- How the Shiny Odds actually work in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. This data comes from Sibuna_Switch on Twitter. This data shows that Brilliant Pokémon do have an increased Shiny chance and by knocking out Pokémon for your Dex, you increase how often Brilliant Pokemon spawn.

this is actually so much better than what was originally believed, might actually shiny hunt outside of masuda now!
This shit is still incredibly painful... Brilliant Aura Pokemon only spawn about 1/60 encounters after youve done the 500 standard... Just reset my game been on route 1 for a rookiedie for 3 days already... Shit still takes forever
smh pull up your pants and full odds hunt with a big boy it does not take that long and it’s way more fulfilling
@@Cainb23 full odds takes way longer...
1 in 513?
Or
1 in 8192?
Lmfao
@@timbahr1792 Well, actually, it’s 1/4,096 in generations 6 and onwards. But yes, full odds does generally take longer.
@@Cainb23 Some people prefer to method hunt and are fulfilled enough with that.
Thanks for covering all of this Steve. I probably wouldn't have know without you. I guarantee that you're going to have a bunch of people asking you about this on Stream this week.
I always had a feeling that the data mined ideas we got and the people who said the code was "broken" were just missing something, especially after Pokemon posted the article you referenced. The site even told us! "Finding Brilliant Pokémon Can Lead to Finding Shiny Pokémon"!
Thanks for the helpful video explaining it in plain English Steve!
I thought it was already known that chaining didn't do anything, I thought the theory was you had a 3% chance to get those extra rerolls with 500kos, which was bascially right, just that 3% being brilliant pokemon specifically
I've never caught a shiny Pokémon in my 10 years of playing pokemon games so I'm trying to find one thanks for the info
Did you get one?
Play legends arceus man shiny zorua in that game is perfect, dont evolve it tho juat hunt for another one.
Still waiting for the update
I've recently went back to Shield to catch a shiny Wooloo and from all the videos I've seen on this topic, yours has been, by far, the clearest and most concise. Thank you!
So I have caught a bunch of brilliant Pokémon on my search for shiny Pokémon. I’ve seen several of those where they only have 2 perfect IVs. Not really sure why I keep hearing 3 perfect IVs guaranteed.
I've hunted for a shiny Staryu for... a long time lol and finally had one show up through chaining yesterday. I didn't know there was more than one type of shiny until I researched the squares coming off of it. I didn't think about the nature either until about 10 encounters before it showed up and had my timid Espeon in front when it did so all-around very happy with my first hunted shiny :D
Yet 3 weeks later, 500 kos on said picked mon, over 100+ brilliants, no shiny 😕
Im very late but i HAD a feeling that chain fishing existed in this game. Literally every single time i did fishing encounters my shinies would appear in less than 500 encounters even when i didnt have charm
So 500 KOs increases shiny odds. 100 KOs increases brilliant odds. So once I reach 500 KOs I've hit peak odds. I've just started shiny hunting for the first time ever and I'm kinda excited.
You have the most entertaining videos. The energy is always peak.
I feel like some of this was hard to follow because of all the jumping around between pages/tweets/methods etc. But the content is there. Thanks for covering it - I’m so tired of hearing people dunk on these great games.
Sorry! All you really need to know is 500 KOs + Brilliant = 1/455 chance for shiny
interestingly enough out of all my wild encounter shiny pokemon (have done a lot of shiny hunts) none of them were from brilliant pokemon
3% chance for increased odds is still not great. The time you spend waiting for a brilliant is potentially longer than just RE every mon you see
Late to the wild encounter shiny hunting in SWSH, but appreciate this info as I get ready to attempt some hunts!
Good luck!
Interesting but its sad that brilliant pokemon are capped at such a low spawn chance. Especially when the KO count doesnt matter at all for random wild pokemon that arent brilliant.
First month playing SwSh I caught boxes full of only brilliant Pokémon thinking they all had perfect stats and were the fastest way to find a shiny. 🤦♂️
so it’s the same as what we have known before that it’s a 3% chance of getting extra rolls except now we know the brilliant pokemon are those extra rolls? and it works with fishing too? thanks for this it’s easier to understand now, just KO a bunch but aim for brilliant pokemon.
To summarize, we were right about the odds but we didn't know why
I’m only a week late on this but I am going to try this since I want to get back into shiny hunting. Thanks for the great video!
Happy to help!

