Yishun R086D Review - Budget Perfection
Yo Patty did you use the bearings and compression headset rings that came with te bike? Or did you replace them?
Really wanted this but at 2k it’s got me looking at Bigrocks instead 😮
Nice. Let me know how it that one is…
I’m buying a madone before this all day 2k I can’t justify it anymore
This is a climbing bike though. I don't understand the comparison.
What is the stack and reach of this frame?
Should be the same as the current SLC 2.0 on the website. I'll circle back if this is different.
USD1980 is just too much for a Chinese brand. Might as well get a western brand at those prices. Western brands also have much better resale value. SLC gen 2 owner here.
I would be curious to know how brands like Winspace are doing in terms of overall sales since their price increases. Is there steady growth year over year?
2k USD is too expensive IMO in the current market, especially if you add in tax. Here in Europe including VAT and customs the frameset would be 2.5k€. Currently Bike24 sells a Specialized Aethos frameset, including the seatpost, for the same price and it has a similar weight. Why should I opt for a (albeit quality) Chinese manufacturer when I can get the competing Specialized frame for a similiar price? Especially since I can get spare parts etc from the Specialized dealer network here afterwards and have the "brand-name" bonus
The EU prices for Chinese stuff has been insane.
Idk why Winspace themselves is comparing it to SL8 when it really looks like an Aethos. Version 3 looks a lot better though
SL6
Been waiting for the SLC 3 after missing out on the SLC 2 train. The bike looks terrific, and I’d have no issues with quality either. My issue is that Winspace seem to have dropped XL frameset for those that need a stack height 600 or more, unless you buy the gravel bike. This puts me out of the purchasing picture, which is disappointing. No RIM offering from Winspace is also very disappointing. Shame. I’m sure who ever gets one won’t be dissatisfied and will have an awesome bike.
Someone in here said this new SLC3 should be compared more to the Tarmac SL6 than SL8. Visually, I'm starting to agree with this metric.
U have more bikes than the bike depot .. 😂
Literally no different than any other bike reviewer on CZcams lol
@@PatrickLino [prolific]
I'm excited for Quick Pro AR 1...very light too... I wonder how the Winspace frame compares with frame from Bigrock...
Interesting what it is that makes the Tarmacs (Sl7-SL8) rate so highly for ride quality. Obviously, most bikes are built in China, so you would presume the carbon technology used is the same and geometry should be easy to copy. So you wonder what the secret ingredient is for ride quality. Specialized had their wind tunnel, so it isn't a surprise for a lightweight bike that the aero aspect is well sorted and would be an advantage, particularly over Chinese brands.
My guess is 1. Actual consideration to the carbon layup 2. Frame construction consistency despite high production volume 3. They aren't using cheaper more readily available carbon like the budget brands. I'm told the price difference between (real) T1000 and T1100 is exponential. At least for now I guess.
@PatrickLino it would be interesting to know if certain brands might not use the same volumes of the more expensive carbon in their layups. I guess saying it has the more expensive carbon doesn't mean they used the same volume. As you note, once brands like Exceed or Tavelo start to factor in the same costs as the other brands their value benefit starts to deminish.
@@morrisizing I'd also like to know what percentage of the retail price goes to both marketing and R&D. For major Western brands that is. If the Tarmac SL8 frame costs $3500, employees probably getting 30% discount, where does that leave the remaining $2500?
great video, thanks! just one question: what is the frame size and how tall are you? are you comfortable as you are or would you change the size of the frame? thanks a lot!
Howdy doody. Im 6 feet tall. I've had a professional bike fit done, and i always closely follow the geometry chart. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Waiting for a review with comparison to the sl8. A bit disappointing bb choice and those covered thru axles are useless IMO, just creates more limitations on using racks etc
I suspect a comparison to the Tarmac SL6 would be a more fair...
Dont know how my 2019 Emonda disc frameset is 720G + under 300g fork with nice paint and today they want 2k for a frame that will be 900g+ with any color.
My Emonda in 58 cm is 890 grams, I weighed on 2 different gram scales!!! The bikes are not as light as they say! This guy puts everything on a professional scale. He did a great job 👍
How much was the Emonda back in 2019? I haven't followed Trek in years.
@@yarlon2014 those frames cost $4,000 dollars 2 years! I bought one. I'll never do that again, mu opinion is not worth that money. Today I would get a wind space!
quick review: cutting-down version of c5
Say what now?
Speculation & prediction, not facts: it’s gonna ride like a Tarmac SL6. Probably weighs around one too.
@@ariffau I like the way you think.
@@PatrickLino haha these 2024/2025 Chinese products have a tendency to that. They are not bad. But they are top name brands’ product a gen or two ago. Chinese wheels being an exception.
