  • I'm starting a new series on my channel: 'Shelf-Help.' In this series, I'll recommend books that help solve life's small and big dilemmas. For the first video in the series, I'm recommending stories that give a virtual boost of Vitamin D. They are perfect reads for when you're craving some sunshine at the tail end of winter.

Miranda, like you, I very much enjoyed reading Enchanted April! I didn't want the story to end! Also, Dear Mrs. Bird was a most delightful read!
Thank you for your wonderful vlogs and book selections! Please keep them coming, as they provide so much enjoyment!

Wow! These books are precisely what I need on a bleak Saskatchewan Monday! How I adore D. E. Stevenson and Mary Stewart! And Dear Mrs. Bird is my favourite book of 2020 thus far...so sweet and gentle, yet heart stirring, completely engrossing.
But The Enchanted April, Chamomile Lawn and Picnic in Provence have just been added to my ever-expanding list...they seem like pristine perfection! Meeting Elizabeth Bard and enjoying ice cream must have been a marvelous treat...truly wonderful to make memories like that.
Would it be possible to do a video on books excellent for hot sweltering days to cool off? Just thinking ahead to a stupendous (and hot!) summer in Croatia, lovely and magical, but can bring drought so we sometimes crave rain. Nothing snowy, just cool mentally, if you know what I mean. Sort of refreshing.
I'd also love a video on books with a hint of darkness/despair such as Villette, Wuthering Heights or Jude the Obscure. 😊
Sounds cliché but I cannot thank you enough for your videos. They are enriching my reading life!

Thank you so much for your lovely comment! Your are in for such a treat with The Enchanted April - it's the most delightful read and will transport you to a beautiful Italian spring. I will take note of your 'refreshing books' request for when the days are hotter. Happy reading! xxx

This series is such a fun and "novel" idea! Thank you for introducing me to a roster of new writers. p.s. You have such a lovely brooch collection.

Thank you so much Pamela! So glad you like this idea. I love collecting vintage brooches; there's a lovely antique market in Hampstead that sells some great vintage pieces xxx

Another delightful video, Miranda. I'm (very) slowly enjoying your videos in chronological order from oldest to newest. So far I feel we have greatly similar tastes and delight in many of the same things. : ) . So happy to have found your channel. Cheers and Happy Holidays 2022! Celeste in New York. 😊

Miranda Miranda Miranda. I think this is my favorite video! LOOOOVE this series. I am going to have to get a 2nd job just to keep up with all of your wonderful recommendations!! LOL. I might have an idea for this series; or not. I am very interested to read journals from authors or anybody for that matter. As someone who had journaled most of my life, I LOVE reading other peoples diaries/journals. Do you have any recommendations? Enough for a video?

Ah I'm so happy you enjoyed this - thank you! I'm sure I could do a video on books to inspire keeping a diary / journal - that sounds a lot of fun! Thanks for asking me for some 'shelf help'! xxx

Thanks for the recommendations, Miranda! I've read Enchanted April and enjoyed it a lot. Stewart 's books sound like my cup of tea. Can you think of any epistolary novels I might enjoy? I loved Guernsey... Greetings from sunny Greece 💕

I definitely recommend Mary Stewart - they're such fun reads! I can think of many good novels in letter form; I'm not sure if that's quite a 'shelf-help' topic, but maybe I could do a video on books to inspire handwriting letters! it would be fun to do a video on epistolary novels at some point anyway xxx
