    I have the Sony A6300 and I was torn between Sony 35mm 1.8 and Sigma 30 1.4. I went with the Sony 35mm 1.8 after watching this video. I do 70% videowork and 30% Photography. OSS is really a must for the lack of IBIS on my A6300. Thanks mate!

    I still love the Sony 35mm 1.8 OSS for general purpose, portrait and video. I find it is soft wide open 1.8-2.2F stop, but I have no problem with adjusting to 2.8 in darker situations. I have the Sigma 16mm 1.4 for landscape and concerts, Sony 35mm 1.8 OSS, and the Sony 70-350mm G OSS for sports and wildlife..That trio is all I ever need for as long as the A6100 holds up...With more precision and taking your time, I really can get close to Full Frame results with Sony’s excellent APS-C sensors

      It's right because this lens on a crop sensor camera would work out to be around 50mm equlivent FOV on a Full Frame sensor so it's what about the human eye would normally see.

    • @steven2809
      @steven2809 Před 5 lety +2

      Aperture This ‘fact’ about 50mm FOV being what we see is just wrong. Manufacturers sold a 50mm with cameras as a ‘compromise’ focal length. Not too wide, not too narrow. Try this. Sit in your lounge and look at the room. Now look through a 50mm FOV lens. You can’t get half the room in! It’s too narrow. 35mm FOV is MUCH closer to what we actually see....

The camera came with the mediocre 16-50mm but I have just purchased the 50mm OSS F1.8...I'm now wondering if the 35mm is a better choice- it is about 180 quid more expensive....so either I keep the 16-50 for lanscapes/wide and the 50mm for street + portraits or ditch them both and get the 35mm all rounder and then just have to carry around 1 lens...(the 16-50 is tiny tho so no probs carrying that and the 50 with me)... thoughts?

      Lower the F point the more background blur. It is also known as shooting "wide open" because the lower the F point, the more light enters the camera. Good for night shooting. F6 is darker, with more background sharpness than F1.8 with soft backgrounds but more light let in.

    I have this lens for my a6500 but I find I favour the Sony /Zeiss 24mm f1.8 instead. It is a much nicer lens but sadly no built in stabilization. Of, course, that is not a problem for the a6500 which has stabilization in the camera body.

    • @socratesvela8285

      Yes, that is true, but their is something about the rendering of the the 24 f1.8 that makes it a special lens. It is also fairly compact ( but a smidge bigger than the 35 f1.8).

    Sadly only usable at F2.8 or F4.0 (used it test wise on an A6400 for a few days - but I had to send it back). Lets be honest: Why should you go for an F1.8 lens which is only really goot at F4 - And not THAT super cheap too (the performance would match half of the asking-price WAY better ^^). Sure - It delivers great sharpness at higher aperture values (F4 and above). But that was not the purpose I bought it for ^^. Sadly its one of the few OSS / optical stabilised lenses for the new A6400 body from Sony (which is not coming with an body internal stabiliser). Come on Sony - Release some new APS-C lenses (especially a good 16-55 F2.8 or so is DESPERATELY needed - I like the 18-105mm F4 - But would LOVE to have an constant F2.8 aperture APS-C zoom lens) (!)

      @HappyHubris Před 4 lety +3

      @@IRFAN-po5sz I really like this lens for my purposes. It's a bit of a mess sometimes wide open (a lot of color fringing with up-close/backlit subjects at F1.8) but is otherwise a nicely sharp and stabilized lens. I like how compact it is in the hand (perfect with an A6400) and how the stabilization lets me take indoor and night shots that I otherwise could not pull off.
      Some personal examples:
      flic.kr/p/2hj196H
      flic.kr/p/2h2S5oY (this one is cropped about 50% and still looks good)
      flic.kr/p/2g9zgPK
      The Sigma 30 F1.4 is supposed to be sharper at the expense of weight and stabilization. If I used an A6600 I might be tempted to switch, but the humble 35mm is good enough in a very small package.

    @TheMetalButcher Před 5 lety +4

    A bit disappointing. Right focal length, fast, and has image stabilization. Buttt, stabilization looked pretty poor (I could barely tell you turned it on when normally it goes from a shaky mess to looking almost like it's on a tripod), horrible aberrations (book shot was especially bad), and that high price would lead me elsewhere. With that being said, your photos look real nice especially with the kitty.

Before it most of the manufacturers seemed to ignore the need of 50mm equivalent on APS-C, that's why such lenses ended up in low or decent quality only until Fujifilm and Sigma introduced somethings high-performance.

      People often speak that sony lenses overpriced. But if you see deeper... G-master line costs more than "equuvalents" in other systems. But almost every lens in this line outperform every "analog". Sony has cheap 35/1.8 for their old DSLR A-mount - SAL35F18. But technologies go forward and prises too. There is also differences in build quality and other. SEL35F18 light, compact, fullmetall, feels more solid and has image stabilisation. I found it very usefull as universal normal lens.

    • @azg2341
      @azg2341 Před 5 lety

      @Phil Jones65 I think main reason of prise differences is just different construction of dslr and mirrorless lenses. There is oss, focus motor, metallic body, optical schema and something else we don't know about. By the way, Fuji 35/2 crop lens has same "unforgivable" price. It weather resistant, but without image stabilisation.

The massive _overheating-gate, rolling sh*tter_ and the quick release of the a6500 in like the next day _Literally_ makes this the odd, forgotten middle child in Sony's Aps-c E-mount cameras.