In chinese community, we all think this is a joke with how they present it on the media day. Those bold claim and t1100+t1000 is just pure comedy. Claimed weight is another joke, no one is able to get the weight claimed by them so far. This bike is currently a joke in here. T1550 is still the one to go with winspace.
@@Chris-iv2ud Still have my T1500
Great Video breakdown #BlackPedalCo
thanks for tuning in!
How can a non influencer test ride one before buying? $2k is too much to buy online sight unseen.
I spent $3500 on my Giant Propel and components online, sight unseen. No one here in Chicago had one.
Frame weight over 800g not 700g as they claim also is way to expensive for china brand and direct to consumer , cost same as tcr pro frame no go for me
Canyon is realistically a Chinese direct to consumer bike. No idea why people care about the semantics of them being owned by a European brand
@@veganpotterthevegan Your logic is too logical.
@@veganpotterthevegantry selling a used Canyon vs a used Windsoace
woah. I had 2 sets of their wheels a few yrs ago, never rode or seen one of their frames in person yet but this 3.0 might be the ticket for a new cheap, "do it all" sub 6kg build. My biggest interest is in how stiff it is when putting down the power. Nothing I hate more than flexy frames regardless of how comfy they are. the prior gen SSE & gen 7 madone slr are the 2 stiffest/snappiest accelerating when stomping the pedals ive ridden by a country mile. very curious to hear about this one.
Hoping to have this built by the weekend!
Airwolf is well known in the mountain bike community and they make road bike frames with 2 year warranty. I was going to get a Winspace frame but at their prices my budget would be finished.
@@ESR66 does Air Wolf offer an equivalent frame to the SLC3? I reviewed the Rinasclta All Road frame last year which is produced by Air Wolf
@PatrickLino Thanks for responding to my comment. I checked out your video. Airwolf does have a Specialized SL8 clone for $700 to $800 plus clones of Trek bikes. I truly believe they are the supplier for the big brands.
@@ESR66 I've seen Air Wolf's clone of the Madone. And it's pretty horrendous lol

@@boots8683 on special offer
Nice one , glad they improved their graphic design as well
Thanks for the Video! One comment -that second cap for the headset is critical if you want a light bike. The FSA stems if you do not go for the Winspace one piece weight 250g+
Yikes thats heavy. Yup im aware of FSA's super heavy stems haha
@@PatrickLino I was all excited for that clean look on the SLC - but I would want to use my own bar choice. Patrick you have done some good today - I would have ordered that bike with the Winspace bars 100 mm stem - you have me thinking hard about their combos with the way they measure stems.... THANKS FOR THE GREAT VIDEO!
@@dougdewar7896 Thanks Doug!
Windspace sponsored you with a frame and wheels back then?!
Winspace only sponsors professional race teams. I'm a bike reviewer so they sent me a frame/wheels...to review 🤣
Sound like Brandon Johnson out here boy!
Wicked. Excited for your opinion on the ride feel 🍿
How it holds it speed??? Don't worry, I got you! 🤣
@@PatrickLino mate this one looks like it gets up to speed on its own and holds it real good.
It's exactly what I thought. If they aren't careful people will defer back to their western equivalent (even if its more expensive). Sceptical doubts have been diminished over quality over many videos over the last 3/4 yrs. BUT they are risking losing the audience they introduce themselves too when prices are no longer enticing. Killing it on the videos though.👏
One thing to note is Winspace did not increase prices at all from 2019 up until early 2023. Some increase is warranted as the cost of doing businesses. But it's a slippery slope if customers only perceive your company as a budget-only brand.
Indeed my friend.
It's dope, but the price creep is kinda bothering me.
Looking back at Winspace pricing model from the past 5 years, they actually did not increase prices at all from 2019 up until early 2023. Some increase is warranted considering brands across the globe are doing the same.
The Chinese game plan is always this way, bait and switch in their pricing. 😂 Give you less and con you, it's part of their culture
@@marquesreyes3287 This is offensive yo.
@@PatrickLino you're right Patrick. I've dealt with their culture to know this. I really wanted to buy their products at one point, but I've just seen them offer no value in the end. If you look at the stock market, American stocks are always the safe bet. I have the S-Works SL8, it's made in Taiwan, which I'm good with Taiwan, why do you think the PRC wants to invade Taiwan?
@@marquesreyes3287 who or what is PRC? I don't follow politics, assuming thats what your statement is referencing to.
Do they measure the stems middle to middle or end to end?
From the top cap bolt to the imaginary center point on the tops. A stand-alone stem is typically measured to where the face plate fastens to the stem. There's usually at least a 10mm difference.
