The success of my CZcams channel was built on me reviewing budget and ultra affordable framesets. 6 months ago I said in a video that I would stop reviewing these types of frames because in most cases, I felt they all performed basically the same. However, brands at this price point have made improvements over the years and are starting to listen to their customer base. Obviously these frames don't (can't) compete with my Giant Propel, Winspace T1500, Allez Sprint etc. But reviewing frames from the likes of Velobuild keeps me humble and appreciative of how I got my earlier start on CZcams. Budget frames serve as a constant entry-level benchmark.
I don’t know why but this bike definitely got me excited even when I was looking at the new winspace agile. Would love to hear your thoughts on how this compares to a brand like winspace that seems to be slowly raising their prices
Love that the relationship with budget builds continues. It's great to see! Ignore those that complain (they obviously expect everything to be paid for by the content creator), so they get to watch it for free! That's the only thing that's ridiculous.
Another great video! After you build it and get some miles on it, please do a video comparing it to your Tavelo. Also just a thought…since you have reviewed so many of your own bikes, have you thought of either giving them some numerical score that is based on your own criteria or comparing them to each other (meaning which bike you’d prefer over the others or ranking them in order from best to least best). You are probably the only guy on CZcams that has owned/ridden so many Chinese brand bikes that it’d be great to get a comparison. Keep up the great content!
Thanks for watching, and for your support! If I did a numeric score, people would destroy me in the comments and probably look for reasons to discredit my scoring system. However, the biggest issue is that comparing frames from significantly different price points is unfair all around. People looking for a Winspace or Giant products are not cross shopping VeloBuild. I would have to keep the scoring apples to apples by pricing and brand tier.

I REALLY want a pair of Wheelsfar RD270-hub carbon spoke wheels. 58mm deep, 30mm external, 24mm internal. Price looks great too. I heard the ratchet hub is pretty silent yes?
@@PatrickLino That is exactly the wheelset that I got, and my teammates got the 50mm deep version. I recommend the 50mm deep ones (they are 100 grams lighter... 50mm actual weight was like 1225 grams with rim tape; My 58s were like 1320 grams with rim tape). The wide carbon spokes with the 58 has me a little blown around at times, but nothing an experienced rider can't handle... I just notice it at times. So with the weight and slightly blown around a little bit, I think the 50mm are the sweet spot. If they don't give you wheels for being a content creator, hit me up as I get a VERY good discount based on being a repeat purchaser.
@@PatrickLino RD270 hub is not silent. I would say medium loud compared to other hubs. It is louder than my DT swiss 350 hubs (which are very quiet). RD270 has 36 points of engagement and my DT swiss 350 hubs have18 points of engagement... maybe thats why the RD270 hub is a little louder. These RD270 hub wheels are super stiff and responsive. My teammate has went 1st, 3rd, 3rd, in the first three cat 1/2/3 races we've done so far. He says his 50mm RD270 carbon spoke wheels are noticeably better than his bontrager aeoulus pro 51mm wheels. Also these wheels pair perfectly with just about any 28mm tire. outer width is like 31.5mm for the 50mm deep; and 31.7mm for the 58mm deep. GP 5000 28 STR come out to be like 30.4mm wide at 60 psi, and GP5000 TT TR come out to be like 30.8mm wide at 60 psi

I've done two different option. I've ordered decals from a local automotive shop, who also applied the frame decals. This option is expensive and I would not do it again. I've also ordered decals from Etsy by uploading my designs via a vector file. This option is the best but you do have to be precise with transferring the decals to your frame!
I purchased their vb 168 because of your review..... I also wanted to compare it to a premium brand frame(i own 2) honestly i was less than impressed with the overall performance and feel of it, it lacked the snap and stiffness of my other bikes. the brake calibers mounting faces were way off and took a lot of shimming to stop the rubbing ! I'm still dealing with steerer tube, bearing issues, and delamination inside the steerer. I sent photos of the steerer and was told its a non issue, also asking for a new bottle cage holder i purchased with the frame that cracked, told it was shipped out yet never received it nor responses to further inquires where it was YES its cheap and not terrible for the price, but there is definitely a difference..... buyer beware
Realy a nice review. I also plan to build up a road bike and this frame looks very nice. I´m quite new in riding a road bike and I dont want to spend too much money. I just checked out the website of velobuild and I can´t find a painting for this frame. How can I order that?
Hey Patrick - Ive got a 1000km charity ride coming up, where im trying to get my hands on a custom painted frameset. Reckon something like this is worthwhile - or should i spend a bit more and get something like a tavelo?
Tavelo doesn’t offer custom paint, but is a fantastic frame. I haven’t built my 268 yet to offer any riding insight. Based on past experiences with VeloBuild frames, I do not expect the 268 to be as good as the Tavelo. Especially given the significant price difference. The 268 only needs to be better than the previous 168 and 177.
Do a Hardtail xc mountain bike built with wheels made by yourself and a Reba 120 fork. Hubs can be goldix hubs with pilar triple butted spokes and goldix hubs. Wheels can be as low as 1400g for $500.

That’s the value of their time, which in my experience is a fair exchange for the products they receive. You can do the same thing: Buy something yourself, create value for the manufacturer and audience by investing your time in producing valuable content, then perhaps that manufacturer will want to invest in your future by sending you additional products. This is not a unique system to this man - this is how modern social media-based marketing works. Rather than railing against one person, perhaps join in. Put differently, “Don’t hate the player; Hate the game.”
