    In a properly tied blood knot the tag ends are supposed to come out of the center in opposite directions. This makes them come out of the center in the same direction.

    • @PompanoBrownie
      @PompanoBrownie  Před 11 měsíci +2

      That’s correct bill, it’s really a dropper loop knot with the same strength of a blood knot. They are blood brothers.

    • @tuloko16
      @tuloko16 Před 9 měsíci +6

      A little modification to this method will give you a “real blood knot” with the legs comming out opposite ends.
      Follow all the same steps all the way up to right before synching the knot. Were you started pulling it closed, but not all the way. Once it’s there, cut the overhand knot and feed one of the legs in opposite direction and synch it.
      I still do it the regular way most of the times, but if it’s cold or in the middle of a long day at the water, this method makes it less cumbersome.

    Very good video and much simpler way of tying a blood knot without having 2 tag ends flying around. For tying a leader with a dropper one need only cut off the original overhand knot and one of the resulting tag ends to leave the dropper. I use a Dennison Blood knot tool to tie my blood knots and manipulating 2 tag ends can be tricky. Using your ‘overhand knot’ method with this tool makes blood knot tying extremely easy.

    • @PompanoBrownie

      I think a swivel wouldn’t pass thru the eyelets of the surf rod smoothly. I have only used the blood knot my entire life. I have never had a blood knot fail me. Line failure is usually from sharks and bluefish cutting the line with their teeth. It’s important to check your shock leader daily for nicks or abrasion.

    • @PompanoBrownie
      @PompanoBrownie  Před 2 lety +2

      Tide , The only reason The Tag ends are together is because I tied the knot first. They would be opposing if you tied it the old fashion way that takes a lot longer. The tag end positioning will not affect strength. This knot ihas been time tested on the beach, and pulls the biggest slobs up the sand with no threat of breakage. Your biggest threat of line break is not replacing your shock leader every time you go fishing. There are small nicks in the shock leader that are caused by run-ins with sharks and abrasion in the sand. Always run your fingers down your shock leader after replacing a pompano rig.

    There’s always a critic. I like your method, and I have used it. But, is it technically a blood knot?The blood knot tags exit opposite sides of the knot, and they form a characteristic “s” figure. These seems important because it makes the knot small and slim to pass through the guides. This probably doesn’t matter in surf fishing. I think originally the blood knot was used to tie tippets in fly fishing. What do you think? 🤓🎣🛶🇦🇺👍
