jesus himself even said that they shouldn’t attack someone on his behalf and that people aren’t at fault for their own disbelief in him. But the Catholic Church values saints and mother marry, because they have suffered for their faith. An ideal Christians still to this day value. And they get defensive when someone is attacking martyrs, wich can’t defend themselves and often even died because they have been attacked for their beliefs.
In their head they defend fellow humans not god, who doesn’t need them defending people.

Band in China did change a lot of things, we knew something really bad would happen when we first saw the title of this episode. One hour after this episode came out, everything about South Park was wiped out of Chinese internet, and we were not allowed to post anything related to South Park on social media, or our account will be directly deleted. However we all love this episode, because nobody hates censorship more than us as we are living under censorship. South Park is the best.

I think the main "issue" with South Park is that you have to watch an entire episode and actually think about it to understand the point they're trying to make. it's like blatant offensiveness stacked together to create a pretty nuanced take away. but watch any clip out of context or watch an episode without critical thinking skills and you come away thinking an entirely different message is being conveyed. I've met a lot of ppl who think South Park is siding with them when they're either against them or making an entirely separate point entirely.

He represented australia as a whole, with how he would wrangle wild animals so easily while also treating them respectfully. It’s kinda hard to compare him to someone since America is kinda shitty when it comes to that with people always ending up controversial or some other bullshit, but to Australia, Steve Irwin was probably the nicest guy on earth while also being able to wrestle crocodiles.

Call it bad parenting if you want, but between the two of us, I was the one who understood the message was anti-hate while my dad decided ginger was a slur and always had been. We're both redheads. He used the episode as evidence of redhead hate despite neither of us ever being bullied for being redheads (quite the opposite, we both get regular compliments about how lovely our hair is). I gotta say something about the redhead Cartman episode, saying that it singlehandedly set off a worldwide thing. The ginger thing has been around for a very long time. As a kid with neon red hair, I got mad flak in the 80s and 90s. I went to multiple schools due to moving a lot, and it was the same at all places, so it wasn't just a one-off thing. As some form of an attempt at consolation, older people would tell me about other people they knew that were teased for having red hair. It's discussed in the book Anne of Green Gables (published in 1908), where Anne, a redhead, was teased at school for her red hair. I'm sure a plethora of examples exist for other places and times as well. I know there were jokes about teasing redheads and redheads not having souls in British comedy shows prior to this SP episode. The SP episode may have brought it to light somewhat, but it certainly didn't kick off a worldwide trend.

It's always funny when young people say "South Park hasn't changed in years, and only now it's controversial", completely unaware of its past.

That doesn't track. South Park literally made a character who swears constantly but since you can't understand him, it passes and they killed him every episode for like the first 5 seasons and movie. Until he literally died and they brought him back briefly as a ghost possessing one of the other characters. Then Snookie want Smush Smush. 😐

It's controversial with the opposite crowd, which would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad. It went from overbearing church moms and stuck up prudish conservative zealots to stuck up prudish "liberals" (very heavy quotes there) who cry every form of phobia and ism they can when they see literally anything they don't like. Human beings will be easily offended pussies. Be it they cry homophobia, or blasphemy.

It’s really difficult to describe how cool South Park was when it first came on. First of all, you had to have Comedy Central and essentially no one had Comedy Central back then…so you’d have to go to a friend’s house. The show was unlike anything that came before it…not necessarily in its offensiveness but just that it rang totally true. The kids talked like we did, the situations were ridiculous and the entire adult cast was almost impossibly stupid. For 13 year old me, it was a *total* revelation. I don’t remember the controversy of its early existence so much as it feeling truly countercultural and hip.

this might be the most ironic thing ever said but south park genuinely teaches a lot of really valuable and important lessons especially for americans. my dad loved south park from its release and my “childhood show” was south park and honestly i feel like it hasn’t impacted me in any negative way. i honestly think it’s helped me not see people for races or sexualities etc. it’s a stupid, dumb, yet genius show

It's for everyone, not just americans. Humans, in general, can take heed to South Park's messaging. Nation, creed, sex, color, none of it matters unless it pertains to the subject being satirized. 😂

@mallowmarsh3244 true, can't argue there, just don't forget the weird shit China's pulling too. We have become quite vapid here in the states, all for Social Credit points nobody's even tracking.
Meanwhile, in China, if you cut someone off in traffick or tell your boss to fuck themselves suddenly you can't go to certain restaurants/social events, drive on the highway or be allowed to buy a home because they literally keep a SC Score.
The world is nuts in many different ways. 😅

And Japanese killing Whales and Dolphins because US said they nuked them, and later making them believe it was cows and chicks so they become "normal" 🤣

I always thought the Steve Irwin bit was a great way to poke fun at how people pretend to be sad when a celebrity dies. Satan confronts Steve Irwin saying he thinks his outfit is offensive because Irwin just died. After Steve explains he's the real Steve Irwin, Satan tells him he has to leave because it's a costume party lol. I vaguely remember people judging the way the Irwin handled animals and many comedians made fun of him for it. So to see people flip to his side entirely after his death was weird. I wonder if Matt and Trey had this in mind or if I'm just reading too much into it. Regardless I think the joke is more relevant today with it feeling like celebrities die more often.

I've always felt that the Church of Scientology played a huge roll in the death of Mr. Isaac Hayes. He apparently was forced to sign waivers declaring NOT to perform medical services on him after his stroke. With the church stating his health concerns were "minor".
Yeah that didn't work out so well did it....? And this seriously got swept under the rug. Pure sadness. The show isn't as great without Chef. His presence played a large portion of humor for the show. Since day one!!! Chef was there!! "Hello Children" was one of my favorite lines. The way he said it even though there was only one person he was speaking to.
An amazing person (Hayes) is gone but immortalized in our hearts 💕🥰 and not forgotten.
