Rein vs Turbo is what I want to see.
Honestly, my pick is Cloud Defensive with their high candela head. It demolished both my OKW and my buddy’s PLHv2. Now we’re both picking up a Cloud Rein 2.0
I’ve got a full size rein 2.0. Absolutely incredible light and company 🤘

Wow, my comparison between the hc 18650 and the modlite plhv2 the modlite was just a hair brighter so clouds number are overrated a little. Watch werkz holsters test on those lights he mentions it too. I knew it before watching his video tho if the plhv2 is a hair brighter than the mch hc then the okw will def blow the mch out of the water

Got my rein 1.0 with the trade in program… right off the bat i was impressed by how quick they replied to emails. I ordered my light and it was on my doorstep the very next day the tracking link hadn’t even started working yet. As for the light it’s great i put it next to my streamlight hlx and pointed them at a tree line about 150 yards away and there was just not much comparison. Up close (25 and in) they perform pretty similar but you can tell the rein has a much tighter spot and the color is a lot cooler.

I've been using X300Bs for a while and got caught up on the Modlite hype. My friend bought one and I was jealous, until his recoil lug sheared off after 150-200 rounds. That pretty much ended the Modlite hype for me. X300B for pistols, and REIN Micro for rifles.

My question: is the Surefire Dual Fuel technology improved to be reliable? I purchased two M600DF that have gone back under warranty with low roundcounts and no abused. I bought the Modlite DF, but want to have both be reliable options. What is battery contact on the head of the Surefire vs the Modlite?

If you have a bunch of sf switches already, Fernilab makes an adapter for the rein to be used with sf lights.

Personally i picked the rein, for the price and performance, modlite can't touch them.
I took a Modlite PLHv2 head and 18350 body on vacation and the light is amaze balls. My brother in law was fishing off the beach at night and his wife was getting hysterical because she did not know where he was. That little light went the length of a football field and lit him up. I could sweep the entire beach in front of the house with the light. A phenomenal light.
You should take a look at the Modlite OKW dual fuel . I have 2 of them and they are amazing
The ability to use either cr123 or 18350s is awesome. But can you use the modlite head? If not, is there a light body that can be used for either a modlite or surefire head?

I prefer the X300 Ultra for my home defense light. I want that bigger flood inside of my home since the engagement is going to be less than 10 ft and I also think that the larger flood is going to be more disorienting on the other end. But I will probably upgrade to a turbo for rifle use.

I don’t have any problems with Olight’s pistol mounted weapon lights. I have one on my edc ccw pistol.
Would you say the turbo rifle light is closer to the plhv2 or the okw beam pattern?

To fix the head backing off issue what you do is put blue loctite over the threads but don’t tighten it down 100% of the way. Tighten it like 99% of the way down and let it dry. Then once it dries. Take the light head off and screw it back on and you’re good to go. 2000 rounds later it never backed off on me again.
But if you already have a holster that fits modlite, will the x300 turbo fit in that holster

For what it’s worth…. Lumens and spill are still king inside, and candella and throw are king outside. I encourage you to test it. Take your lights off your guns, play hide and seek with kids or dogs, and I’m sure you’ll get similar results. To that end, the X300U is still my go-to for pistols, and Scout Pro refit with Malkoff Hyper Throw is the best performer on rifles.
Note: This presupposes you have two weapons. If you’re a cop, and taking a 20m shot outside, at night, is a very real possibility, then grab a high candella light if you like them. I don’t have enough experience to have a firm opinion on that use case.
That Malkoff head is a really solid option, too
The malkoff hyper throw is really underated. I have it on my handheld. Great light.
@@Citybreakdancerman10 i remember Malkoff years ago. I never bought them as their marketing was non existent and then p60 lights seemed to get forgotten. Edit. This was way back 10 years ago. I am on their website now. Interesting drop in for the scout light.

The Surefire hinged Mlok attachment is the best out of all the other brands without having to buy additional scout MLOK mount adapters. It is very adjustable. Plus the remote switch is the best out of all if them. They’re low profile and with the arisaka Mlok mount is the lowest profile. I bought the Cloud Defensive Rein 3.0 and was disappointed in the cooler color compared to their Rein 1.0’s warmer color fir better detail and true color.
I agree, Surefire color temps are a nice warmer temperature which even at lower candela and lumens, is easier on human eyes to identify thru windows, photonic barriers and even at distance.
However, the hinge mount is less stable and can be moved pretty easily even if torqued down with all your might. I don't like the hinge mount but it's nice that it's included.
I find it interesting that Surefire created the scout pattern accessories but is now straying away from their scout mounting system. Next thing you know, they'll start making their tailcap accessories proprietary too. Not sure why they made that move.

