    Can you explain the difference between extensions and addons moving forwards? Are addons just legacy extensions awaiting conversion to the new format or will they still around?

  • @No573N
    @No573N Před 27 dny +31

    Also, dragging is a bit tedious and especially if you have one screen. They should make it so you just click on install and it installs. Many websites do this already. You click a link and it asks if you want to open in a certain app.

  • @klbrolls
    @klbrolls Před 24 dny +1

    This is great. My main concern is that what to do with the add-ons that I have collected. Will they work seamlessly with extensions especially after they have move buttons around.
    I think the best solution is to have both extension and add-ons UIs for the next few release so that people can take their time to learn how to use extensions, even if under the hood add-ons and extensions will do exactly the same thing. And keep add-ons UI precisely the same as previous releases.
    Please do not underestimate the difficulty of adapting to new UI especially when you rename things. The problem now is that we are told to use extensions instead of add-ons without a clear explanation on how it will affect the workflow.

  • @RPG_Guy-fx8ns
    @RPG_Guy-fx8ns Před 24 dny +1

    you could make an add-on, that adds the add-on button back into blender preferences. it would just call the same command as the "install from disk" button.

  • @NoobHit

  • @fabianogama39
    @fabianogama39 Před 27 dny +18

    I like the drop down menu better than the previous huge modifiers list, I can now star typing what I need much faster. I also prefer the extension thing, I don't care about how they call it, I just like the idea of just drag and drop and have what I need instantaneously. The problem of old tutorials getting outdated is insignificant, because each Blender student will have this problem just once in their lives and learn how to get around from that moment on. It wouldn't be the first thing that changes over the years and we need to find the updated information for what a particular tutorial is teaching.

    • @fundorinlive
      @fundorinlive Před 27 dny +6

      What's wrong with having fuzzy search in the old modifier list where one could add any addon with a single click based of their muscle memory and physical position of the modifier in the list?

    I don't know why they need to shrink everything into a small downward triangle icon when literally the left part of it is a long search bar. I agree they need to keep the install button separately

  • @mixchief
    @mixchief Před 27 dny +1

    I thought it was weird that Themes were its own tab next to extensions, while at the same time being installable via the Extensions tab ... Now, this makes it even more confusing, having Extensions AND Add-ons / Themes. I hope they make up their mind and decide to ditch both Themes and Extensions and rather just keep Extensions BUT with a handy Install... button in top corner. That would be the cleanest design in my mere opinion.

      Why? You don't need to install all the add-ons every time you create new project. Once you install it, it is already there for all projects, right? If you are using Unity, of course you need to install all the packages everytime you make new project. But Blender don't need that.

    Ur absolutely correct about the install and refresh buttons. Movimg it to a tiny pop down menu is gratuitous. And menu hierarchies are a user experience abomination that require unnecessary amounts of precise clicking which adds friction and reduces usability and accessibility.

    I don't think I'll ever understand the blender dev's obsession with hiding options away from users or preventing users from changing how things work. It's just weirdly narcissistic.

  • @repositorytutorial3d50

    I honestly don't understand why they focus on make things that already worked worse rather than improving areas that do not work at all, such as the shaders still do not have a file-specific library, meaning that you cannot create a material without assigning it to an object first.... Blender is the only software that does not have it and to me this is very urgent to add because it makes Blender less user-friendly compared to other counterparts.

Right now megascans export plugin is broken, color management is messy, proper usd support is missing....forget usd blender still now doesnt major industry pipline tools implemented inside and most importantly it heavily relies on 3rd party plugins for even the most obvious works... which is by default provided by other dcc packages.

      If Blender fail, Autodesk and other 3D software prices will go skyhigh again. If u think it is the good thing, think twice. Without balance and competition, everything will fail. It is nature of everything. Unity change their licence back because people switch to UE and Godot. Adobe change their TOS because of everyone switch to Affinity. Every competition is good for consumers. 😂😂😂
