Is it just me, or is Mustafina finally fighting to stay on beam. Way to go Aliya and after being hospitalized for a flu. Most of us don't want to do anything when we have a cold-BRAVO!

Most gymnasts did a back handspring step out. Shawn started with a BHS to both feet. There's quite a bit of difference.

I'm just saying that it's not as common seeing this pass competed without a back handspring stepout. Sure, that's the only thing different, but I think that one thing makes it a little more unique.
What is this competition
Universiade, also known as the World University Games. All the athletes competing have to be enrolled in university/college. It uses the elite Code of Points, but most countries can only send one or two from their A team, if any. Russia, however, sent a Worlds-worthy team here for their home crowd.

Then you should call it Kui Yuanyuan's pass. There really isn't too much of a difference between the two, and literally zero difference regarding the difficulty.
This is one of Mustafina's worst choreographed routines!
Aliya Mustafina's really inconsistent and rarely has a routine without balance checks. She's good, but not a phenomenal gymnast; she's just better than the others, who are all, to be honest, shit. Most of her golds are because she's much better than the rest who are not even close to good; I've never really seen her compete in a final with other great gymnasts and have at least some competition. I'm just being blatantly honest - I'm not going to pepper my comments with fake praises. All the best gymnasts are in previous generations; not a single one today impresses me. Not even Mustafina, Iordache, or Biles.
well, I'm very late commenting here...but I disagree with you. Dudnik had one of the most difficult beam routines of the 90's and by today's COP would start at just a 6.3. there are tremendous gymnasts today, the only ones who seem to think otherwise are those who like a "balletic" style gymnast. if that is your preference, and I'm not saying it is, the Netherlands team has been doing very well working the code with harder dance elements and spins with very mamsic tumbling skills. but to say there are no great or amazing gymnasts today is just insane. I started gymnastics in 1975 and competed until 1985, so I have seen first hand the transformations the sport has taken. people complain of the power gymnasts like biles, but the girl is phenomenal. no, she isn't the most graceful, balletic gymnast, but she has what matters and that is the difficulty and the execution!! I would never want to go back to the days where a BHSLO and DT are acceptable tumbling passes on FX in the Olympic games. it would be so boring!!
but I do agree with you as far as mustafina. here we are just months away from Rio and she can't put a floor routine together, she hasn't come close to her London bars and her beam it just an omelet...she switches it up every time she mounts it, she has barely a flight series and relies heavily on connections she just doesn't make!!
What trolls you two are. Mrsjojo, as always, you fail to understand the criticism that we give gymnasts nowadays. No one wants the days where a bhs loso was an acceptable tumbling back. A bhs loso was absolutely NOT what girls from the 80's and 90's were throwing, in fact there difficulty was far higher than most gymnasts nowadays and you're delusional if you think otherwise. Shushunova threw a laid out thomas salto, Voinea did a DLO punch front, Silivas whipped into and ended her routine with a full in. Omelianchick did triple full punch front. Back to back tumbling was common.
As for Mustafina, I really don't know what to say to you if you think she is "good not great" and "inconsistent" (rofl at that she's the 8th most successful gymnast ever). But sure just "good" and inconsistent. Keep telling yourself that Murican stan.
