- Later this year, NASA's Space Launch System rocket is going to be rolled to Launch Complex 39B for the Artemis 1 mission to send an uncrewed Orion spacecraft on a trip around the Moon.
Watch this video for a detailed look at the Artemis 1 mission: • Artemis 1 mission over...
For a recap of the two scrubbed launch attempts for Artemis 1, click here: • The road to the next A...
NOTE: The Aug. 29 and Sept. 3, 2022, launch attempts were scrubbed. Further, Hurricane Ian prompted NASA to roll the rocket back to the Vehicle Assembly Building. The next launch attempt is likely no earlier than mid-to-late November.
While the job of the Space Launch System will last for less than 10 minutes, the rest of the mission will see Orion sent into a distant retrograde orbit around the Moon where it will stay there for several weeks before returning to Earth.
SLS stands 98 meters tall and is expected to have a liftoff thrust of 8.8 million pounds. It has two five-segment solid rocket boosters that provide the bulk of that thrust for about two minutes. After that, the core stage and its four RS-25 engines will continue firing to about 8.5 minutes after liftoff.
From there, the Interim Cryogenic Propulsion Stage, or ICPS, and Orion will separate. The ICPS will place Orion on a lunar insertion trajectory. You can find out more information about the mission's trajectory here: www.nasa.gov/image-feature/ar...

A HUMAN SPACEFLIGHT ODYSSEY
Orbital Velocity aims to offer casual observers and devoted space enthusiasts alike the best media chronicling humanity’s journey toward becoming a multiplanetary species by providing informative, digestible and accurate content.
The story of human expansion into low-Earth orbit and beyond is happening right before our eyes. Starting with the International Space Station, the mission of Orbital Velocity is to act as a “living time capsule” chronicling these ambitions to live and work off the planet. - Věda a technologie
i was 16 yrs old at the time of the first moon landing, those guys were my heros, its been a long time since.hope to see it again
I was 19 when Apollo 17 mission took place. Now after half a century, I share your excitement about Artemis 1, hope it will be a resounding success!
Are you guys still fascinated with the lie? Incredible in 2022. The video shows what they will do, just go around and not descend. That is wasting money, time, and stupid. All that money for nothing. Nasa is a sucker, money pig, can you see it?
I was just the age of 10 but it was exciting for me.
I was born in 84 so it’s all been myth and legend to me, yet it’s the accomplishment I’m most proud of as an American. So happy that I’ll be able to see it in person.
I made my Earth landing the Earth year humans 1st landed on their only moon.
Waiting for this mission for years, I'm so excited it's finally gonna happen
Same! It may have taken way too long, but I'm still just as excited as I was back in the day. It's been a long road from Constellation to Artemis.
@@OrbitalVelocity .still believing in Humanoids? Why Elon Musk has done so many in so short of time and Nasa is just in the middle? Nasa is the Government, and is a money sucker from taxpayers. When you people will understand?
Are you Waiting 😂😂😂
we are all of the World waiting
@@OrbitalVelocity been a long way since Apollo for me.
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for making this video.
beautiful video masterpiece... our prayers go with the team... thank you for this.
Great work on this video so beautiful
Cool graphics.. I saw the launch of Artemis 1 yesterday and it was awesome!.. thanks from NZ 👍🚀🇳🇿
This video was a delight
Nice animation, good work. Apprecoates
So cool almost looks like the real thing I’m so excited for this launch
Can't wait for the photos.
Beautiful... We need this...hope.
It's so real make me thought it was launched! I can't wait for the next Monday night!
Excellent animation, one of those I watch repeatedly, who's hyped for the real thing tomorrow?
I like this !
ME
Cleared my calendar!
this video brought tears to my eyes. Can't wait to see her go but it is bittersweet to say good bye and farewell Artemis 1.
According to your animation, and the orientation of the booster top separation motors, and the upward separation of the boosters, there will be a roll program just like in the shuttle era.
AWESOME!
I'm now retired age 66 but I remember as a Boy Scout as a member of a troop from Atlanta going to Florida to attend the launch of Apollo 13 , so you can imagine what's going on in my head as Artemis gets ready to lift off. We may be late but we are still going.!!.
Holy shit this is getting me hyped. Great animation!
Thanks!
Yes great animation!
Good luck with this one!
Well done
That gave me some serious goosebumps!!! 😍 😍 😍
This video makes me weirdly emotional.
Absolutely amazing 🤩
Correct. That's what they did, too, with Apollo. Animation.
Co2 take a ticket, this is what i've been waiting 50 years for
This is the most brilliant, concise and fascinating 5 min overview of the most challenging feat of engineering we mankind have ever attempted. Thank you! 🌕🌖🌗🌘🌑🌒🌓🌔🌙
Amazing!
beautiful and wonderous
'
2021 was supposed to be the year of NASAs 'Journey to Mars '. Oh well. At least we're going beyond LEO again to thud moon. Alice.
Artemis I , formerly EM1 is the test.
nice review thx !
Thanks!
And now it's not just animation :)
Godspeed
@2:13 Will Orion really make a hard right turn to go to the moon? Your animations are wonderful. Thanks!!
That's a NASA-created animation. My guess it it's intended to show how gravity will bend the orbit toward the Moon. You can see a detailed orbital Map here: www.nasa.gov/image-feature/artemis-i-map
@@OrbitalVelocity Thanks!
No absolutely not that would require an enormous amount of delta V. As a KSP player that bothered me when I saw it. It's a weird way to illustrate gravitational influence imo
magnificent
It's going to be amazing when it finally launches. Just a little bit longer! :D
@@OrbitalVelocity absolutely ❤️👌
Are your insertion orbits depicted properly? I understood Artemis was doing retrograde orbits around the moon.
Where will you be when this giant rocket launches the Artemis 1 mission? 🚀