Cloud Defensive Rein 2.0 Micro w/Valhalla Tactical BALDR light body & integrated mount on my Mega Arms 12.5” SBR. Considering upgrading to the Rein 3.0 light head and running Valhalla Tactical’s XL body, which uses 21700 cells over the traditional 18650.
I just don't see $400 for a surefire pistol light. I have several x300s but that's only because I was able to pick them up for $200
My VP9 suffered that same fate with my TLR1. Huge downside with polymer frames. Now I can’t attach any light to it. CS said I would have to get a whole new frame.
I haven't shot my modlite pistol light enough to have the head unscrewing issue but what about a bit of loctite on the threads?

Since you have to do the battery change (for recharging or swap) by removing the head, that's not a good plan. I have never had the head walk off my daily carry PL350, but I shot my backup in a USPSA match and it did loosen by a half-turn over seven stages of fire, about 280 rounds or so. That one had dielectric grease on the threads. Once Modlite replaced my recoil lugs with metal ones, I haven't had one single issue on any of my 3 PL350's with OKW heads, which I have had since they were introduced. The Surefire looks good, but I can't bring myself to go back to disposables, and I like the option of interchanging the heads, which you can't do with any Surefire pistol light.
@@shinigami1925 I'm happy with the light but I want a lockout switch so you can't accidentally discharge turning it off. Do you have any solutions for that?
@@xm3ntal620 If you mean the tendency to overdrive the switch when shutting it off, and therefore turning it back on, I don't have a solution- I do that all the time myself. Sorry.

I have the X300V on my 19x and X600V on my rifle. I REALLY wish they had the turbos but also with IR, that would be an automatic pickup for me.
Pick up a BE Meyers Kiji for the rifle. Huge upgrade.

I had some M640DF's and both were bad. The lights would constantly dim while actuating and flicker with closing the bolt. SF customer service was great BUT the fix ultimately was getting me replacement M640U's. Their customer service said the DF lights just aren't there yet.
Buyer beware if you are looking at SF DF options. Maybe they have fixed the issue but this was ~1 year ago.

A good upgrade for the pistol light from surefire but hopefully they’ve resolved the issues with their DF rifle lights such as flickering under recoil, and it’s lacking ability to run full power unless using a hot button or modbutton. If so, then it’s good buy. No point in buying a high power light that can’t run under high power. Personally, I think it’s better to pick one battery and stick with that instead of developing a system for both that doesn’t work too well.

If it was up to me I’d take the surefire. I happen to be very clumsy with the smaller pieces of kit, (nods caps, pens, knives, tools, and batteries) so I like to go the route of disposable batteries and not lose 10 dollars every other time I refuel my light.
Now my brother is a much smarter and carful person then I am and he runs a assortment of cloud lights and never has that problem so I guess it really depends.

Modlites for both pistol and rifle (OKW). Rechargables are just where it is at. Got rid of my X300s and HLs asCR123s are just annoying. That and getting rifle performance out of a pistol light can't be overstated. I have had some issues with my first PL350, but so far my second one is holding up for the time being. If SF or SL can make a comparable pistol light (or cloud if that ever comes out and isn't trash), then I wouldn't mind swapping over, but for now, PL350 and 18650 modlites all day.
SF just released a "comparable" (Higher candela) light. That's what this video is about.

Did SureFire actually innovate? Perhaps they can finally justify their prices. Hopefully they keep the momentum going and compete in the market instead of trading on their name alone.
It’s not rocket science to put a high candela reflector head onto a weapon light. Surefire had a high candela line years ago and had the ability to provide them at any point. It just took them a while to react to the hype train that followed modlite and cloud defensive regarding candela because most of their market share was from gov that didn’t require high candela. Anyone can make a high lumen/ high candela light these days. Making hundreds of thousands of lights that stand up to real world/battlefield abuse is the real challenge which surefire has always excelled at.
@@thejohnhend Absolutely agree on the tech point. It is “innovative” given SureFire’s tired old product lines, but a refresh might be a better term.
As for durability/reliability, I find that SureFire’s reputation is as overblown as that of AKs. Good, not great. Certainly not above everyone else.

