Why am i, an EU citizen watching a video aimed at US citizens?

I'm Dutch and I like the Germans.
Therefore I often read books fór the Germans, about the Dutch, ín German, so that I not only rehearse my German, but I also read about the German perspective on the Dutch.

As an, obsessed Eurovision fan from the USA, this video is what I needed to get my reluctant friends involved. Thank you
otherwise you could train and be powerful enough to force them.

Ok WAIT. I had no idea the musicians on stage couldn't actually play their instruments live. This is earth-shattering news to me. I've paused the video to reflect on this. This changes so much.
It’s possible Epic Sax guy doesn’t actually know how to play the sax! (He does I kid.)
@@overthinkingit uhm F1 is also exciting as well if it's on a circuit where racers can overtake each other it will be very exciting and fir example Australia grand prix it was due to 3 red flags because crashes or a technical problem with the car that it was exciting until the last moment but like the EBU the FIA has also some doubtfull descissions so as letting the race end behind the safety car instead of doing a lap longer

not since always, rules are always changing, in the old days they did use them, there was even an orchestra playing live.
@@cravinho7There was one orchestra playing music for all the songs. Which became obsolete by the 90s and replaced by a prerecorded track.
As an American, I got into it because of the Will Ferrell movie back in June 2021. Jaja ding dong, double trouble and husavik are my favs from the movie. This led me to a rabbit hole into that year's Eurovision which led me to find Blind Channel and Go_A my favorites. To officially following it last year and this year. It led me to discover some awesome artist and learn more about the languages and cultures of these European countries in which I didn't know anything about 😅. I thank Eurovision for that and so happy we can now vote! 🥳 still wondering how that is going to work. If anyone knows, is it through the app or the number that is on the screen in the semis?
They still haven't revealed which countries will be able to vote, how the voting will work (probably online), or how much each vote would cost, but I do know it will require a credit card to sign up.
can you vote this year from the usa? really? that's cool! greetings from europe🇨🇭 and an esc fan
and ps:vote for Switzerland ❤😂
I was told that all the votes from non-participating countries will be counted as if it were only one country in the televote. As a Brazilian myself, I am also excited to finally be able to vote. I first watched the Eurovision Song Contest in Tel Aviv back in 2019 and I've been a huge fan ever since!
well, Nel Blu, Dipinto Di Blu (volare) by Domenico Modugno was SO popular in 1959, he got two Grammys after reaching the 3rd place in eurovision 58.
also, Love the notion: If you don't like the song - wait three minutes. /very American.
Yet another Overthinking it masterclass!
Me, a Filipino watching this: Yeah yeah yeah agreee 🤩
As an American I’ve always wanted to watch Eurovision, but it was never really easy to find access to it. Thanks to Peacock I finally started watching it in 2021!
There are always CZcams live streams, if all else fails ;D
@@florenna CZcams livestreams have been blocked in the USA since 2016.
The EBU doesn't live stream it on the official channel??? I thought it did, I think I watched the semis last year there 🤔
@@Bpopclover it’s geo blocked :(