📈 If I got anything wrong, let me know, but I think this data was pretty straight forward!
Def try now like let’s go eevee hunts.
Does it only matter if its chained ko
Please let me know u got lost at that part
So if I’ve battled 500 of one Pokemon, and I have a shiny charm, the odds of encountering that shiny pokemon are 1/512. But if I encounter a brilliant version of that Pokemon after 500 battles with the shiny charm, the odds increase to 1/455?
I'm a shiny hunter and none of my shinies have been brilliant pokemon, the shiny has always been a normal spawn. I have the shiny charm. I can't be that unlucky right?
Literally just got rokidee while watching this on route 1 after 1343 with 500 knockouts
Man that's a confusing topic- but thanks for walking us through it!
Any time!
I dont know why im watching this a year later but here we are Steve
Thanks! 😂
Thanks! I was just about to start trying my luck in chain fishing!
So every shiny boost is only applied to brilliant encounters right? All non brilliant aura pokemon have the base shiny rate
Correct
Finally I understand the “Broken method” no more Masada for me 😂
Thanks a lot for explaining this! I found the Tweets confusing but now it makes sense.
Happy to help
I literally just run in the grass and ko everything in my path until I get a shiny I have caught a shiny kyurem in a max dungeon I have a shiny bronzor and a shiny skwovet I caught the skwovet on route 1 I am looking for a shiny rookidee and found it I caught the bronzor on pokemon Go and pokemon homed it to shield
Yeah seems like too much of a waste of time to shiny hunt in sword and shield I'm not about to knock out 500 for each pokemon bad enough I knocked out regirock 233 times and the only shiny I have on shield is Kyogre, then people say brilliant pokemon are super rare yet I come across them very often,I still have no patience to shiny hunt everything I would rather hunt shiny in Pokemon go over the main series games.
Still shiny hunting on the game I feel it's super easy to get shinies in swsh with shiny charm but thats just my opinion here
So only the brilliant pokemon have increased shiny odds correct? Non-brilliant are full odds (1/4096 no charm - 1/1365 shiny charm)?
I'm pretty sure that's what I'd being said, yeah
@@festivekai2508 Okay that makes sense then. It's super awesome cause I finally got my shiny Skwovet, and it wasn't brilliant. It also had a Lunchtime mark which altogether made it a 1/22,750~ shiny.
@@Yuyukoyouji POG
Correct!
@@PKMNcast ty! I'm very relieved to know this information. Also glad to know some of my shinys are rarer than assumed! Awesome Video!
So basically it's still the same as what people thought. There's still only a 3% chance of more rolls. It's just now we know that they have a visual tell
So does chain KOing do anything? Like increasing the odds of that pokemon showing up or something?
There are no chains
Been telling people this for a while but they never believed me. I understand as personal experience is very biased but hey I was right.
Literally figured this out all by myself because i thought the info we got didnt make much sense... I told my friend about this and he never believed me either. He got mad like, he didnt even wanna listen when i tried to explain my take on it. Feels fkn great man
Still seems like a lot of work tbh. 3% spawn for brilliant and then still at max 1/455. Still nice to know how it works though! That means the other KOs are just RE pokemon!
Keep in mind once you do the work, it's permanent, unlike SOS which you have to set up each hunt, but I get what you mean!
@@PKMNcast that is true! I didn't take that into consideration.
I found a shiny brilliant with no brilliant aroma around it. So just checking for brilliant is foolish or u will loose a shiny
When I left it at 100 back then I would hit shinys before 300 encounters now tho forget it. I believe it's patched
I got a shiny sneasel like an hour ago it was my first shiny
I kinda knew it, why else would they have brilliant Pokémon
Great information! A little too late for me to put it to use, but it just goes to show the information we assume is fallible.
Glad it was helpful!
Damn.. i didn't know that brilliant pokemon could lead to shiny pokemon.. i was shiny hunting noibat yesterday and found a brilliant noibat but no shiny, also found a brilliant wimpod but also no shiny and i didnt know what did it mean but now i know
That made a ton of sense thanks Steve!
I FOUND WILD SHINY GENGAR AND I KILLED THAT :(
Thank you, this helps, & I hope I get lucky bcuz I am a method hunter, masuda breeder, & lucky RE shiny hunter that may get lucky once in awhile. Lastly, I am no full odds hunter.