The Specialized Tarmac is truly the benchmark all bikes are compared to and for good reason.
Yup
A real win from winspace on this one. Simplicity as a key feature just classic smooth lines. 👌
Have they got UCI approval on this one?
@@andrewhall127 that's just a formality, this isn't any kind of weird shape.
@@galenkehler i wonder why they do it for the T-1500 and not the SLC series? tbh its what has put me off buying one.
@@andrewhall127 There are currently UCI-approved Chinese frames on the market that are visually pretty crappy in the quality department.
@@PatrickLino I don't think the UCi sticker is about quality. But more to do with meeting the double triangle and tube shape requirements.
@@DanTuber UCI approval requires structural testing documentation.
$2K for a chinese frameset is a bit much when you compare it to the new Trek Madone SL frameset is $3K, the Giant Propel is around $3K as well, and the Tarmac SL8 is $3,500. I would like you to get your hands on a Specialized Aethos frameset to compare weight as I think the SLC and the Aethos are more in competition with each other.
While the Aethos (Pro) is gonna probably be 100g lighter than this new SLC3, I suspect it won't be as stiff. Although customers do praise how comfortable the Aethos is, which is why the SL8 adopted the Aethos' rear triangle. My prediction is the SLC3 will mimic the SL8 in terms of stiffness and agility, but not quite the speed due to its design. You're getting almost Aethos Pro level on paper but $1500 cheaper. My Propel is fast is FAST but it's quite a stiff ride.
@@benjaminwolf9801 not unexpected as the company gains reputation and name recognition they'd start to charge more for the name just like the other big name brands.
These Chinese are getting bold with their pricing
@@marquesreyes3287 You are within your rights to explain.
@@PatrickLino I've followed Winspace since their version 1 wheels. I thought it was value for the money. Now they've increased their pricing without the western warranty backing. Peace of mind support is not there, yet they're beginning to creep into western pricing. Which is their right, but I will call them out that they lost their appeal, since there's more risk without the proper backing from China
Thoughts on the brand new SLC redesign from Winspace? I should also note that despite the (light) weight nature of this frame, it's still a bit over the advertised claim once the specs are released to the general public for sale. I would very much appreciate if these brands stop significantly overstating the claimed weight. Under promise and over deliver instead. Despite this annoyance, the frame is incredibly light for a mid-tier level frameset especially at this price point.
Price hike is a bit disappointing but not unexpected, nice update overall. It's really a Toyota Camry" kind of update, just basic transportation without anything super flashy
@@galenkehler Benchmarking against the Tarmac SL8 is a tall order. But also seems to be common among countless brands around the globe. Half the battle will be if this frame can be stiff enough out of the saddle, while being comfortable over bad pavement.
@@PatrickLino even if they were the same price, I'd take this bike over the sl8, looks way better imo
Guess claimed weight is for a smaller frame or?
@@taxi9554 Claimed weight is 700g for an unpainted size XS with, presumably, no metal hardware/hangers attached.

for what it's worth, I ordered two wheelset, which were fine. The new nxt wheels are really scratch prone, yes you can "fix" with nail polish, but it's really bad. So anyway, the wheelset experience led me to order the R12. Ordered on may 23, now july 19, I had no news, no nothing, radio silence and when I threatened to chargeback on credit card, sudden update. Customer service for canada/america, is not good. When I reached out about the scratches on wheel, I ask what should be done. Radio silence. So yeah, it's not really good. In order to get a part number for wheels (bearings) I had to write 4 times. the email apparently got "left in their outbox". :-D I hope the frame lives up to it's reputation and that going forward they step up their game.

@@DDGB08 thanks for watching!
I was about to spend NZ$500 on a specialized power 3D printed saddle, and am so glad I saw this review. I purchased one of these and it got to me within a week - all up NZ$120, so 1/4 of the price of the S saddle. I didn't expect much, but blown away by how comfortable it is and the fit and quality are superb. It weighs in at 190 grams, so much lighter than the Bontrager saddle, and significantly more comfortable (for me) than the Ergon saddle I had recently put on my gravel bike. I have tried many saddles, searching for that elusive mix of comfort and performance, esp for multi day bikepacking and gravel rides - have tried many saddles - Brooks B17 (comfy, but heavy and not great fit for drop bar bikes), Brooks Cadmium (not for me, painful), Selle Anatomica, WSB, Ergon etc, some were OK, but hard to get that mix of comfort and right fit for performance. So this seems to be hitting that mark - Highly recommended, and will be getting more of these to put on my other bikes. Thank you Patrick!
Great stuff! I own three of them, and looking to buy more LoL
Thanks for sharing, very informative. From London.
