      He was a psychotic murder machine hell bent on vengeance on KAL EL and the destruction of earth in order to facilitate the rebirth of Krypton. All of which was totally unnecessary. They (the Phantom Zone escapees) could use the World Engine technology on a barren planet to germinate a new Kryptonian colony and populate their new world the old fashioned way. He just wanted to kill. A Hell of a person to admire, right? Just because some one is honest about their evil intent does not make them admirable and worthy of respect. If a crazed drug fiend breaks into your house in the dark of night shouting his intent to murder you and your entire family, will you have such respect and admiration for them simply because they are honestly stating their goals? I think not. HIS VERY EXISTANCE IS THE LIE. ALL MUST BE AS HE WILLS. SUCH UTTER CONTEMPTABLE BULLSHIT. HE WAS A MORON.

      i think u are taking it to serious in the wrong way. The guy didn't lie and i respect him for that. At least you knew his intentions and he was letting u know off hand he planned on killing humans and didn't do it in a sneaky way. By being honest he allowed kael el to defend earth and save the human race. If all evil men acted like ZOD we could stop almost all murders and crime. Being honest is something to be respectful of wether its good or not u fuckin idiot lol. Ya zod is evil but i can still respect him for telling you straight up Yo im a evil bitch ima fuck you all up. Well dam thanks for telling me now i can stop you.

      @@Killercoldice22 Anyone who respects an evil one simply because they are honest about being evil is a damn fool. That honesty alone does not change the fact that they are evil. Granted, forewarned is forearmed! There is no denying that scenario gives a tactical "heads up" advantage to the non evil doer, but it also can be used as a distraction from the main attack. Take and use any advantage that a self proclaimed evil doer provides to you in their hubris but do not be fooled by their "honesty" into thinking that they will not deceive you along another front.

      @Messages In a bottle You start small and work smart. They had the technology. Zod was lazy. He wanted it all "right now". Find a suitable world for planetary engineering. Build underground structures/complexes with greenhouse farms. They had already survived for some thirty years. Do you really think that they did not have some viable crop seeds salvaged from the past Kryptonian expeditions? Do you think that they had naught to eat but their own Kryptonian versions of MREs? Look up the term meal habituation and rejection. If/when, hopefully the later, humanity actually does "terraform" the planets Mars and Venus it will be a slow generations long process not "right now". They could have engaged in trade with earth for "biomass". I stand by my statement that Zod and his followers just wanted to kill. Biomass could be algae and trash. Do you think any government on earth would not have made that trade? I fully realize that it is just a comic book movie. I enjoyed it. I DO NOT ENJOY THE FACT THAT FOOLS LIONIZE THE CHARACTER OF A SELF PROFESSED PSYCHOTIC GENOCIDIAL MASS MURDERER SIMPLY BECAUSE HE IS HONEST ABOUT WHAT HE IS!

      @Messages In a bottle You say that you are not defending ZOD, and then proceed to defend him. Oh, boo, hoo! He was raised that way. Poor, pitiful ZOD. He just can not help himself. He was raised that way. He is genetically predisposed to violence. It is the society's fault. Pathetic circular "logic" highly indicative of the "progressive mindset" disease. I stand by my statement, undeterred. He was a moron. He was lazy. He was evil. His " honesty" was simply his real contempt and disdain for any who dare have a contrarian opinion to his views. Sound familiar?

    Also, it shows he’s willing to be happy to see someone of his own kin. He comforts his soldiers in times of sadness as a rock to drive them to strive forward. He’s emotionally honest as well, it shows he’s a cruel man, but a man none the less who cares till it hurts or kills.

      It's also very telling of Kryptonians. They have absolutely no purpose, other than to live for their people's glory. The only exceptions are the higher-ups who command--they need free will to think (But even then, Zod still has no other purpose other than to live for Krypton's people)
      It's very Brave New World-esque, but at the same time, it's also parallel to the anti-life equation.
      I have a theory that maybe the Kryptonians embedded a portion of the Anti-Life into the Codex (which is the DNA of all Kryptonians, for a refresher.) Maybe that's why Superman is an important part to Darkseid--he knows there is anti-life in him.
      Another theory I have is that the Kryptonians knew that Anti-Life was in Earth before Uxas invaded Earth. Maybe Jor-El knew Earth was important--it needed to be protected from evil.

      If his goal was truly to create a new Krypton he could have done it elsewhere...I always got the feeling this was more personal. He wanted to hurt Kal because he couldn't hurt Jor'El for messing up shit on Krytpon. He felt betrayed by Jor'El who was his friend, and this broke him. Hence why he takes some seriously illogical steps in this movie like attacking a well armed world and trying to terraform it instead of just starting over elsewhere. Yes earth could have hurt them pretty hard and maybe even fought them off. Nukes can hurt them, BVS proves this, and just a well placed missile could take down the ship that has the clone factory...and then their whole "restart our civilization" plan is done. Also getting the guy that literally has the code for your future written into his body on your side just better tactics than alienating him by trying to destroy his world. If Zod had just gone to Mars, pushed some asteroids made of ice into the planet for water and then terraformed, his whole species would have been back, no risk no fuss. Then he could have gotten his revenge afterwards, or done whatever...but instead he took dumb risks with his last few people and resources...he was just insane.

