  • Due to its location right next to the river Danube, close to the estuary into the Black Sea, Braila has long been an important city for trading. A lot of old buildings can still be found in the old city center. The first horse-powered trams ran in 1886, electric trams were introduced in 1900.
Today, mostly six- and eight-axle articulated cars, which were built under a license from the famous Düwag company and used to run in Vienna, Graz (both Austria) and Rotterdam (Netherlands), serve four lines on a 20 kliometers long network. The last one out of the 20 Tatra KT4D trams, which came here from Berlin in 1998, was still running in 2020.
In this video, we will be following the trams from the Vidin settlement in the north, through the city center, to the Radu Negru district in the south. From there, the route continues through mostly undeveloped areas to the Salt Lake (Lacu Sarat) and the industrial area.
