guys the funny thing about these moral dilemmas in hxh is that we end up forgetting that killua has more body counts than most of the enemies they find
With the difference that he had no choice when he was younger to say "no" to the family business. As the next strong character that will emerge, if he didn't obey orders, he would be killed. Character that Ging saved. Now with more maturity and voice, he can tell his father and grandfather that he no longer wants to kill for the sake of killing, or "work" with it.
@@JoaoPaulo-rn6bf life didn’t gave binolt that much of a choice either but when he’s first presented in the anime, we as e spectators don’t think twice about judging him, and that’s intentional, the anime itself subverts our expectations later. i think the own show tries to make this point by the end of greed island (spoiler) when they refuse to kill the bombers and killua says that it wouldn’t make sense since he killed more than they ever will. what i’m trying to say is that this show tricks you, we see characters like binolt and the bombers and be quick to judge then by the same mistakes characters we love committed, even wanting for them to be killed when they also present their own regrets and resentments (btw, i love killua and completely despise the bombers don’t get me wrong)
Yeah, people often forget that even Gon isn't exactly 100% a "good guy" as would be typical of shonen main character. Like, he has no problems at all with how often Killua kills/wants to kill people. He just had problems with Killua being forced to do it. If it's his own decision then Gon doesn't care.
@baldawen people often refer to how crazy gon is. With him I havnt seen people forget that
I'm sure Kurapika learned about Ko, Shu, Ken, etc., he learned Nen at the same time as Gon and Killua, but they were about 2 months without training with Wing because of Gon's injury.
Bare minimum, we see him using Ko against Uvo (and there's no way he was tanking those hits without Ken)

Kurapika used all Nen concepts in York Shin, all categories. Defend yourself with aura, otherwise he would never defend Uvogin's punches, gyo, Ko everything he had already mastered
While Gon and Killua still in Chimera Ant were trying to learn how to defend themselves with Nen, calculate the amount
For example, Gon and Killua in Greed Island, even with months of extra training, they would never defend 30% of a punch from Uvogin without getting hurt, especially because they in Chimera Ant still didn't know how to use it.
The conclusion is obvious, Togashi made it clear that Kurapika is a greater genius than them

An interesting bit of insight into what is sometimes called Gon's egoism. Gon doesn't care about Binolt being a murderer because he helped them make progress. He cared about the Troupe being murderers because they were in his way, though. What matters most to Gon with strangers seems to be how useful or how much of an obstacle in his way they are, not if they're a good person. Just remember that.
It was more that they cared about their friends but everyone else is fair game.

Gon just isn't a regular run of the mill good protag, he isn't some pinnacle of good which is great. He didn't bat an eye at killua removing aans heart where any other shonen it wouldn't have been the same.

Shu is not a new application. It's basically what Hisoka has been doing with the cards or what Wing did with the torn off page. Gon and Killua just haven't stopped to think what they have seen and learned until now.

Kurapika learned everything they did. If he didn't he couldn't have kicked Uvo around. My theory is that his Teacher's training methods are high risk high reward. The more you put in the more you get out of Izunabi's training. Being a Kurta may have sped up his progression too.
Genthru is a Conjuror but Little Flower is a Transmuter power.
In, Zetsu, Ko, Shu, already in the tower arc Kurapika had already mastered everything and was already one of the top 15 Nen Users in HxH, even because he went to York Shin before the tower arc ended, he already left the forest ready
Gon and Killua, still in Chimera Ant, tried to master defending themselves with Nen, among other concepts. For example, Uvogin, Gon and Killua's 30% punch would never be unscathed because they were still in chimera ant have not mastered this concept, Kurapika dominated so much that Uvogin was surprised
In short: weeks of training with a low level teacher Kurapika is such a genius that this alone he learned better than Gon + Killua in more than a year with several teachers
Only Bisky trained them in two Greed Island and Chimera Ant arcs and Bisky is one of the best Nen users in the world, Kurapika never had a teacher like that. Knucle taught them too for weeks