    "The foundation has to be built on something."
    It's amazing to me how many people miss this line when they repeat "oh why didn't Zod use Mars" BS ad nauseam. To properly terraform and to ensure the colony would survive on it's own, Zod needed a planet that could already support life. Mars and Venus and billions of other planets are unable to do so in their current forms. If he tried those planets, without Krypton for additional support the colony would wither and die like the others.
    And even if they did use another planet they would still need the Genesis Chamber and Codex to reproduce because they were all sterile as per Krypton's custom. Plus Zod didn't just want Krypton back as it was, he wanted only the best bloodlines as Jor-El said, which requires access to the Codex and the Genesis Chamber.
    Both the Genesis Chamber and Codex were on Earth, which was a planet that could support life on its own.
    Why go anywhere else when all they needed to succeed was in one place?

    • @juanprc10
      @juanprc10 Před 3 lety +81

      Perfectly explained. I’ve always thought the same as you, and been telling people who bring up the Mars argument that Zod needed the codex and genesis chamber first. It made perfect sense for him to start terraforming earth (a planet already suited to sustain life) while attempting to get the codex at the same time.

    • @Nemenis
      @Nemenis Před 2 lety +13

      Well Genesis chambers are every where especially planets with life. Kryptonians sent scout ships to check on planets with life which explains why they are so intelligent. Zod can just easily find another scout ship on Mars when it used have life (Martian ma hunters ancestors lived there)

    • @Hei_Darkfire
      @Hei_Darkfire Před 2 lety +16

      No. Zod just wanted revenge against Jor El and his kin. He wanted to undermine Jor El's plan and hope for the future. There was no other reason for him to destroy earth. Zod says that the foundation has to be built on something, but Venus actually has a similar atmosphere to earth's, except that their air is almost all carbon dioxide. Mars doesn't have an atmosphere, but a machine that can terraform could fix that. Planets like Mars and Venus not being able to support life was why they had the world engine so they could change the planet to suit their needs just like they were going to do to earth. They were changing earth on a global scale, and Zod could have easily done that to Mars or Venus just as easily. Not only that, but there are a LARGE estimation of planets that can support life in just our side of the universe. Zod could have easily gone to another star system and built on a better planet rather than trying to destroy earth even IF earth was the only planet they could "change" with the world engine. He only came to our solar system because of Clark activating the ship, otherwise Earth would have been of no interest to him.
      Not only that, but he went after Clark specifically as a means to undermine Jor El. If Zod's only goal was restoring Krypton, he would have just asked Clark politely for the codex, and explained that he survived just as Clark did. There was no need for the underhanded tricks Zod played like tricking Clark onto his ship or threatening to destroy earth. If he'd gone to Clark and asked for it so he could build on another planet, Clark would have probably trusted him enough to help him rebuild on another planet. And Zod could have probably gotten Clark on his side if he'd played his cards right and not been a jerk. Zod could have gotten the Codex without threatening to destroy earth, but he chose to straight up not come in peace and threatened to destroy the world if Clark didn't surrender to him. He could have come in peace and said "Hey guys... Looking for the codex so I can rebuild my race on another world. Please help." Zod and his group were in a very desperate state, looking for anything they could use to rebuild a new society, and finding earth was a way they could have gotten new supplies and resources they could take with them if they were smart at negotiating. But as desperate as they supposedly were, Zod didn't come in asking for help, but demanding everything go his way. Most people in desperation wouldn't approach the situation like Zod did.
      The simple fact is that while Zod said what he did was "for Krypton", it wasn't. Zod wanted revenge for what was done to him, and that was the only reason he did not come in peace. Otherwise he would have gone about his plan completely differently.

      Honestly if DC gets a proper handle on things, like a genuine overall upheaval, then it can 100% compete with marvel films and even surpass the best of them. DC animated has always had dark undertones, heroes ups and downs, but also had the proper comedic light heartedness to keep everything balanced. Here's to hoping the cinematic universe actually catches up in quality (though man of steel was awesome).

      The dialogue is pretty lame. Zod is so obviously wrong, even space monkeys can see it. He could just terraform mars or venus. He's got the technology right there. If Zod at least lied that he's not going to destroy the human race and presented the Mars/Venus colony plan as a ruse, Kal would probably help them.
      The worse part of the movie is that Zod is inconsistent. Zod and his followers are insanely stupid, yet they somehow escaped the phantom zone by themselves... Note that the phantom zone was made by Zor El, one of the smartest guys on the planet. Zor had the foresight to send an AI of himself to earth but didn't realize that his prison can go offline once the planet blew up.
      Zod isn't even menancing. He lost basically every encounter with superman on earth. He has no dynamic motion, so he doesn't even have a loud bark. You can say he has passion, but he is so incompetent he lost to an untrained farm boy.

I have a feeling Zod knew what was going to happen when Ka-el stepped onto the ship so he could talk to Ka-el on that Shadow Plane in his dreams. Also, Zod knew that Ka-el would be okay once he adapted whereas Louise (and humans in general) might not be able to adapt to the Krytonian atmosphere at all. Did you notice how quickly Zod explained to Louise how Ka-el had to adapt when he first got sick? Zod knew because he is a military mastermind and genius in his own right. Everyone is asking, why didnt Zod just go to other planets, and terraform it. Well, to make habitable planets, you need more than rocky surface itself. You need strong magnetic field, to protect you from star radiation; you need an atmosphere, at just the right temperature and pressure; you need gasses and organic materials which essentials to life as we know it; and obviously, you need water. Its clearly shown that the world engine is capable of just altering earth's gravity, by altering its mass or something. It maybe can alter atmospheric pressure at best, but clearly not to make all that ingredients essentials for life. Earth clearly has all that ingredients, and Zod would not want to wait or search other planets.