In Werx handheld light test Surefire broke first on drop test. Cloud/Modlite/Streamlight continued on in testing well past where the handheld Surefire broke. So not sure real world/battle field abuse is accurate on all their products or hype on some just because it carries the name.

The GL19R is slept on. I had an x300, tlr1, tlr7, BALDR and some Amazon thing at a pitch black beach the other night and nothing threw nearly as far as the Fenix. What makes it even more incredible is that it's barely bigger than a compact and retained a hot spot at great distance. If turns out to be reliable after people torture test it, I don't see what keeps it from becoming industry standard

I’ve had the issues you raised on my PL350 with the rail retainer walking and so I ended up taking it off and buying new holsters w/o pistol light retention. Still like the PLHv2 for the rifle but I’ve been waiting for the Turbos for my pistols.
Plot twist: Surefire owns Modlite, they just didn’t want to sully their name by running some experimental stuff within a very wide market pool.
Went with Malkoff on the rifle, and Surefire on the pistol........
Still too little too late IMO. If you're coming out with something new, at least come out with matching specs to at least "a" competitor, make it better than your competitors, or bring it in at a lower price. SF was like, "Yeah we're not going to do any of that".
At least they didn't do a dual fuel version of the their pistol. I guess they came to the realization that their dual fuel technology sucks and is riddled with issues.

Surefire doesn’t have competition. Modlite and cloud barely dig into surefires profits. It’s a game of volume.

First off great review I enjoy your content. I have commented on maybe 2 of your videos prior with one of them being the modlite pistol light. I said it then and will say it again. Modlite is nothing but a social media company end users do not use their product social media influencers do. The prior agency I worked for that last 11 years which was about 10,000 officers did NOT allow modlite to even be used as an option. With that said no end user is looking for a tight hotspot again a fake social media driven concept. We want to take in as much data as possible also 99 percent of everything we do is with in 25 yards. With that said I have carried an X300 for the last 11 years. I enjoy surefire products. However the fed agency I am at now has a streamlight TLR1 contract and those lights are legit and durable as fuck. Just wanted to share. Probably wont be buying a surefire for personal use again whats the point when a streamlight is half the price with the same if not better performance from what im seeing now.
Ugh as a patrol officer who works overnights I couldn’t disagree with you more on hot spot. I will take a high candela light all night long. My administrator lights are low candela but everything else is high. I have no issue taking in detail.

IMO, candela isnt a number worth chasing and Ive sold off all my modlites.
I did some photonic barrier tests in my garage with my modlites vs my surefires, and the modlites preformed terribly. They were beaten out and couldnt punch through the light barriers put up by the surefire, even the low lumen vampire models. Despite having significantly higher candela, they all fell short of winning that test. Im curious to see where the turbo series comes in.

Cloud Defensive provides a switch right out of the gate. No need to hunt down switches or anything else. I've been running their Rein 1.0 rifle light on duty for about a year. I wanted a rifle modlite but it was a hassle hunting down switches pertaining to the modlite. I know you can run surefire switches but I was told you would lose some power (lumens/ candela) due to the surefire switch not being able handle a stronger light.

The Pro mount sucks so hard. They need detents or teeth to keep it from flopping around under hard use. The friction tightness concept is trash.
A light with good flood is more important than a light with good throw for a EDC/fighting gun. Stick with the standard X300U. Spend money on low light training. Change my mind

Modlite is still superior to the x300 turbo due to the battery. 18650/18350 will always be able to have more output over a cr123.
Yet testing has put them within negligible ranges of each other. I would prefer a product that doesn’t break.

Modlite CS has turned into pure trash. The good people left the company, leaving it in the hands of the psycho owner and his d-bag protégé. Too bad, the lights were awesome but they’re no longer a reliable company. They also sold lights to the ATF when others refused to help those who infringe our rights.
The pistol light sucks. Clever idea to use rifle heads, but terrible execution. I’ve had several; never had the head come off but have mangled the rail keys and broken two switches. The cleat is a horrible design too. Also did not fit my safariland, had to have Ghostmen Designs fix that.
I went back to TLR1HL, but excited to see what the SF turbos turn out like.
