So when there are 1-2-3 cars on the right lane driving right in front of you, and the left lane is EMPTY, and your exit is not the first exit, you just stay behind them? That's what newbies do.
I've discovered that the most convenient manner to use a roundabout is to accelerate into one at a reasonable pace and leave everything else in God's hands.