If your internet speed is good, VPN will solve this (Brave browser for PC or Orbot for Android would suffice). Netherlands or Norway are good proxy choices.
Fair play, lad. Great video. And you’re right about the family fun aspect. I can still remember watching my first Eurovision with my clan back in Dublin 🇮🇪 in 1978 when Israel 🇮🇱 won. Haven’t missed it since, no matter where I have lived.
Now, I call Mexico 🇲🇽 home, and each year I throw a Eurovision party (which starts at lunchtime given the time difference), where the locals look on bewildered at how much me and my European friends get into it. And we have made quite a few converts!
This year I really hope Finland 🇫🇮 win, as their song is the right level of completely bonkers that I love. 🤪
CZcams videos about Eurovision made by Americans are usually overly simplified, factual incorrect, or pure cringe. This one was none of those things. Probably the best Eurovision video made by an American that I have ever watched on youtube. Greetings from Sweden!
2:21 Yes and no, its not something new. Since its begining Eurovision always been relevant outside of it and not just cringey love love peace peace songs. In recent years, Duncan Laurence's and Rosa Linn's tiktok song is just a result of a shift in the music industry overall. It just shows eurovision manages to stay relevant when the society changes
I coming from Spain living in Germany, why am I watching a video from America? I love Eurovision so much that have to explore what other cultures think about it and I found it very funny, but accurate how you explained it, that I had to hear everything. And yes we watch it with family and friend and make our bets and the Eurovision season starts in December where the first country start to release their song, and then start all the national competitions. If you are looking for great, original, music, Eurovision always provides. And we love when songs are funny, bit crazy, all over the top, something you don’t normally heard in the radio or see on television, and if there is a political message ( which is not allow, but someone always manage to bring something discreet but powerful at the same time ( see Croacia entry this year) or social message ( Czech or Latvia song)… And yes stage and clothes are very important as well. So have fun watching and voting! In Eurovision dear Americans!!!❤
Well, a video that tries to encourage Americans to watch Eurovision that is going to be watched by Europeans who already watch Eurovision. What a master plan!.
I'm joking. Fun to watch.
You can’t even imagine how many people outside Europe love and follow Eurovision… it’s global
I watched Eurovision all my life. I am from Israel. But i didn't knew some things you talked about.
In the past the music was live and was orchestra
Even though im not american, I've been convinced to start watching eurovision even more (that's not possible actually)
Agree with all the reasons, especially the variety, pizzaz and overthinking 😂. Since I discovered Eurovision back on 2012 I have been amazed with the interesting, crazy and great stuff you can listen and watch!! It wasn't until recent years, I've became more fan, Now I'm watching the live streams, interviews, national finals,pre-parties, etc.
I don't know anyone here in my country who also watches it, Mexico (I know they exist though!) So I might use your video to try to make some friends get interested 👀
Best eurovision channel hands down.
In Europe we love our American brothers... but not enought to let them in too much until ruin our great show =P
The first time Eurovision was shown in the USA was in 1971 when PBS aired the contest. Fast forward to 2016 when cable tv channel Logo aired the finals from 2016-18. Netflix aired the 2019 contest in full. They were supposed to show the 2020 contest but Covid said no and they gave us the Will Ferrell Eurovision movie instead. NBC owned streamer Peacock has aired it since 2021,the last two years with Johnny Weir as commentator.
Thank you for making this! I hope it'll convert some of my friends. Incidentally, overthinking Eurovision songs is one of my favorite things. I didn't see a video for Soarele si Luna yet. I hope you cover that one because I'd love to see if you make a connection to The Dniester Nymph and Moldova's relationship with Ukraine.
As an American, with one of my parents being Italian, I got to say: I got into Eurovision because I had heard that some great songs came from Eurovision (Heroes 2015, Grande Amore, Epic Sax Guy etc.)
Since 2017, I've watched Eurovision and I listen to Eurovision songs more than mainstream American pop.
In my honest opinion the quality of music is much more original and off-the-wall. I also like how Eurovision artists are less focused on beating each other and more focused on performing their very best and even rooting for each other. It's a breath of fresh air to hear music from 3 dozen countries every year and see which one is the one you'll be dancing to all year round
Absolute BEST Eurovision commentary!!
Thank you so much for sharing this! I've been trying a long time to get more of my friends in the US to watch! 🙂
Free booze? More if you don't like Eurovision?
This channel's humor is the best there is.
Any time I hear/play a Eurovision song I tell my friends. I think this will eventually get them to watch

I'm from the UK, and loved this video
Why I am, an obsessed Eurovision Brit, watching this video?
Austrian song is American entry this year! From a ghost 👻 poet
"we've been doing this for a decade now" eurovision fans got the reference
now thats a pitch! and that satire at the start was 🔥
How much I love your sense of humor!
The best video for this season.
Love the video, but this still makes my teeth grind: “…But then something strange happened. Eurovision artists started going mainstream… cracked the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. Eurovision isn’t just a musical sideshow anymore, it’s a springboard to global success.”
The America-centrism is glaring: Global success is equated to American Billboard placement. I do understand that US has a ginormous entertainment industry, globally measured, (and that this video is targeted to American viewers), but the US Billboard is not uniquely representative of Global Success.
This video tries to shed light to Eurovision’s crazy status as WORLDS BIGGEST MUSICAL EVENT and still it manages to to claim surprise that the winning artists could make global renown. The dichotomy is grating.
THISSSSS
Honestly, the US's inflated ego isnt just their own fault. So many people actually feed into that ego by acting like being noticed by them is the ultimate goal.