These episodes really introduce us to a lot of advanced techniques we've seen before. Most nen users use Shu or a Ren equivalent to Shu on their weapons (like Hisoka on his cards). Kurapika used "Ko" on Uvo after he captured him. And literally every decent nen user use Ken and then Ryu when fighting including Kurapika.
Those are the semi-advanced techniques that allowed Kurapika to be strong enough to face off the troupe (even if he required special conditions to get on that level so quickly) while Gon and Killua weren't able to stand up to them at all in most cases.
"Kurapika focused on the main things" Nah, it's the opposite. Kurapika trained to be an operational fighter in 6 months time. He focused on the basics less than Gon and Killua and was taught the advanced techniques faster. Wing focused on increasing potential so he made sure Gon and Killua knew the basics very well while Kurapika just wanted to be as strong as possible in 6 months which involved making sure he knew all the necessary techniques shown here.
The first key is Ken here. The ability to maintain your Ren at all times for an entire fight is what they need to train to actually stand a chance in a fight with any decent nen user. It won't be enough to win on its own but it's the minimum requirement to even survive the fight more than 2 minutes.
Ryu is second because it allows you to actually inflict damage and not just survive the fight, it's basically an optimisation of Ken. Once they master that one, they can even take on opponents with stronger nen if their Ryu control is better than the opponent's simply because they optimise their use of nen better.
The last step is their special ability. Funnily enough they did that one out of order but they kind of had no choice since the deadline for Greed Island was one week which wasn't enough time to really learn a strong Ken which took them a month here.
In the eng dub, when the scissors guy says "I just cut your hair!"...I was in tears laughing

You guys should see the 1999 version - at least the Phantom Troupe arc. Episode 45 covered Kurapika’s conjuration training in more depth.
But I also think Kurapika is just a genius as well. He was already using very advanced nen techniques like ko, in, and gyo against Uvogin. His hatsu is also so specific and varied it’d be hard to pull off for someone non-proficient in nen.

Bisky definitely had ill intent. Nen top tier nen users seem to enjoy messing with each other. I think Bisky changed her mind when she realized how untrained they were. Kind of like hisoka grooming gon for a good fight
Trying to memorize all the different names of nen techniques and applications is counter intuitive in my opinion. Just paying attention to what can be done through the use of nen is enough to become accustomed to the way it works and the different possibilities of offense and defense.

Gon and Killua aren't using Nen contracts so they're becoming true Nen masters while Kurapika sacrificed his potential to be OP against 11 people.

Gin being called one of the 5 greatest Nenusers makes sense at that time, but will change later down the (manga)line. There are just too many crazy people waiting in this show.

Oh boy, the closest metaphor i could think of for kurapika's mastery of nen is imagining a bodybuilder on steroids. Just because he took steroids doesn't mean he didn't work his ass off. And kurapika knew all these applications of nen which you could clearly see in his fight against uvo. The anime is only explaining what you've seen already until now. Finally, I'm gonna nerd out a bit and say that there are important dialogues that just went over their heads because they weren't paying attention that provides hints to Ging's character and motive. Just gonna leave it there.
Kurapike might've gotten a "cheat code" with the nen contract but its nothing that other characters haven't used. Not only that, He learned about Nen the same time Gon n Killua did but he had 2 months on them because of When Gon was injured and killua waited to train with him. And if u remember Kurapika also exhibited multiple times his proficiency in Nen when using Gyo, Zetsu, Ten,Ryu, Ren and In so you should assume he knws about Shu, Ko etc. He also mentioned how his master trained to become well accustomed with his abilities. So he's not missing out on anything, he simply is just stronger than them for now
Gon is actually Goku taken seriously. without the heroic glaze. what would a character only interested in getting stronger and improving and fighting the strongest actually be like?
Kurapika basically cheated and took a shortcut. He had a very specific goal, so sacrificed a lot of his potential to try and achieve it.
