  • Desperate to move back to Manhattan, Ruth is going stir crazy in the suburbs. But after seven months on the market without a single offer, it seems no one’s interested in her three-bedroom home in Queens. She inherited the property from her aunt and uncle. The problem is she also inherited its dreary kitchen, over-the-top paint colors, and an overwhelming collection of furniture and stuff. Property expert Sofie Allsopp unveils a dramatic plan to reveal the home’s gracious layout and potential. Pitching in, Ruth proves she’s a tool belt diva. After a major decluttering operation, the team neutralizes the color scheme, scales down the furniture and overhauls the kitchen.

The homeowner doesn't understand the value of a dollar. If he or she expects you to pay $350,000 upfront, that money does not come out of your ^*&. When you take out the mortgage, you end up paying a lot more than $350,000 to the mortgage company. If the homeowner wants maximum dollars, he or she has to show the justification. Throwing out the obsolescence and making it look attractive goes a long way.

Hoarders can't be helped. You'd have better luck trying to get a chain smoker to stop than for them to keep piling stuff up and wherever she goes she's going to empty all those boxes right onto the next table. She's right though that people walking into that dump didn't have vision because they got double vision looking at so much needless junk. The transformation saved it or else the only thing that could have would be a flame thrower. Thought was watching an episode of How Clean is Your House.

LOL I can't imagine wanting to move to NYC with the cost of housing! We live in a little town about 2 hours away from NYC...where a lot of people from NYC have homes. When Covid hit everyone was moving out of NYC and moving permanently into their summer/weekend homes here in CT. We just moved here 8 months ago from NC and our home is already worth over $100,000 more than what we paid for it (yay us). The realtor who listed it called and told us a month after we had moved in that we could resell it if we wanted to for an extra $100,000 because there were so many buyers from NYC looking for homes in this area. Pretty happy with that I must tell ya! Hopefully it retains that new market value for a couple more years. Who knows!

Watch when the carpenter shows her how to nail the stair railing in she states “I’m getting a headache,” O brother. She can’t even keep her dinning table uncluttered but makes excuses every step of the way. Think of all the single moms that work, raise kids alone, keep their house clean & do their own house repairs without help.
House looks a lot better afterwards. I just don’t know why they didn’t address a few things like the overgrown bushes in the front yard. They could have primed & painted the kitchen tile under the cabinets as it looks dirty looking next to the cabinets. When Sophie made a cushion for the window seat it was a joke as it was only half the size across but yet she used the budget to buy Extra pillows to fill in the space that wasn’t necessary. Only a few pillows at the end would of done it. As it is the window seat looks half done

A very pretty house by the end. The kitchen is in need of serious help. I would fit a downstairs loo where the stove and fridge are, then build an extension on the back of the house for a new, well planned, and workable kitchen. Working with the current footprint, the fridge would have moved to where the butcher block is, with a small counter beside it. A narrow work surface on the wall where the fridge is now would work great, and open shelving above it would dress it and make it look like it belongs

I can sympathize and can understand her... Moving into a new house, I brought with me only clothes, books and a few pieces of antique furniture. The house was empty. My clothes fit into master bedroom closet . Now, 12 years later, I filled up closets in two extra bedrooms (despite all donations I have been doing at least once a year), and all the rooms stuffed with furniture and things. I want to sell the house and move to another state but I cannot find energy to begin sorting through all the accumulated possessions. Things that I can carry myself, I just take out to the curb, for trash pickup - although someone usually would come after dark and take them. But after a day of work in the office, I come home and catch myself trying not to see what needs to be done. I am not a hoarder - my house is clean and there are no piles of things on every horizontal surface. But CLUTTER still chocking me. Books in the living room, gadgets and pots and pans and what not in the kitchen, those closets filled with very nice and expensive clothes that I probably will never wear because I don't even remember what I own...

She was obviously overwhelmed and depressed by living with someone else's junk and furniture all those years, without being able to deal with it. Just shy of being a hoarder. I wonder how many bills were in that mail she was ignoring that went unpaid? She could have avoided all this by just listening to her friend, who probably would have helped her get rid of all this crap while she was at work; I wonder why they didn't do that instead of having to hire it out - or hire one of those 'got junk' companies to take it all out of there. Meanwhile the place she wanted in the city (can she afford that???) was going up in price. One thing is for sure, this show will never run out of houses to showcase...