I’m now addicted to this channel!
Did you know that in countries like Finland you actually get more content during eurovision show? Our national broadcasting network is nor allowed to show any commercials, so there is actually content aired while other nations have commercial breaks
Also, Finland and Estonia are the only countries that actually have the songs translated in subtitles (and really really well too, at least in Finland)
My favorite singer was Stefan Raab.
His song started with a commentator voice introducing him and the voice intruduction went something like this:
He went to the USA and he said, if I make it there, I will never come back!
And tonight he is here again!!!!
I think the top reason that can get Americans into eurovision is that if they don't, China might be the biggest influencer in the worldwide vote.
Thought experiment: this year, who is the "China vote" going for? Not sure there's an obvious candidate?
It totally does!
"Eurovision's no politics rule" LMAO
the political commentary in the first 40 seconds is just amazing
Okay great, now how do we get Americans to see this?
Don’t look at us, we’ve never figured that out.
Just checked it for you. For the third straight year, Eurovision will be airing on Peacock this May.

I am still waiting for the Vatican to enter with My Lovely Horse performed by the two main singers from the the Hu.
You should really do an episode about the fact that one song competed twice. "Liefde is een kaartspel" (Belgium 1996) and "Listen to Your Heartbeat" (Sweden 2001) are exactly the same, especially the chorus.
"
Wow, it's pretty similar indeed! Now I'm surprised that very few people noticed how similar the chorus from Finalnd 2018 (Monsters) and Norway 2019 (Spirit in the Sky) is... I'm not saying it's plagiarism, as the mood of the songs is completely different, it's just a weird coincidence!

Getting into the US charts is not the only form of mainstream.

Has there ever been a huge music contest where the states of USA compete against eachother? Like Eurovision but instead of different countries it is different states.
yes

Omg is he American?
America well NBC tried to do an American version of Eurovion in 2022 ofcourse they didn't get it right and it wasn't a success. Thing they got wrong. It was done based on states rather than countries so you didn't get the national quirks of eurovions nor the sings on a language you don't understand.
And ofcourse they went bigger. 8 episodes not the 2 semi-finals and final of Eurovion all happening in one week.
And I bet there was no bias voting like Greece always giving Cyprus 12 points and visa versa.
As for the point it wasn't until Abbas win that the music was taken seriously what about Volaree in 1958 or congratulations in 1956 which was a world wide hit except in the USA.

Thanks for promoting the best concert/contest on earth. A few things:
1. Sanremo isn’t a national selection. ESC is based on Sanremo, which incidentally started their festival 5 years before ESC did.
2. G:son and his songs are starting to get on everyone’s nerves.
3. Mention that Will Ferell’s film should be taken with a pinch of salt.
4. You mentioned. Celine Dion, but not Katrina from Katrina and the Waves. Why not?
5. Two countries had songs in a made up language: you mentioned Belgium but not The Netherlands.
6. You should add a phenomenon every die hard ESC fan seems to go through: PED (Post Eurovision Depression). It’s the time between the end of the contest in May and the start of Eurovision season in September. Then all starts up again until mid March when all the songs are known, listened to, ranked in everyone’s favourite app(s)m disputed, argued about, slated and so on. The overrated vs underrated songs are discussed in full detail. Then April comes around and we wait.
7. The interval acts. Enough said.
I live for this every year.
I think I’ve covered it all. If not, add to this.
Actually San Remo *IS* a national selection, as the Italian Eurovision entry is nowadays chosen in it! Never mind that Euroviosn was supposedly based on it, irrelevant here.
@@florenna no, it's not. Sanremo is a festival of Italian music to celebrate Italian music. The winner has the first right of refusal to represent Italy at ESC. National Selections are used to choose the representative of a country. That's not how Sanremo works.
Two countries had songs in a made up language: you mentioned Belgium but not The Netherlands....netherlands never sang in a made up languages..always in dutch or english
@@mvdh877 in 2006, Treble sang Amambanda in English, but also an imaginary language. Easy search on Wikipedia. The song came in 20th place with 22 points.
@@emeraldsroses0524 yeah you are right..i forgot about them
Hah! I doubt many Americans will like this years Eurovision at least. Neither am I. This year is going go be WAY too political, not to mention more adult men dressing up as ugly clown women, and a couple politically charged songs, which one of them should have been disqualified in any other normal year.
Not to mention the winner has most likely been selected already. It will be another country who can afford it and has the political will to host.
It's also a real shame they are introducing a world-vote, further globalizing/watering out what used to be a European event. No thanks!
Its so sad that two best ESC cannels (this and wiwibloggs) are run by Americans. Europeans are not even capable of making content about one show which is European. Anyway, reasons 6 and 4 are my favourite
Wiwibloggs is British, not American.
And Americans are not capable of putting on such a music show. ;-)