I hope they have some 8k or better video cameras, I have waiting since Dec 1972 to see this again....
How many of you guys are excited and terrified of this launch? Personally, I am excited that it will finally be able to launch and terrified of the possibility of it blowing up.
My fear is that Putin's agents possibly may sabotage the mission, I don't trust the SOB.
Nothing of this is true.
"We must SOLVED theses challenges before we SEND PEOPLE through this region of space !"
This is unmanned right? Do the boosters land back on earth like Alon’s do? What makes this program better than the private ventures?
They are going to try (not 100% certain) for September 23rd at 6:47am EDT and September 27th at 11:37am EDT.
I am rooting for Artemis 1. First, because it's our money NASA is spending. Second, because we do need to have human presence on the moon and beyond. God Speed to Project Artemis!
If SpaceX had the 35 billion this rocket cost we would have astronauts on moon and a station on surface a few years ago
SpaceX probably would've done better things with the money, but this is still great
I am excited for a return to out-of-orbit space travel, but this really looks to me (emphasis on "LOOKS to ME" like an over-complicated version of the Apollo mission--I thought our technology would make this simpler.
Nica animation.
Allthough it feels that something on this path 2:15 it´s not quite right. I don´t think the transfer to the moon may happen exactly like that as earth has much more pulling force from gravity than the moon.
Just wondering what is that box shapped thing released at 2:34?
cubesat
It’s cool we’re going back but disappointing we aren’t going down to surface
I was 18 when the first landing happened in 1969 I never imagined I would be 70 when we returned. I thought by this time we would be on Mars
:(
I agree David. It has taken way too long.
Had they listened to Uncle Wehrner we would have been there by now
Me too, born 1951. We're old 😯😕
This mission is in my bday august 29 I’m so exited
Happy birthday!
wow
Looks great. Good luck (sincerely) avoiding all that trash in earth orbit.
this music at launch (at 0:55) is really good for the real launch. can you send me the song pls???
no pre-flight for Apollo missions
Wow guys the animation is fabulous and one would obviously prefer this than the actual mission which we could not see in this video well done but I’m just an ignorant kiwi fan
In lunar orbit, everyone goes like the Pet Shop Boys. Everyone goes West.
What happened with sepreted parts
This rocket is is a redo of the space shuttle. The main engines, the solid rocket boosters, the first stage looks exactly like the shuttle external tank . All this money and years delay were not fools
It's Saturday September 3 2022 13:20 EST and I still think luanch #2 will be cancelled again .
How will aliens on the moon react to us coming back
What time is the launch?
good l like it
Falcon 9 boosters or shuttle?
That looks very complicated
Best wishes to NASA .
Thanks for clener clody❤💕💕❤❤
Imagine without the music.....
Coming August 23rd.
Adding more debris into space.
this aged well
Let's go up to do business 👍👌
Log life for all world-wide humanitarian
Thunderbirds was better considering its release back in the 60s . Nice cartoons however.
going to go around the moon but not landing there?
Whats the point if your not landing?
It's an uncrewed shakedown test of all the systems of Orion and SLS before people fly on Artemis 2 in 2024.
Why?
Does anyone know how big Musk's boring! Machine is .
The moon would be good place to use it to bore underground base .
Can it run in zero gravity?
Cuestión it's just to go around the moon and that it?
Yes. Its purpose is to test many of the systems without putting lives at risk.
Oooo ok
I made my Earth landing the Earth year humans 1st landed on their only moon.
They left out the part where the politicians, lobbyists, and aerospace executives are rolling around in taxpayer money while laughing maniacally.
Watching that, I am no wiser about how Artemis will work, what it will do, etc. etc.? Reading under "more" helped so I might suggest adding some text to the video (or a voiceover).
Look like our earlier generations were more intelligent and bravery than nowadays. half of century since the “first man in the moon” and still not know if it will be a safe trip to bring men back to the moon ?
How do you land on something made of plazma?
Hope NASA won't fake this time
wdym?
@@aapple3595 he thinks the moon landings in the 70s were fake. Just ignore
@@jacksonvaldez5911 Oh he is one of those people who failed high school science alright.
🤪🤪🤪🤪
Why the b s on the moon orbit depiction? Other than that…go NASA!

It is exciting indeed but in our nations current state $35 Billion dollars could have been put to better use.
El hombre juega a ser Dios , el hombre desafía las leyes de Dios
What is new compare to Apollo 10 some 54 years ago...?? Where is the moon lander ?
it'll breakup on ascent but the mannequins will be found to have turned on the emergency switches or buttons
The rocket is put on holding for the past 72 + hours now and still going.. 🤔 Mmm one of the astronaut dummies wants to go to the bathroom. 🤔Mmm needs permission to Releave... 🤣😁
Le départ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Combien de valve !!!!
Okkk not moonlanding just go & view the moon closely & come back 🤦🤦
climate concerns!? Not at all!
NASA : Take the MONKEY to the Moon !😆🇺🇸🌐🔬
This thing has been a tech nightmare, a failure and a taxpayer's nightmare. Launch it anyway, it will blow up.
So if successful, this will be the first time they actually go to the moon.
Why make all these different modules that require a multitude of actions to accomplish? Elon could just fly there and land. Why can’t NASA? Oh wait, it’s tax payer dollars to squander!!
Ever heard of progression and testing? i dont get why people hate NASA. Plus study orbital mechanics please. You'll get it.
It will not fly to any Moon.
Disappointing. There is nothing new here compared to Apollo, it is all warmed over.
Foofarol.
It will explode.
