Thanks I am going to give this a try. I have been attaching braid to mono on my gear rod using a blood knot for the last several years. It has this same issue of very thin to fat line. I had never had issues with it until the other day. I had put on some new braid. I think the new line has some sort of coating on it which makes it slippery. As a result my knot started to fail. You can not have that happen when you hook a large fish! So, my work around was to tie a small overhand knot at the end of the braid before tying the blood knot. This seems to work as it prevents the knot from slipping. But I had never had to do anything like that before. I am going to give this improved blood knot a try next time I have to change the mono bumper section. I know this is not a fly fishing issue specifically. But thanks for the great idea 🙂

Brian, to your knowledge has any one tested the precentage stragth loss of the smaller class tippet when using the improve blood not ageist other options, such as the Biminy twist, Haywire twist, or even the dubble uni knot.

Not aware but surely it has been done. We typically use this as we do alot of rigging for clients and friends of Flip Pallot and this is what Flip wants us to do....even on Marlin.
Around here we have a saying- "If it's good enough for Flip, it's good enough for us".
      Thanks for tuning in.

Great video...thanks as always for providing an invaluable resource. Quick question, in this tutorial your wraps go away from you on one side and back toward you on the other. I've seen a lot of intruction where the wraps always go away from you. Does it matter? Thanks!

I’m really not sure what’s going on? I’m putting 14lb mono to 25lb mono the EXACT same way and it ends up going well but when I tighten, the thinner mono ends up not being cinched down. If I pull any further I wind up breaking the line even when I lubricate just before I slide them

Use a standard blood knot for those diameters....,this knot unnecessary for those.

Very helpful! I also have a question. I am going to Idaho this fall to fish the Kokanee spawn for spawning Kokanee and trout that are hanging out behind them. What fly patterns do you recommend? Love your videos they got me to pick up my fly rod I never used!

I often see people using a Yucatan knot for mono/fluoro to braid

Can this be used to attach backing to fly line instead of a nail knot?
