I love your videos! So informative! And not boring ! Easy to follow for me
I would expect that paper towel to be a vector for contamination
I love it when I get to say vector
Is the paper towel you wipe the inside of the bag with wetted with isopropyl alcohol? Doesn't this step possibly introduce contamination?
yes, but hes sitting in front of a flow hood wich make things much safer, i wouldnt do that in a SAB, i preffer clearing and cleaning my bags before the PC cycle and they come out very clean but a bit wet, so i let them dry a bit before sealing.
If you only have a still air box, do you let the bags cool, then open them to introduce air and break up before sealing? Obviously the flowhood is best . Thanks
I dont know why the flow hood vs still air box would change anything about him putting a paper towel inside the bag. The paper towel isnt sterile, flowhood or not. I dont think this is safe to do with or without a flow hood. But if it works then it works i guess.
Do NOT wipe inside of sterile bag 🤦♂️
@@johnathonuncapher7523if you open the bag inside SAB,your bag will draw not as clean air as it is infront flow hood...thats the difference guy was making out😮
Can you share what size those bags are and the size of the PC in the video?
I do not understand how you introduce a paper towel in the bag and not contaminate it, paper towels are not sterile
Great videos dude, you really know your stuff. I am learning as i go and coming across a bunch of reasons to watch your channel. I.E. making mistskes and then learning how to not make them again, from you - so thanks heaps 😊😉🦋👍🏼
without flow hood,I think best way is to use zip ties....that way you zip the bags as soon as they get out of PC....
FOAF bought impulse sealer and after 4 bags using it,and sealing every bag like 5 times before semi good seal and still not trusting it.....he went right back to zip ties....
he had no contaminations with zip ties....
Your videos are very well explained, thanks u.
Regards from Chile!
hello.
I like the clarity in your concepts.
I want to know your pasteurization process. Times, temperatures, number and size of sawdust blocks, etc.
Love your channel!
Does it matter that the paper towel that wiped out the bag wasn't sterilized?
ok i get it but my question is can i make it without flow hood cause im ,,hobbyst,, ?
Funny, you got me going down the millet road-which got me to buy bags and a sealer. I do my thing...fail to seal my bags. Here I am again
This guy can't even count 7. Cleans table, then puts elbows on table. All in all I appreciate the video.
Straight out of a PC....it is OK. He is a Drama queen.
there's no better option than using a paper for drying this??? this paper is sterilized? ... i don't like that... it seems... a big vector for contams, even if you are using a laminar flowhood.
And why you don't put the injection port before sterilizing? you can avoid the drying with paper if you fold more times at the end of the bag before sterilizing?
You are my favorite info on here, too fuckin cool
Thank you
Man, you are awesome 👌👏👏👏👏👏
puts the cleaned bags on the spot where the dirty PC was without cleaning the table first.....
why you may ask, because he uses an "over abundance of caution"
Blessings to all!!
Haha gattaca! Great movie
You sir are a riot, love it 👌🏻
I got no Floowhood nor any impulse sealer... SAB and paperclips for me instead : D
Paper towels don’t come sterile brand new. Just goes to show mycelium is very strong.
paper towels are made in a way, that the water, wood pulp mixture is heat pressed together so all water evaporates and leaves only wood pulp ea paper towel behind....
that proces will make sterile or at least pasterised towel wich in a dry and clean inviroment will be very clean....
its not 100%, but nither is laminar flow hood...
@@Lipi19821 you think the rest of the factory where it's bagged and profess in sterile? I would imagine it to be super dusty. Use a microscope on papertowels.
It's the filter folded in on the inside or outside
Don't you risk contamination by wiping the bag with the paper towels? They aren't sterile, right?
They are if you keep them out of nasty areas, and they're dry / in sterile flow. Most industrial products come out of the packaging sterile, so we use a lot of paper towels and duct tape
@@PracticalMyco kinda gives me the heebie-jeebies, but I'll trust your advice. I'm about to give your no soak no boil no rinse tek with sohrgum after having lots of problems with burst bags and bacterial contamination. Quick question, how much did that large flow hood cost to make? I've got a 2'x2' LFH and while it works I really wish I went bigger from the get go.
Edit: also, thanks for the reply, your channel has been a boon to my burgeoning mycology operation.
How do you apply an injection port?
Easiest way is to just poke the needle through the bag to noc up grains, then cover the hole with micropore tape. If you want to get fancy you can prep bags with RTV gasket maker for self-healing injection ports.
What size bag is he using here?
So you take a clean paper towel and wipe the inside of the bag, you didn't spray the paper towel with iso so how do you know its clean and you aren't wiping spores on the inside? I don't understand this? I leave my paper towels in my bedroom with all my kit but surely spores are dropping in them all the time?