Wait so, I’ve knocked out 500+ Sandygast in loop lagoon. I was under the assumption that it boosted my odds so, was I incorrect? As I now understand it only brilliant Pokémon have a chance to be increased odds, is that right?
Correct. Knocking out 500 increases the chance of shiny when a Brilliant spawns
The curry hunting is the same as Pokémon quest just gotta keep it boiling
DadaBigfoot here - this is an incredibly important video for the community given these misconceptions! I might shiny hunt now.
Now solve the mystery of XY tipping?
what are the odds of brilliant pokemon spawning? does it have anything to do with chaining KOs?
Waiting for the VSTAR podcast
saved to favorites! thanks for the great info!
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome info! I will stick to hatching shinies though!
Wasn't it called something else before SOS? Was there a reason they changed that?
Thanks man. You made it make sense
Glad it helped
Lets do this!!! Starting hunt today, will update you on my finds
Good luck!
You get that shiny?
So leaving brilliant pokemon out of this, that means KOing the pokemon does raise shiny rates. It's just brilliant can give you even higher rates. That's all I want to know. I'm not wasting my time KOing 500 Rookiedee?
I'm sure it's true but I've never seen a brilliant shiny.
I got a brilliant shiny staryu.
I’m new to shiny hunting, was going off the old data, thanks for the new info.
Now I realize how lucky I got two days ago
Non-Brilliant Rookidee encounter, shiny at 105 Rookidees battled
I'm confused, do non brilliant pokemon get better shiny odds, and brilliant ones get even better, or is it just brilliant pokemon?
Just the brilliant pokemon
Thanks so much for this video
🙌
But there is 1 fact that I hunted so many shiny but none of them appeared when I encountered brilliant pkm, I always found shiny from normal form Pkm, so their IV is so suck
I noticed while doing KOs for Ditto in the DLC that none of them were ever brilliant (KO'd 40 on the island where they can be found, already had KO'd 200 previously) so there MAY be a glitch in the DLC that causes this. After returning to The Lake of Outrage, Brilliant Ditto began to appear again, so I really think that at least in select places in the DLC, Brilliant Pokemon just don't appear, regardless of KOs.
My question is , I'm.doing a chain but then a Pokemon different from the chain appears, do I have to kill it sometimes it is an evolution but sometimes from a different family? What do I do
It’s not really a chain. It’s that Brilliant pokemon are boosted based off knockouts or catches at 500. So just always check brilliant spawns
@@PKMNcast I mean I chain because I'm knocking down just pokemon from the same species
Doesn’t matter, you can stop or attack a different pokemon and nothing would change.
@@PKMNcast oh k
5:55 the background music makes this so much more suspenseful
But this is only for brilliant pokemon right? If so the way to go should still be 500 KOs because the odds of finding brilliant pokemon aren't high even with 500 KOs. Is this way of thinking correct or am I missing something?
Brilliant increase maxes at 100 KOs (3% chance for Brilliant encounter), but you can continue increasing Shiny chance at 500 KOs.
one question, the strongs spawn can also be brilliant?
No they cannot
Thanks for the info!!
You bet!
I just wanna know if there are any chains? Like I have 500ko’d does chaining more ko’s do anything
No chains
I'm at 2000 fainted rolycoly no shiny.
Wait so do I still have to get to a 25 chain to increase chances for shinies. Saw it somewhere and can't find a answer
No, chains don't exist
I watched this for seven minutes and this guy managed to explain nothing
Pay attention next time then
Very Professional!
Second brilant was a shiny! Only 100 ko
Its all cap. I have 2000 encounters with Rookidee & NOTHING.
Youre just unlucky
can anyone let me know if im chaining in swsh and i run into a diffrent pokemon does my chain reset
no, that doesn't matter since the chains don't "break"
@@PKMNcast wait so even if i catch something it wont break?
How are they data mining before it’s even released?
Bro?
...the number of times Steve is hardcore rubbing his eyeballs or his temples is ridiculous and it's way too visceral and painful to look at XD
I hope nothing important was damaged in the process.
Steve are you ok?
good video
Thanks for the visit
My guy can't choose what music he wants lol.
Also clear as mud.
It’s a rough life
preciate you homie
New shiny odds?
I don’t get it 😅😂
its still not a great method
hello
Hello! :3
Hello!
Maybe people should just stop wanting shinies as easy as possible and just full odds hunt like big boys and girls :)
There's literally no reason for this to take so much time and effort. This is why people hack their Pokemon; people have lives to live.
