  • Bob and Susan’s reasonably priced, four-bedroom suburban home has been on the market for three weeks…And although they’ve had over 50 showings, they haven’t landed a single offer. The couple is baffled and frustrated…but not Sofie. She says the dated décor, bold color scheme, and cluttered interiors are to blame. What this house needs, she says, is to be dragged about twenty years into the present.
In order to transform the home from dated to sophisticated, Sofie comes up with a plan to declutter the space, neutralize the walls, and restyle the kitchen. Desperate to move on with their lives, Bob and Susan get on board from the start…And while Anthony and the team work their magic on the interiors, the couple learns the basics of real estate from Sofie. The results are dramatic…But will they be enough to seal the deal?

I did that with my house. It was painted atrocious colors. The master was a deep maroon and the master bath was mustard yellow. The whole house needed painted. It was all bad. It sat on the market with no offers and many price reductions. We came in and “low balled” and our offer was accepted. We got about a 40-50k discount. What I didn’t realize is how expensive painters are. To paint the walls and the kitchen cabinets with several quotes from painting companies we were looking at 12-15k. Yikes! That’s after we had to shell out all the down payment money and the money for moving across the country. When you buy a house already done, sure you’ll pay a higher price, but you don’t have to cough up the cash because it’s built in the price, it may increase the down payment a little but not the full amount (depending on loan program). I also didn’t realize how long it took. I had 2 toddlers and one in the oven. I was exhausted all the time. Having painters in and out was not fun. Then mid way through the job they flaked on me and just didn’t come back. I felt something was up when the night he left he came to me and asked for the full amount he was owed for the job a little aggressively. He said he needed to pay his guys and my job wasn’t supposed to take so long, mind you it was a 12k job, they had been there for 2 weeks but not every day and some days they’d show up at noon and leave at 3. They only worked one “full” day in that 2 weeks a few days they didn’t come at all. I was pregnant and sassy and told him no way. I felt like he had done about half so I’d pay him half of the balance so he could pay his guys. He argued that he had done more and needed more than half but I wasn’t budging I felt like 1/2 was generous. The painter said he had another job that needed to be done over the holiday weekend (it was the Thurs before Easter) he was doing a commercial job and that was the only time it could be done so he’d come to my house after. I never saw him again. I finished the work myself but with my small kids it took a full year. After all that Im not sure how eager I’d be to buy another house that needed cosmetic touches. Today my house is worth 100k more than we paid for it and that low price really helps our current equity but for the longest time it looked terrible, stressed us out and I was too embarrassed to have anyone over with the half painted rooms that it prevented me from meeting people and making friends.

Three grown children still living at home? Why? One's age at 22 is given but maybe all 3 could share an apt and let the parents get a break from the overcrowding. Five adults in the galley kitchen at the same time? Um, no. And why all the references to 2008 -- are these "content creators" really that out of date?

I was looking to see if anyone noticed the 3 grown children. Not to many noticed or cared. It shows how we have come to accept less from our children. Yes, I know maybe they are going to school ,etc. Still the parents are selling their home to accommodate grown children. Looking for a basement apartment for the grown daughter.

@@beckishelton7155 I'm not sure when in the year this episode was filmed, but in 2008 in the US there was a housing market crash. The economy was very, very tough for a while there and there weren't as many economic opportunities for young people.