I had to rewind this thing like 5 times to figure out how you suddenly had 7 bags 🤣
So do you sell grainbags/substrate ? If so how to contact ? Thanks
If you have a flowhood is a separate sealed "lab" room needed for inoculation?
This guy is the type that still wears a mask in public 😂😂😂
Do you think it'd be ok to PC the millet bags, and then seal them as they are, and then do the break and shake when I'm ready to inoculate? Or do you think I absolutely need to break and shake them, before doing the first sealing?
Is there a video where he innoculates a spawn bag im having trouble finding one
4t right
Get a bondo spreader and squeege the top of the bag
nice dude
You apply an injection port after sterilisation? :/
I've had plenty of sucess just pressing all the air out then sealing and putting a layer of micropore on the top because my sealer is old and heats unevenly :)
The bags are sterilized, when you wipe them down you can sanitize them, but even sanitized is not the same as sterile which you want.
I use my wife's hair straighteners. If you don't have a wife it's probably cheaper to buy a new heat sealer
Can you use the bags again or are they single use??
Nice Gattaca reference lol
what size are your bags
4t right?
First video of yours I’ve come across (googled how to impact seal unicorn). Can already tell I’ll learn a lot from the rest. Very informative sir thank you
When your customers get their orders do they need to open the bag again to add in air before injecting? What is the shelf life after you break and shake? Thanks so much :)
Whatever you do, do not open the bag until all the grain is inoculated
Ahh I love that shit. Great info
So unicorn bags need no air while mycelium is growing?
Question, when you clean the top of the bag with paper, don't you take a huge risk to get contamination? (from the paper)
yeah i give my paper towel a nice ISO layer first because it will dry quickly inside the bag
He has iso on it bro?
What bags are those
Why can't you seal before you pressure cook
love the realness brother and advice!
is a home foodgrade 130W vacuum sealer good enough for the unicorn bags?
Did you find out if it is? I have the same question.
Can you skip the cleaning step before sealing if it's clean out of the sterilizer in the seal area?
yes, obviously... and i think that drying the inside of the bag is bad...
Online the unicorn bags look different than the material the bag my grow kit came in was is. Also if I have multiple 5 lb bags of substrate that’s sterilized, can I split it up into different bags to make 3lb blocks ?
What sizexbags is he using here?
I can tell you have a bunch of experience and understanding of the process. You've been very helpful in teaching me the techniques but I feel a massive amount of altitude, almost like a superiority complex. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy the video. Thanks for the knowledge you've imparted but I'll be looking for videos that don't treat the views as if they are the enemy. Who knows maybe the windmills are actually giants 🤪 but then again maybe they are just in fact windmills
could you provide a link/source for your sealer?
Probably ULine
I don't understand why you're wiping down sterile bags with IPA. Everything in that pressure canner is sterile and if you open it in front of your laminar flow you should be good to go. IPA is not a sterilant- we used to store spores in alcohol.
Those preto pressure canners allow some air to enter as you are de pressurizing and cooling down. That allows air to enter and if not done in totally sterile air can allow some contaminants to enter. Although it's a small chance it's still a chance and therefore better to be safe than sorry
so unnecessary to potentially contaminate by wiping the inside down....
When you look into the camera I feel like you're angry at me/ you're about to stab me.
Impact sealer?
Impulse sealer.
If you don’t have a flow hood, can you take the bags after they cool into a still air box that has been sterilized to open the bags up (to add some oxygen back to the grains) before sealing them off with a impulse sealer. Thanks for your videos
slightly neuritic
Dude seems pretty pissed off, not sure at who or what
Have the slight desire to slap him for whatever reason.
Why is he using bags the size of quart jars instead of quart jars..... that are reusable!!!!! This dude makes no sense
They are 3lb bags, that's at least 3 quart jars.
Too much work. Put one less bag in the pressure cooker to allow for more air in each. Have them all pre-sealed while dry. You'd save an hour of work.
Word
Can they be sealed before they're pressure cooked or will they go pop. If not. How are they sealed after sterilisation
Wow man you just sterilized all them bags that you're now dirtying up I had enough of this
Literally couldnt stand the condescending presentation.
it gets way worse than this LOL
I appreciated all the info and explanations as to why. ...but I'm not that sensitive. ✌️😚
Nice video but your tone you use sometimes sounds like you’re talking to someone who you think is an idiot

I cannot even take this serious wearing a mask and trying to hear this. Who are you protecting
He thinks he is so smart. Just give the steps bro.
Lmao why be so mean I do love watching your videos but they say us Colorado natives are ass whole I see it now
